View Full Version : Need a name...

In the story I'm currently writing, there's a world with this water that's rich with a calcium-like substance that causes rapid healing and slows aging (note I said "SLOW", not "STOP") in addition to providing the Dragon-like natives there with strengthening health.

I'm trying to think of an appropriate term for this substance. Any suggestions?

Much thanks. :)

Don't give it a technical name, or anything even remotely suggestive of a specific chemical formula. You'd be better off alluding to its properties as an anti-agatic/whatever, so look to your nearest pseudo-language book rather than a chemistry/geology text.

Maybe the "vitus elixir"?

Keep it short--maybe 'vitum' or something like that.

Or you could make up a gibberish word to mean it; maybe even take two with separate meanings and smash them together. (like so: "tal"=life; "rin"=water. thus, "talrin.")

Akvit? (Latin aqua=water, vitae=life, i. e. water of life)

If someone gave me a glass of Akvit, I'd be expecting a very strong alcohol!

Yes, I suppose it would be a good idea to avoid using technobabble. :)

Much thanks again, everyone, for those suggestions.

I found a name it, deciding to have the natives name it.

The name: *starts a drumroll*

Calaquim

aqua- + calcium = aqualcium (scramble the letters & take out a 'u')
