On Sunday, I watched The Shawshank Redemption with some friends. I'd seen it before, and enjoyed it, but this time I was blown away. What a great movie, special in every area, with at least half-a-dozen moments that would make any film!
During the movie, though, I kept getting this feeling, as if I was viewing something special. I get the same feeling, of course, when I see my other favourites, like Ghost in the Shell, Princess Mononoke and Return of the King, but it did make me wonder whether the feeling is caused by the movie itself or me telling myself that it's great.
So, have you ever gone into a movie with very low expectations and then come out with a warm, "2 hours of perfection" feeling? Or have you anticipated a movie a great deal, squirmed with impatience as the opening credits start, and then realized a while later that it was a pile of drivel?

I know what you mean! The same applies to good songs. Movies that "get" me are: Edward Scissorhands, and uh..... merde, i'm completely blanking, i'll get back to you on that.
Songs that do the same thing: Bohemian Rhapsody (queen) Imagine (J. Lennon) Blvd. of Broken Dreams (green day) Memory (Cats, AL Weber)

All of the LotR movies, but especially RotK. They were absolutely mind-blowing. I didn't expect anything of Secret Window or Freaky Friday, but I loved both. The same thing could be said of The Italian Job remake. Star Wars episodes 4, 5 and 6 blow me away too.
The most overhyped and disappointing movies I've seen are Star Wars 1 and 2 as well as Star Trek: Nemesis.

Yup, it was the one with JD. I didn't expect much of Finnish movie Pahat Pojat (Bad Boys), but I was blown away by it. Very, very good.

I had that with Amelie, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, all of the Lord of the Rings films (but especially Fellowship), and Spirited Away.

Remember the Titans (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0210945/) and Any Given Sunday (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0146838/)
Now these are good Movies, which i didnt expect to enjoy, yet after awatching them I immediatley told my friends about them!!!!
Both are based around a sport i cannot stand (American Football), yet the movies are made great by the character interactions and the story behind the game!
One set during a time of school integration (mixed colour schools), and another set in a scene of high a high profile glitz more modern game.
But the story is more behind the scenes !!!!!
Great Movies !!!!!
