Found this listed under strange news. Definately strange and it seems they want to sell the X-Ray on eBay to support the rescue center. It'll probably do quite well.

Duck X-Ray Reveals 'Alien Head' (http://www.comcast.net/news/strange/index.jsp?cat=STRANGE&fn=/2006/06/01/404911.html&cvqh=itn_duckxray)
By Associated Press

CORDELIA, Calif. - The International Bird Rescue Research Center in Cordelia plans to raise funds with an unusual duck X-ray. The bird came in with a broken wing, but when Marie Travers, assistant manager of the center, radiographed the duck, she was stunned to see a very clear image of what appeared to be the face, or head, of an extraterrestrial alien in the bird's stomach.

"Marie looked at it and all she could say was 'unbelievable,'" said Karen Benzel, public affairs director for the rescue center, which has been rescuing sick and injured birds for more than three decades.

Unfortunately, the duck died quickly and quietly of its injuries.

Initial reports from the center claimed the cause of the alien face was never determined, but Benzel said she was still awaiting results of a necropsy.

Either way, the center has come up with a way to turn its alien encounter into a fundraiser for the center. It will auction off the X-ray on eBay.

The one-of-a-kind image, which measures 17-by-14 inches, will be sold along with a certificate of authenticity. All proceeds will go toward funding the center's rehabilitation programs.

The auction begins Sunday.

So my question is, as soon as the duck died, why didn't they cut it open to find out just what the h*ll that thing is? Creepy! but it's probably was just a mass of plastic pop can rings that the bird ingested. G*d knows there's tons of that crap floating around and birds and other animals encounter it all the time!

Tygress, quick :ot: here, but I love that pic of Toboe you have as your avatar :D

Serrin, it says they are awaiting necropsy results. If they are as busy as some of the UK bird rescue centers it could have taken a while to get round to it. The office that I worked at till it closed down had upwards of 200 birds a day on a busy day, 120-150 on normal days. When you figger that a good third of these birds die due to injury or shock or illness... that's a lot of birds you gotta check. Specially now with this bird flu crap.
Still, it'll probably turn out to be plastic caps as you say, unless of course aliens DO exist and get eaten by ducks all the time!

Wow, the Greys are trying to take over the birds so that we can have "THE BIRDS"!

Definitely interesting and weird. Another vote for it being pop can rings.

I can understand being too busy to do an autopsy on it right away...but..OMG! If that really is an alien, do we really have the time to wait?? I mean, holy crap! The damn things could reproduce in the morgue and we could be up to our eyeballs in alien-duck mutants before you could whistle dixie!

Thanks :) I got the boxed set of Wolf's Rain for my birthday and just finished watching it... and Toboe's always been my favorite so up went the avvie.

ok Back on Topic.

I wonder if there will be a follow up story on this when they do figure out just what caused the image. I'm going to try to remember to look but I'll admit I probably will forget.
Do you think this will sell well? It seems convient that they're putting this up on auction with it still not yet determined what caused the "alien's" appearance.

Wouldn't surprise me to find it's some Kids Toy the Ducks ingested.

This article gives a bit more info...

from the article.

While the director Jay Holcomb spoke with tongue in cheek Thursday of adding "intergalactic studies" to the center's title, an autopsy concluded there was only grain in the bird's stomach.

Seems there are also going to be some T-Shirts.
