So, I finally landed my first paying publishing contract a couple weeks ago! :bouncy: :bouncy: :bouncy:

(Sorry I took so long to say anything. My mind completely blanked about this site still being here.)

The Sword Review will publish "From the Ashes" in one of their upcoming issues. Not sure which month yet. It'll probably be sometime later in the summer though. They had through May booked in March. But, I've already gotten the check! I'm so excited.

Thanks so much to you wonderful people who helped me improve my writing skills. I couldn't have made it this far without you.

Congratulations Annadel, I just went to The Sword Review site and checked it out.

I will definately be looking for your piece to show up.

I don't think they would accept any of my work though (I tend to be too graphic in battle scenes as well as love scenes not to mention I usually put alot of pagan stuff in my writing)

CONGRATULATIONS

Thank you all.

"From the Ashes" is a retelling of the Legend of Deirdre of the Sorrows. I tried to do the same thing with the little known legend that The Thirteenth Warrior did with Beowulf: i.e. take the story back to a probable, more believable origin for the story. King Conchobar MacNessa of Ulster, Queen Maive of Chonnach, and the druid Cathbad are all historically documented people. Conchobar, aside from being an anti-type and inspiration for King Author, was a contemporary of Christ. So, the story is set toward the end of his reign in early first century Ulster, and focuses on a young Alban (Welsh) girl who is brought to Conchobar's court as Cathbad's aprentice.

The characters, due to the setting, are purely druidic. Christianity didn't exsist in the area at the time. However, Deirdre's personal morality is very Christian-like, so the story does still fit with The Sword Review's profile.

FIRST CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!

Second:
I am looking for a publisher. Any Ideas. Any help. I am working on my stories still. From way back when. for those that may remember. I don't even know if those threads are still around.

I am so happy for you. I hope to see more soon.

For genre fiction, your first port of call should be http://www.ralan.com.

Talstar,

Thank you for the congradulations.

Secondly, a currenty copy of "The Writer's and Illustrators Market for ..." (borrowed from your local library), the Preditors and Editors website, Writers.net, and AgentQuerry.com are all good resources for beginning writers. Just one word of warning. Never, ever, EVER take any of the advertisements on WritersNet or AgentQuerry seriously. They survive by letting thier server place "related" ads on their sites, and the server, not knowing any better, only has ads from scams, vanity presses, and PODs to post on the sites. They go to great lengths to make themselves look legit, but traditional publishing houses and magazines don't really need to advertise.

Good Luck.

"From the Ashes" went up yesterday. The Sword Review has rolling content, so the stories change almost daily at the beginning of the month. Ashes is the first up this month, so it'll be the first to go next month. It's a neat idea, I think.

Oh, and the helpful articles about writing change two or three times a week.

Check them out at www.theswordreview.com.

It's a lovely story. Congratulations!

[Although it's a bit of a pity that no-one picked up on "baited breath" and "you're duty" on page 28 of the pdf file...]

 Ack!!! I can't believe I missed those! Okay, note to self. Never self-edit while 8 months preggers or on doctor's orders to avoid any and all caffinne for any reason.

Thank you both for the comments.

(I just love my new last name. It just sounds more like a writer, and not to mention much less common, than my maiden name of Roper. There's already three or four writers with the combo of my first name and maiden name.)

Congarulations, even if it is a bit late. I looked at that site, nice, but I don't think they would take my stories.
