We've had Pern casting in the fantasy of a perfect film ever being made, so how about some music.
I'm not talking about the kind of "real music with musicians" type of music, just a track or melody that you think the title/content would suit Dragonriders.
For example, scrolling through my WMA files I find:
Mighty Wings - by Cheap Trick
Learning To Fly - by Pink Floyd
Wherever You Will Go - The Calling
Albatross - Fleetwood Mac.

U2 had just released the Unforgettable Fire album when I first read Dragonquest, so that is the music I always think of when I read the book, and likewise think of the book when I hear the music.

So what music do you associate with/think would suit Pern?

Ok now I will date myself. How about Freebird by Lynard Skynard, Knights in white Satin is also a good one. And who can forget Puff the Magic Dragon by Peter, Paul and Mary. He lives by the sea you know. Or how about Greensleves done by Manheim Steamroller. Well I will stop now but I can think of a few more.

I just bought the Master Harper of Pern CD not to long ago..I listen to either it or my Celtic album, or my songs I wrote and recorded on a tape and think of DRoP. *sighs* I wish I still had my high soprano voice. *sighs*

Several of Yanni's items from his "Out of Silence" album sound as though fire-lizards are part of the music :D (#'s 1,3,5,8,&10) :applause:

However, at the risk of dating my own hatching, I have to ask Fuzzyp---PUFF? are you out of your mind? :redfruit:

If PUFF- ing your own "Magic Dragon" puts you in mind of Pern, then yes, probably! :darkside:

I love Puff! When I was little we had a storybook that I think was based off of a cartoon - it told the story of the song. I always cry. Every time.

A dragon lives forever, but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys...

...Without his lifelong friend, Puff could not be brave
So Puff the magic dragon sadly slipped into his cave.

I DO NOT CARE what everyone says, it's a beautiful story. Even if they weren't really talking about a dragon.

I wouldn't want any of that kind of music, really - I would want Pernese music. Instrumental - guitar and pipes. Maybe a pop version of the Question song during the credits.

If I were to choose music to go in a Pern film, I would exclude all 'modern' music and go with more the style of the Masterharper CD. But when I read the majority of the Pern books I'd been listening to Evanescence mostly so I've always associated the two for some reason. But by no means do I think it *belongs* in Pern. Well, maybe 'My Immortal'....

This probably sounds strange but in the town where I live there is a group of young people that looked Pernese when I saw them perform. They are young (high school/college students) and there are 3 boys and 2 girls. They play violin, mandolin, acoustic guitar and I think one of the boys plays a base fiddle. Their stye is folksy for the most part with a little country and even some bluegrass elements. I was shocked when I saw them on TV. I never knew this little burg possessed such talented young people. Now, when I think about Pern and music I tend to think about these kids.

Sounds interesting, Sandi. I hope they get beyond just local TV...
