what do you think

reading both this seies and the serano and/or the Vatta series by elizabeth moon i've found a few simerlarities, do you think one was used as an idea to spur on the other????

I've never read the series. What is the first book?

If the two series are very similar, then I would check the publication datse and compare them to see which came first.

Is this "vatta" series any good?

Yes dux its now into four books and a fith is coming out next year, i won't spoil it by giving the plot away just pick up trading in danger which is the first book and make your own mind up!

I really don't think they are literally based on one another - the Serrano series, the Vatta series, and the Planet Pirate series are all in similar universes involving an interstellar Fleet. That's the main point of similarity. Moon is just really good at writing that type of environment. It's interesting to read her fantasy The Deed of Paksenarrion, which deals with military life in a mercenary company in a Tolkienesque world.
