The WLT & Way of the Willet Theme Song Combo
We'll be posting till the morning wait and see,
And we'll make them as confusing as can be,
There'll be nonesense and Outsanity,
To confuddle all humanity,
This Thread is mad so post along with me.
We'll be scoffing all the cookies we can see,
And we'll eat as many chocolates as can be,
There'll be thong talk and Outsanity,
And a general dose of vanity,
This Thread is now as sturdy as a tree.
With a question then an answer then a quote,
We will keep this thread as bouyant as a boat,
No KT member will be safe,
If they enter our little space,
We will capture them within the words we wrote.
When your naff boss really seems to get your goat,
We will make you laugh quite heartily from the throat,
No simple message will be safe,
In this double entendre space,
As we quote and chat and generally gloat.
What is this total chaos you may ask,
And what is this strange threads overriding task?
It's to talk for far too long,
To make our droll w**k speed along,
The Willets ways are here to always last!
What is this thread in question you may ask,
And what is this strange threads overriding task?
It's to make a thread so long,
That the world will sing along,
World's Longest Thread is here to always last!
By the amazing Ja¥son/AlterEgo Merged Genius!

The World's Longest Thread FAQS
Welcome! Wilkommen! Bienvenue! Bienvenida! Fáilte! Sdrasvitye! Kia Ora! Croeso! Tervetuloa! To The World's Longest Thread!
A question that us regular posters, Willeteers as we’ve come to be known, here on the WLT are often asked is 'whuh?' Well, it's quite simple really. . .
So how'd this all start?
The World's Longest Thread dates back to the beginning of the WoAM KTBB, a bulletin board not dissimilar to this one, where it began its existence as a humble but effective exercise in post count uppage and random emoticon posting   :p The original WLT was over 100 pages in length, causing that bulletin board to crash and bringing the wrath of the PowersThatBe. Those-who-must-be-obeyed decreed that no Willet on that site could be more than 15 pages. Doing this also gives us the chance to dream up interesting or amusing names for each new WLT. As you can tell (check our WLT History Page (http://wltstuff.vexingvixen.net/wlthistory.html) to see), we don't always manage it, but it's the thought that counts.
What do we post here?
Well, likesay, it started off as random smilies and such, but like any good viral infection, it's diversified and evolved since then. Some people come here to post little details from their life, let off steam about their unworthy employers, or share funny things they heard or saw. Others come here to trade witticisms, brag about how much dosh they made on Celebdaq, or post their most recent high score at this week's fashionable Flash-based internet game (Run Escape! for example) that the world will have forgotten in a month (anyone remember that game from last month?). Yet others come here to call Anonew 'Gwyneth' and generally annoy him cough*Jayson*cough. Or to watch the WLT renowned Kitty & Jayson Show. It's very much a case of post what you want, when you want.
To enhance your posting enjoyment please feel free to use this devilishly fiendish piece of programming from Anonew  (http://earth.prohosting.com/dartga/kt_ciser.html) just click the smilie , a tool most useful in making your drivel appear pretty. However, you'll receive complaints if you do this too often, since it messes up the formatting of the archived versions (don't even ask -- there are some things you'll learn as you go).
What's the deal with all the poems?
At some point in the past, it was decided that whoever made the first post on a new page, with the exception of page 1 and page 15, would have to post a page starting poem. This was generally kinda cool, but for those unlucky enough to get stung with a poem five or six times in a row (it happened) it was a bit onerous, to which end Anonew came up with The WLT Poem Generator (http://earth.prohosting.com/dartga/poemgen.html) which, despite some controversy, takes 99% of the effort out of doing page starting poems, if so wanted. No-one’s looking for Shakespeare after all. Of course there’s also the much copied classic from Kitster, the "innit" poem which shall be a treasured memory for many years (or hours at least!) FAQ’s, Innit!
There is also a traditional poem that appeared on each page 15 (along with the lengthy tale "The Curse of the Unfinished Willet") which can be found in our off-site archives (http://wltstuff.vexingvixen.net/).
Some folk in doing the poems for so long on WoAM, became a wee bit weary of trying to find rhymes for some of the pages, like seven and eleven and so, some of the most ancient willeteers were granted not only exemption from doing so but also the almighty power to grant immunity to others; you can read more about this on our Poem Immunity Page (http://wltstuff.vexingvixen.net/nktimmunities.html).
Page starting poems, following a brief period of banning due to excessive length and copyright breachment have been re-established in this new forum and we do find that upon starting a page, if you wish to stand up and recite poetry to us or your friend/lodger/cat/coffee cup* (*Delete as appropriate) this is perfectly acceptable and often rather therapeutic, so long as they are no longer than say, twelve lines, and original in content! Alternatively a random factoid, a link, a personal fact, or joke can be posted, though this is considered by some as the boring and uninspired way out of a poem corner. Some willeteers also like to intersperse non-page-starting poems or quote song lyrics: this is usually considered alright, if they're only snippets and not epics, and their authors are properly credited within the post. Unfortunatly due to a recent abuse of poemage in the WLT, the hosties have decreed that only page starting poems are to be posted. All other poetry should be in the appropriate forum. However, should you be the lucky one to start a page and either ignore or not realize that fact, and the page ends without appropriate poemage being offered, you will be subject to dire consequences, the likes of which are too ugly to describe in this nice, polite FAQ document.
