View Full Version : Where is the Gather with the Queen of the Wild Things?

Anneli
12th February 2005, 09:59 PM
OK, as threatened, here's the poll to decide where we Gather :D

The when has already been agreed as the afternoon of Sunday 27 February :good: The WTQueen, her consort and I will most likely arrive around 1400 from our previous engagement ;) - which doesn't mean that others can't start a bit earlier if they prefer :bouncy:

Incidentally, if anyone really can't make the Sunday, there's still the option of having a separate weekday meeting with our visitors in London in either the week before or after. :ok:

I am particularly hoping to join y'all, though this depends on transport to London being within my funds limit following my holiday the week before!

I will go for either option, so long as it's somewhere I can find!

As I can now be 99% sure that the Bobbwynn Clan will still be in the country (but only JUST) - I think you can guess where my vote went, No ?

:ok:

Can't wait to throw my arms around ya, 'Cilla dear...

With just over a week to go before the mini-Gather, I'm going to leave this poll for a couple more days before announcing a result

So, anymore bids for the Clam? :bouncy:

Me too - but if its going to be on the Sunday I really need to know by tomorrow to take advantage of "cheap" train tickets on trains that I want to travel on.

I really don't want to spend 5 hours at Kings Cross again like I did in November ;)

It was my fault - I hoped to take advantage of "an incident" which happened on the Friday which meant restrictions were lifted - but they were back on for the Sunday  - never mind I read my book in the First Class lounge and had free tea and coffee :)

we saw you sitting comfily when we arrived at kings cross again for our train back to York ;)

it looked much nicer in your lounge compared to where we had to wait

p.s. you do know that GNER have changed the 1st class lounge rules? the super cheap 1st class tickets (apex etc..) are not allowed in them now

OK, it's even stephens, so I hereby use my tie-breaking vote in favour of Central London :D

So for those who are planning to travel, please head for London on Sunday 27 February for around 1300-1400 and I'll post details about where to meet when I've had a think ;) Most likely place is a pub on Whitehall between Trafalgar Square and the Houses of Parliament.

Looking forward to seeing you :bouncy:

Right then .........

My plans are to travel down by National Express on Sunday Morning and meet at yet to be named pub early afternoon. Return journey to be Sunday evening approx 6-30pm.

BUT (big but ;) ) ..... it all depends on the weather. So I'll wait until Thursday/Friday before I buy my ticket.

BTW - train will cost £70-00 and Coach is £20-00

WOOOHOOOOO!

I Got Sunday Off

I'll be arriving at euston around half one-ish sunday afternoon ... as early as possible to get there without taking a 3 hour coach journey

Anneli
22nd February 2005, 09:20 PM
Sorry, Caer, London it is - KC and H and other members of the alphabet soup ;) will probably find it easier :bouncy: Besides, you're having a separate visitation by the Queen of the Wild Things, so you've nothing to complain about :fiend: That said, it'd be great if you could join us on Sunday so more Thingy worshippers can get a dose of him

Time will be 1330, place will be a pub on Whitehall called "The Old Shades". It's located at the end of Whitehall closer to Trafalgar Square. Walking from Trafalgar Square towards Big Ben on the left-hand side of Whitehall you will see a row of pubs, restaurants, tourist shops, McDonalds etc. "The Old Shades" is not very big or noticeable, so you may need to read the signs carefully :) But it does decent food at reasonable prices and has a good selection of beer and wine, again at reasonable prices - at least for London :D

If it turns out to be too crowded or anything else, we can always take a collective decision to move on elsewhere on the day.

Really looking forward to seeing you, and it'd be good if anyone else who's planning to attend could drop a reply in this thread so we know who to expect :ok:

As an alternative suggestion for a venue if you need one, there's always The Edge on Soho Street, right on the corner of Soho Square. We went there on Saturday afternoon during the UK gather & it was empty when we got there! Prices are no higher than here, & the food's not bad either :) It's quite small though, at least downstairs.

I am scheduled on the 11.00hrs train from Leicester to London St Pancras and will be hopefully be in London for about 12.40hrs... Time to navigate the underground and find the pub hopefully! :D

All this after the godawful hourney we just had back from the canaries  I'm not sure what kinda state I'll be in... Make sure the bar is clear when I arrive...

Lovely to Meet Maygirl and the not-at-all-camera-shy Honeymouse  And nice seeing the old faces as Anneli says! Old...? Did I say old? I meant haggard faces  x2

Of course, the highlight of my London jaunt was of course seeing Big Ben... :erm: I mean Auntie Clam :D :ok: She was everything I had imagined in the nicest possible way and more. A true re-inforcement of all I had imagined her to be  :hugs: A very special woman who I hold very dear to me!

Thank you all for a great day! KC for the dietry advice, Maygirl and Honeymouse for guiding me through the tube network and the rest of you for being there and being yourselves

Steps up to the podium, in the style of Gwynneth Paltrow (I think lol)

First I would like to thank Anneli for organising this get together.:ok:
Thank you to Priscilla and Jeff or is it Geoff  for coming to see us all and for the cute little dragon peeps, who are migrating around the metal supports holding the shelving up over my head.
Thank you to all you wonderous people for letting us in.
Is this where I should be sniffing and drying my eyes?

It is so good to be able to put animated, living faces to names.

H; I say unto you that you have no self control, but you can't take it with you so why on earth worry.

I have some pics, not as clear as I would like but a couple. Just not sure where to put them as I do not have a web page or whatever it is that I could stick them on and post links to (boy I hope that made sense!)

Jayson the mouse is determind to dig that little fact out and I am not at all sure you needed any help on the underground but it was sweet of you to give us credit. I cannot believe how quickly we got home and how easy it was. I think it is a clear case of the end of the line for Liverpool Street.:D
