Woohoo! My son was chosen to accompany the physics department director to the National Undergraduate Research Observatory. After they are done playing with the telescope, they are taking four days to hike the Grand Canyon. :D

HIKE the Grand Canyon??????? Sounds like a good use for a telescope, to me. But then, I'm just a lazy ole man. Hope he has fun and stays safe. It's a long way to the bottom. Worst case of soil erosion I ever saw.

Hike? You said hike the Grand Canyon? I think I'd prefer a mule to do the hiking and I'll just sit and take pictures. :D

Congratulations to your son, it sounds like a fabulous trip. :applause:

Mausey I guess you have never ridden the mules in the grand canyon. They like to walk on the EDGE.<g>

I almost got the chance to take the hike when I was an Assistant Scout Master. Fortunately the trip was cancelled.<g>

It's a long way down and a longer way up.

Seriously Jen. If he is going ow, dress WARM. It's don't right cold at the top and worse on the bottom. They have been getting snow.

When does he go?

4 days, lets see. One day down three days up? Yep sounds about right. At least that's what it would take me. I like hiking but that is a bit much on the old back and knees.

Thanks everyone, for the congrats! Jim, he's going mid March and will be there a total of ten days. I'll be checking on weather for the area plus he is traveling with a man who does this annually. Thanks for your concern and I'll be checking with you closer to time on the weather!