Okay, got that. Now what's all these stats and the really long poem at the beginning?
The long poem at the beginning is basically the WLT National Anthem and should appear in the first post of every WLT. No ifs, no buts, just do it! It can also be found in the off-site archives (http://wltstuff.vexingvixen.net/). Near the start of each new Willet, we post the stats from the last one, including the number of posts made by each individual willeteer and also the ongoing stats. A list of people who've started a WLT and how many they've done are included and almost of most importance, a list of the number of pages and posts from the start of the WLT. It is the World's Longest Thread after all. . . We need this as proof!
Why?
It's an expression of everyone's inner nerd, probably. It's also a huge pain in the neck - almost everyone complains about doing them but secretly loves doing so! Make sure you’ve mastered copy and paste before you start a Willet! And please -- if you know that you'll be logging off or have no desire to start a Willet, do not post within the last 10 lines of page 15 of any WLT. Of course, if you've not participated in at least two previous Willets, you're not eligible to start one, so don't even think of it.
Newbie pot? Cushion?
Simply, this is the initiation ceremony for new Willeteers. For the duration of your first WLT, you will be thrown in the newbie pot (take a hot bath of stew in other words). For your second WLT, you're a cushion. After that -- and only after that, you're eligible to compete to be a WLT-starter (yes, a daunting task, but we even have an Instruction Page (http://wltstuff.vexingvixen.net/wlt_start.html)) And please don't feel self-conscious about your trip into the newbie pot -- you'll find that willeteers are always getting wet, whether by jumping into the duck pond or hot tub, or getting dowsed with a bucket of water.
This affects me how?
Not at all. We're not some kinda bizarre clique of weirdos here (except in the sense that we blatantly are) so you can either post a few 'splash splash' type posts, or just breeze on past this thread in search of your favourite bonding or some serious discussion on which colour of dragon is most likely to hatch from an egg of indeterminate size but kept three degrees warmer than the others!
Smart operators will already have discerned that the initiation can be avoided by waiting until near the end of page 15, making one 'Hi I'm posting here' type post, thereby cutting out the entire newbie pot stage in a fell swoop of timing (or something). But be warned: the WLT has a habit of generating new traditions at the drop of a hat. Never think yourself safe!
Ketchup? Is this a diner?
No, though we often post about food and reading the WLT may make you extremely hungry. Quite a lot of the posts generated here are done when people log into the forums, and catch up with the progress of the WLT, usually by quoting lots of people's posts and responding. Catch up aka Ketchup, Cat Poop, Catching Hoops or some other such expression is the terminology used by all the Willeteers who enjoy this willet tradition.
Suppose I'm enjoying myself and want to go past the 15th page?
We really wouldn't recommend that. In fact, it's actually considered to be illegal and immoral -- at least in our somewhat skewed world view. Any posts beyond page 15 do not count in the running totals, and may result in bad-tempered reactions from other willeteers, ranging from sharp bites to a stint in the stocks, with other posters throwing rancid and rotten objects at you (also the punishment for those who post enough in one Willet to annoy others and bring complaints of how fast it went and how much ketchup resulted). If you value your limbs and clean clothing, remember this: Fifteen is thine magic number: the number shalt be fifteen. Thou shalt not stop at fourteen nor proceed to sixteen, but achieve the number fifteen in its fulfillment!
Is this thread anything to do with ClanFiend?
Not in and of itself, no. However, scientists working in a shed in East Sussex recently calculated that at its present rate of growth, by 2010 everything in the world will have something to do with ClanFiend, so don't hold your breath. For those who have still got no idea what we’re talking about and are now in deeper confuddlement with the mention of ClanFiend, check the ClanFiend Info Page! (http://wltstuff.vexingvixen.net/clanfiend.html)
Anything else I oughta know?
Probably, but we've been typing for ages now, so that's your lot, nearly. . .
We have just enough typing ability left to say:
’We hope your enjoy your visit here at the WLT. Please note that toilet facilities are located at the rear of the building, but due to budget cutbacks and no-one being bothered, these haven't been cleaned since 1912. Same deal with the kitchen - last month whatever lives in there nailed the door shut and set up an independent democratic republic.’
Anyhow, enjoy your stay and come back often!

