View Full Version : Poster info on the side or at the top?

I must say I love the NKT already. I do have one peeve, though, it's that I don't like having the thick bar with the avatar between posts. It makes for a lot of scrolling, especially with one-line posts. I'd rather like to have the poster info back at the left side of the post, as at WAM and MoM.
It's possible to change it, but it'll take a bit of effort. So, before the admins do anything about it, I'd like to know, are you as bugged by it as I am, or am I the only one? If it's the latter, I'll learn to live with it. :)

Either is fine with me, but I think if I had my screen resolution at the setting I used to have, it would bug me. I voted for Either.

I'd like it to change, if possible.

it doesn't REALLY matter to me, but if i had the choice, i'd put it back on the side...

i think id prefer the change... but it doesn't matter too much.

Either is fine with me... But it did take a few minutes to figure out where everything was :runaway:

change please
as has been said before...too much space & too much scrolling
:)

Either way is fine by me. Does make you LOOK for it, though.

Scrolling doesn't bother me. Remember siggies twelve times as large as a post? Scrolling passed them didn't bother me.
But this look. I'm used to it with the avatar and the location info and all that on the left side. I'd prefer that look. But if it's too much trouble, I'll take what I can get.

I voted for change. I didn't like scrolling past siggies at the old site and I prefer the way MoM flows.

I'd prefer it on the left side. :)

On my laptop screen, it doesn't seem to cause too much scrolling, though I have a high resolution! Will get Alter to check at w**k and we'll make a joint decision! I expect we'll be happy as things are. Taskes a small amount of getting used to but it's a nice feel generally! :D

I voted to leave it as is. It makes for a nice transition between posts, and it's no more annoying, scrolling-wise, than the huge sig blocks at the old KTBB. I think, in theory, vB can handle user chosen skins just like phpBB allows, so maybe the PTB can go that route to offer options to those who prefer info down the side or other color schemes.

Well, before commenting I'll just say that, although I'm admin, I had nothing to do with setting up the vB forums....I did the new KTL!
Anyhow, I really do like the new look better than having the poster details down the left. To me it's a much cleaner look and far easier to read. Yes there's a small amount of extra scrolling (but nothing compared to some siggies, hint hint!).
I just visited a vB 3 board using the "left side" config, and to me it looked cluttered compared to ours.
Anyhow...my tuppence worth!

This arrangement looks very good to me. I'm for leaving it as it is.

I'd rather scroll past longer sigs, even if I don't like them, than the bars... But I'll bow to the majority if it comes to that. I'm also getting more used to this, but I'm never going to like it. Of course, my scrolling decreased dramatically when I discovered that nifty button that says "jump to first unread post" or something like it... :D

I prefer it at the side. It makes for a cleaner, more streamlined look, and I don't have to read the info if I don't want to. At the top, I get bogged down trying to figure out who everyone is, and reading sigs, etc. It's distracting to me at the top. But...I'm here for the duration, so I'll take whatever! ;)

Said I'd drop by from w**k and confirm things and I still find this look fine! No major scrolling issues and I think, as I get used to it, I find this more appealing than the old style!
I say keep things like this personally!

I think I like this better than the old site. Sure it takes a minute or two to get used to but it's a nice look and having bigger avatars is a real bonus. :hopping:

You can keep the bigger avatars even with the info on the side. :) I am slowly getting over the shock of it, but I still don't like it.

It certainly wasn't bothering me enough to ask for a change, but now that you mention it. . . there are certain advantages to having it at the side (I've scrolled past a couple of posts just because of having to do large jumps to get past the headers), but I can live with either.
Now the 50 post/page default is another story. . .

Now the 50 post/page default is another story. . . Yep, that would be something I might ask about... I'd like it to be 40 like before... but that would need another thread.

Hmmmm, maybe people need to SEE what they are for or against and since we did have a week of the "in line" stuff (which is currently trailing by two votes) maybe I should switch and let people see what the other version would look like?
;)
Now, did I shock you again, dear?

This is more familiar but a change is a good as a rest isn't it? Or have we already had too much change?
Of course, the benefit of this way is I can re-instate our joint post count :D Will see if we stay like this or revert again?

Okay, now that the layout has been changed, this poll has served its purpose and may be closed. :ok:
Thanks so much for changing it to the side!
Edit:
Apparently this change is only temporary, if enough people insist on wanting the bar at the top.
Please hostie edit the options...
"Keep the Current" still means the info at the top, and "Please change" means info at the side. Thanks.

lol~ I voted for the side info... I had a post that referred to my avatar and without thinking about it I'd made a <--- to point to it~ when it updated the picture and all was up top and my arrow pointed to nothing...
now of course if you read the post today~ the arrow points to the proper informaton~ :good: :tilt:
so now im right lol~

I much prefer the "new" layout - that with the avatar and psuedo above the post. It might take a little getting used to, but I think it makes the site a little nicer. It also helps preserve the novelty of this being a shiney new site!

Hans
17th December 2004, 08:26 PM
Well... to read text (a lot of it sometime) this one for sure. On the other hand I did like the layout, just to look at from an aesthetic point of view, of the previous version better. So it depends on what I need to do. Like you set, in the next VB version it should be user settable!

Sorry to be so neutral but I like both variations. I am used to ignoring the stuff I don't need and just scrolling on, which is why signature length has never overly worried me.

I voted either way is fine. On the side is familiar, but on top was ok, as it's something different. Change is ok sometimes...

I'm voting no preference as both work for me. With the info to the left I can concentrate on the posts and ignore the info if I wish, but with the info on top I get to notice all the great avatars and also take note of where people are posting from, which helps when I find someone is not being ignorant but genuinely might not know what I'm talking about due to differences in language etc.

Yeah, looking at the poll results we should keep it as it is. More importantly I now am convinced :D
Seriously, I know I stated this myself earlier on but now I don't see the point in switching back again for a few days to let others see what they are not missing... It would probably only create a major confusion. So if everybody agrees...
....Ah, I see everybody does...
we'll leave it as it is! Hurrah.
