View Full Version : Poll UK Gather 2005 Glasgow August 5 to 7

At the Gather Uk thread it seems that we all want Glasgow and World Con.We really need to decide now if we will book a place of our own.
I guess WorldCon has booked almost every big Hotell but I hope there will be
smaller ones for us.
So vote please and I will try to fix something from my elevated position of Sweden (geographically put) :banghead:
I need to know how many to book for !
I guess it's easier to get a good price if we are 10 or more.
And at least my limit is 120-150 for the friday and saturday night B&B.
So give me something to work with and I will come back with some hotels to choose from.
I do have a computer and should be able to get something done.
The poll will last for 25 days. :bouncy: Now closed.PM me if you want to join us.

Thanks for doing this Selene. I would like to attend but don't need accommodation. I've already booked through WorldCON.
I hope there are still some hotels left that haven't been booked up. You might have some luck with the hotels in the North of Glasgow away from the SECC, but the ones near Glasgow Central Station would be more convenient for transport.
Best of luck.
Steven.

It would certainly be best if we could all be in the same hotel like we've done in previous years, even better if we could fill one completely :)
As for WorldCon itself, that's pricing itself out of business I'd say, considering I registered 3 of us for Dragon*Con for $150 (£80), far less than it would cost for one at WorldCon...

I'll try and make it to meet everyone, but can't promise to be there due to work as we don't get time off during the summer normally. If I manage then I have plenty of friends around the area so will probably stay with one of them (one pair will probably be interested in attending as well).

I live in the United States, but I think I'm good to go anyway! I have family in Glasgow who will be glad to be chauffers, because I can't drive. I also can't see very well, so if you want an American bat about ... hi.

This place (http://www.blueskyhostel.com/) is quite good if you need somewhere really cheap, although it is bargain basement (dorms, cook your own food in their kitchen, etc.) and they don't allow large group bookings. I'll probably stay there any way, and come to join you at whatever hotel you choose.

I like the look of this place! Only 1 thing, people would have to room share if they didn't want to sleep in a dorm. Still, the price is right!

No I'm after a smaller place like that one in Blackpole.
Sara will help me she is between jobs for the moment .
But please feel free to come up with suggestions.
A small hotel with a Lounge and/or a Bar would be nice :bouncy:

Finances and work commitments permitting, I am hoping to make it to Glasgow with you all... I want to attend the gather but I'm not bothered about World Con. That's way overpriced for me and the gathers really are all about meeting folk from the site rather than meeting famous authors for me! If Anne is at the Con, I'm sure there'll be folk who'll enjoy attending but whether or not she is a part of our venture, I'd like to think we'll make a real effort this year... I shall be encouraging folk to sign up once we have a venue! :ok:

I missed last year :( and would like to attend this one - especially as I have relatives about 40 miles away . The gather only - I am not interested in a big convention atmosphere and couldn't afford it.
However it is too early yet for me to make a decision on this - can I be a possible maybe? :faint: When do you have to know by?
I didn't answer the poll .

Provided there's some mighty miracle waiting to happen, enabling me to attend the convention from California...
Yes, I'd stay at a hotel booked for the UK Gather.
My mom would be coming along as well.

I'm still waiting to know more details of the gather as I really do want to come up. I might give the WorldCon. a miss but let me know as soon as any things is sorted as I have to make some indevidual arrangements to get me up there. The name of the Gather venue would help alot as I will have to get a hotel sorted out for my needs!
