View Full Version : Am I an Evil Person?

-H-
29th January 2005, 09:34 PM
OK so i'm working at the Booking Office at my station, i Have finished work .... yet I am evil because i will not get someone home to Birmingham!!!!!

Of Course its my fault that these people either cannot read a timetable correctly, or did not! and turn up at the station half an hour too late!

And because i Work here ... even though i'm on my way out of the Door!!!! They seem to think its my Responsibility to get them home!!!!

What do you think ?

Let the Poll Decide

the fact i enjoyed telling them where to go of course has no relation to the cause of my evilness! - i have a very good somber face ;)

NB:Before you make your judgement please feel free to post any question to cross examine me ;)

No, you aren't evil. You are also not responsible for someone else's screw ups!

That's like sayinf it's a cashier's fault that a customer read a sales sign wrong.

ok, before I make judgement, heres a question... do you save kittens out of trees? :p

No!!! People have to take responsibility for their own actions and accept the consequences!

Only if I want to eat them later!

Seiously .. if i could reach the kitten, i would try and save it ..... but only if it kept all claws on the outside of my skin ... any claw/skin penetration and i assume the cat is perfectly happy in its situation and leave it where it is !!!

Nope. Not your fault they were a half hour late.

No, not evil. Not for that reason, at least.

30th January 2005, 06:30 AM
You are NOT responsible for their screw up!

I work at Rail Europe (a rather big company owned by the French and Swiss governments, and we sell Rail travel in Europe) and we always, ALWAYS tell people that if anything, be EARLY for your train!

Sheesh... I KNOW those trains don't wait for late stragglers, and they were blaming you? No, you're not evil.

Shazza
30th January 2005, 06:58 AM
Apparently some people have never heard of timetables, or not learned to read one accurately.

In this case, H, you are not evil. However this does not exempt you from future accusations of evil.

-H- : I have a foolproof, no-blame system for trains: "The only certain way to catch a train is to miss the one before it".

Worked for me for 17 years on a weekly commute from Edinburgh to London. You just find the nearest bar, buy a pint, read your book and while away the time.

See - totally stress-free :D

Naah, you're just---eviiiillll. [and stretch out the vowels as long as you can!]

bwa ha ha ha :fiend:

But seriously, if they missed their train, they missed their train. If you knew of an alternate mode, and you told them, you've done your job. If not, you're not.

It's that simple--but we'll throw you into the stoning pit anyway, just for fun. ;)

On this occasion - No!

However I reserve the right to change my vote should I ever miss my train. Well, it couldn't possibly be my fault now could it, therefore it must be your fault for being so eviiiiiil! ;)

I've been working the late shift all week  , and it happened 3 times this week!!!

Once with the aforementioned person going to Birmingham! :disguise:

Once (the night before !) some bloke wanting to go to Stoke on Trent! - this was a classic muppet who couldnt grasp what i told him 4 times!!! ;
"it doesnt matter if you pay more money to go an alternate route! You won't get there tonight!!!!" :banghead:

and Finaly once to Stansted Airport! what that guy did i don't know !!!!

Honestly if i go somewhere by train (i do this alot by the way) i make sure i know the last 3 possible connections to my final destination! (and i did this before i started working on the railway!)

I'm begining to think i need a frustrated smilie .... you know one pulling its hair out and screaming in anguish!

Maybe i should write a book .... i can imagine the Title Now ..."From A to B by rail, Via the sensible way"

I think that many years ago (say, 100?) you could send a messenger to the station with orders to hold the train? Mr X is on the way. Or even order up a special! I think Sherlock Holmes used to do that
Those were the days!!

read your book, now that is a way to make sure you miss the train if you are not at the station where you can see it coming in. The rest of your reasoning I have to agree with. I always try to be about 10 to 15 minutes early for my train, just in case.

By the way -H- I don't think not wanting to take those stupid commuters home makes you evil. How weird can people get, expecting a complete stranger to take you home after being to stupid to read a timetable.

There was another incident today that may make some of you have not yet voted make a decision!

Today while serving tickets two very well dressed gentlemen (late 40's-posh accents) came up to me and started into a diatribe on how they wanted a return ticket as fast as possible and they needed to get there by 2pm.

"was there a buffet on board?(you gotta be kidding! a buffet! on a silverlink train!!! )which platform?" all of these questions were fired at me without letting me have a moment to answer a single question!

followed by "how much?"

so taking into consideration the condecending looks they were still giving me aswell as the amazing ability to look down there noses at me while i tower over them, not to mention they hadn't actualy said where they were going!

me: *taps away at ticket machine* "thats £820 please" .... *pause* "each!"

the look on their faces was priceless ! ;) and they turned bright red with embaressment as i began to lecture them on manners, and why i was charging them the price of a 14 day all line rail rover (they hadnt said where so i offered the only ticket that would take them anywhere ;) )

needless to say i finaly sold them a ticket to Berkhamsted of all places ...

If it was some poor lost tourist who had gotten mixed up, then you should have stayed to help a bit. We don't have passanger trains here, so I'd be one of the ones needing a bit of extra help. If they're locals and know the trains, then they're on their own. I love what you did to the impolite gents. :D

Well so far its pretty clear that statisticaly i am confirmed at present to be only 25% evil

Although if you speak to certain people here .... i'm not going to mention any names ..... LL

that 25% is the purest form of evil ever discovered .... :darkside:

You are evil!

Quite simply evil.

In any position, situation, cause, effect, duty or negligence, you are evil.

Why? 'Cos you're the 'service' and 'they' are the public!

No matter what you do or say, no matter how you act or perform for them, you will always be cast as evil if they do not get 100% service tailored to each individual despite any company policy or ruling.

You cannot win!

Do not even try.

If you try, you are also evil!

Do I sound like the voice of experience?

Your not evil they are just stupid! Failure to understand a timetable and not to ask at information is not your fault. You just work there.

1.) Of course you are evil...it has nothing what so ever to do with trains.

2.) Well for a change Mausey, I don't quite agree with you this time. If I were a tourist, I would make darm certain sure I was there (where ever there might be) a long time before train time. Unsure of local customs I would definately not want to be late because I would not know other options available to me.

3.) What are time-tables? I have a car...... :fiend:

No and no stoning pit as well. After working with the public for years in two jobs I finally realize it is my fault everything goes wrong. Such power we have. I finally picked someone each week to blame. I have chosen President Bush for this whole month. No reason he's just in power.
