View Full Version : Have you re-read for McCaffrey Quest?

Well, have you?

I'm afraid I havn't - not had the time for a major re-read what with everything else going on recently, and my Pern re-read is still stuck in the 1st pass what with all my fanfic research.

But anyway - if you have been re-reading, is there any particular scene in any of the CS books that particularly stands out for you?

What scenes had you forgotten/overlooked, that are suddenly seeming fresh and interesting?

And which ones are the old friends that you look forward to reading again?

Me, I really like the descriptions of all those foods that the Singers gorge themselves on. I come from a family that loves food far too much, and reading those passages brings back memories of great meals I've had in the past... I also enjoy the technical passages, where we find out about the different ways to cut crystal.

I'll probably get lynched for saying this, but Lars Dahl does nothing for me, though I'm sure he's one of the characters that certain readers look forward to reading about... ;)

As for the bits I've overlooked? Well, I guess I'll find those when I start frantically combing my books for MQ answers...

I haven't reread CS ones, and am only up to Renegades still, guess I'm not gonna get em all done.

I don't mind Lars, but I feel sorry for Lanzecki!!

I haven't read Crystal Singer in a long time, I am hoping it all comes flooding back when I give MQ a go. That and having the book next to me

It looks likely that I will be lucky for once and be around for the days MQ is running.

Not really... I've had some time, so I've read a couple of things - but not as 'study' for the quest. I'll have a go at it, but I'm not holding my breath for a good score! :D

I read most of the DRP ones but not the CS ones. I have a fairly god memory so should be satisfied with that. If not I have my copy of the series with me so can look stuff up :D

Nope. I read Crystal Singer some months ago, but I didn't really feel like reading the other two. I LOVED the concept for the story, but I just didn't feel that it had been executed well. Very simply plotted, and the middle really dragged for me. And I couldn't really sympathise or relate to Killa much...

The most memorable part for me is Killa and Carrick vacationing on Fuerte. I really mourned his being reduced to a vegetable, I really liked him :(
And when Killa hunts down Kerborgen's claim. Very memorable.

But I hateHateHATED when Killa hooked up with Lanzecki, that made me literally groan out loud  WHY does Anne need to have her lead femal characters fall for the most POWERFUL man on the planet?! Gah...

I would try reading Killashandra, it's got a different feel than Crystal Singer, and more tension in the plot.

I must admit, that after scanning the book thoroughly for MQ, I really want to sit down and read it again. It's actually pretty decent, like most early McCaffrey.

[Though I always used to be a little embarrassed by the book as a kid. The old corgi paperback cover... well, you can see Killa's nipples.]

Same here, Kath! Even though I didn't really want to before, MQ sparked my interest again :D Although now I've read some spoilers...

Did check up on a few things in the end but my memory was good enough to get the page fairly rapidly. I almost got caught up reading it at one point :eep:
