View Full Version : Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow. Take 2

Well, I'm getting ready to do this again. Some may remember that a little over two years ago I cut off most of my hair and donated it to Locks for Love and tomorrow I'll be doing it again.

It's a lot easier the second time around. Last time it was a lot scarier, but this time I just want it to go. It's gotten to that length where all I can do with it is put it in a tail and it keeps getting caught in stuff. The down side is that last time I think it may have been a couple of inches longer, so I may end up with even shorter hair this time around. :erm:

When I did it last time my daughter didn't recognize me when I came home and my son thought I looked silly. Now that he's 6 hopefully he's learned a bit more tact. We shall see.

Pics will be posted asap. Wish me luck.

Good luck. 6yr old are not known for tact.

Mine's getting long enough to donate again, but I'm planning to let it keep going for a little while longer. I want it to still be long enough to be able to get it up off my neck!

Go Duxie! :erm: I'm not sure my hair would be able to grow long enough to be able to donate it again in just two years.

Can't wait to see your pics!

At first I wasn't too sure about the cut but I've had so many compliments on it I've begun to think that my long hair must have looked really bad!

This is my second donation. It took four years of growth to get my hair length from my neck to my waist. As I have no talent at styling I'm sure I'll just let this cut grow out and donate again! Maybe I'll only wait 2 years for the next time. :)

My hair grows approx. 1/2 inch a month, so 2 years gave me the 12 inches. As soon as hubby comes home from work I'll have him take the after pic.

I think you look really good. :) I love the new cut. Too bad hubby won't let me cut my hair short again. I prefer it. Though I might need to cut it a bit shorter this time because the lady who cut my hair cut it all weird. It's a bunch of layers but the bottom section is all one lengt. :swear:

Well done to all donators. My hair is never long enough to donate as I like it short for work (no need then to put it up in a bun)

My hair is so long that I can actually sit on it, and, although I am 50 this year it is still the same red hair I had when I was 18!

I couldn't imagine having it cut short again, I used to have it really short that a quick swipe with a towel after it was washed would dry it but I just couldn't be without long hair now - even though I have lost a lot of the thickness of it over the years with the tablets I take. I do sometimes get caught up on things but its my own little vanity thing. Plus, my husband likes my hair long and I always try to please him.

My friend did that one year and she's just about ready to do it again!

That's awesome that you both do that. It's such a great cause. :good:

Sirena - it looks amazing like that! But your long hair looked amazing too! Guess you can't win!

Dux - I remember the last time you did it - you looked really cute with it short too! ;)

My hair can get that long, but even if I were willing to have a supershort cut (I'm not), it isn't very healthy when it hits that length.

Holy Crackers!! mine stalls out and slows down the longer it gets.. plus im a color addict so no locks for mine anytime soon..

congrats on being able and willing to give!! my daughter gave some last year, she has very pretty thick hair, I swear the hair dresser was drooling! lol~

I'm with you, Nurianna.
Purple isn't much called on for donated hair, but as it's nicely growing back now, I'm not sure I'd want to cut it again anytime soon.

Good cause though.
Had a friend who needed a couple of wigs due to chemo. in the recent past, and they were able to be just about spot-on with colour and texture.
:ok:

Looking forward to your pix, Duxie!

I'm amazed at how fast your hair grows. It took me about 10 years to get hair to the middle of my back and you managed in 2.:faint:

la sirena that is indeed a lovely cut, but I also think the long hair was beautiful. :)

It's great to donate your hair like that to someone who could use it. Unfortunately, I could never do the same. I have a hair-pulling disorder, you see. Whenever I get stressed, I pull my hair out one strand at a time. It may not seem like much, but even at that rate it disappears awfully fast.

Trying to remember when I last donated... I think it was in December 2006, I had about twelve inches cut off and still had enough for a ponytail, long enough to twist up off my neck. My hair is very thick so I was really lightheaded afterward! I know my hair now is still not as long as it was before - I can tell because when I braid it I can't braid it as long. Maybe four or five inches short still.

Did you have to get it developed! I am anxious. :D

Hopefully these will come out. Sorry it took so long. The pics had been taken right away but it took this long for hubby to send/get them to me. The first is the "before" obviously. The second is a little blurry, but I have two others I'll put in the next post.

You have one more step than me Dux. I don't like the way mousse makes my hair feel so it's wash, condition, comb in the shower and add a bit more conditioner.

I like the new cut by the way, very cute. :D

Just so Mausey's post makes sense she's commenting on a pic I posted and then deleted as she was posting. The pic wasn't that clear, but I'll repost it now with the comments I had made:

This pic was taken the next day. I'm pretty wind blown, but it's closer to how I'll look normally without a stylist to do my hair. I'm not much for spending time on my hair. Basically it's wash, comb, mousse and that's it. If the style requires more it's not for me.

Your hair looks lovely -- shorter and longer -- though I think the shorter look is a bit nicer.

People are telling me I ought to keep my hair short. I just can't see keeping it this short the rest of my life. I think I'm going to let it grow back out. It will be below my hips in less than 4 years and would be long enough to donate in about a year to 18 months if I were to do that.

Right now I have colored my hair so I'd have to cut all that off first.