Good luck with that. If you can afford to do so, you may want to look at temp agencies if your hopes don't pan out.

I really just have to make it to the Fall job fair at the end of Aug/beginning of September.
I think I'll get the temp position at the bookstore though. I've done the job before and worked with the person who conducted interview. Plus, I have excellent availability, and can work while the dorms are closed (unlike most people).

Portable Apps (http://portableapps.com/) are programs that run directly off the thumbdrive without needing installation on the computer. OpenOffice.org, Firefox, and Pidgin (Instant Messenger) are all available as portable applications.
Its nice being able to take a browser and instant messenger with all your custom settings and bookmarks with you wherever you go.

I'm typically an early riser but I try to sleep in a little longer on Saturdays and Sundays.
So why am I awake at 4:30 a.m.?
I was awakened by a helicopter.
Not just one passing over but passing over again and again, quite low, and hovering over my building.
I finally went to the balcony and watched for a while -- it was hovering not directly over the building but in front of and above with a search light aimed toward the apartment complex down the hill from mine.
It's gone now but I'm awake. :irked:

I need to rant a bit. For those that have never played D&D type game or a LARP, this is most likely not going to make sense.
*Snippys.*
This complainer is a staff member for another game in the organization that my game belongs to. It will be really interesting to see what happens. One point in my favor is that the older lady is the wife of one of my players who is also on staff for the other game and the second in charge of the other game was also present.
Ok, rant over.
There's always someone who has to ruin it for everybody else. I presume he didn't think that he could ask others for advice while Out Of Character. I also presume that that would be allowed in such a game.
One RP social circle I know, it's now traditional to, if your character dies, to stand up, scream "IT'S BULLSHIT, (GMs' name)" in a really 'girly' shriek before stomping out the door.
The reason for this tradition is a player who rolled a really crappy series of die rolls did just that, and is now a) no longer playing with those people and b) laughed about a hell of a lot.
Yeah, exactly. The funniest part, though, is that the GM whose game it is, is a 'softie' - if 'T' hadn't thrown a tantrum, he had a good chance that his character might come back to life.
(I once had a character fall... well, okay, jump... off of one of the Twin Towers. A giant bird happened to be flying past...)
That was . . . convenient.
Well, I did happen to be holding a small girl whose death would cause the end of the world...
I'm glad you got caught!
Rabble, you really need to find a way other than net bars. How much longer until they get things straightened out at your place? I still say that it wouldn't hurt to try and find an unprotected wireless network to leech off of.
Well . . . first, that's illegal. Second, that's impolite. Third, if they just happen to have a virus that hasn't kicked in and wiped out their system yet, you could get it too. Be paranoid. Practice Safe Internet Accessing.
*exists*
*Is glad.* ;)
I is back from my hols. Good time was had except for this morning when I put my back out strapping Wolfling into the car - I then had to drive home over 100 miles in agony - still in pain at the mo but at least it's managable.
Wolfling spent the week cruising the furniture and anyone who sat still long enough and now has one more tooth with another almost through.
Pain? What happened? :hugs:
Thumbdrive + Portableapps will solve that on any computer.
Not the one where I work. It'll trigger security alarms.
Grr. I wish I could find a group for D&D. I'd even be willing to DM, just nobody wants to play.

Heh heh, I got one:
Pooky and I had just gotten off work at midnight from the NAPA Warehouse in '99. We went to the 24/7 grocery store to pick up some munchees then went home. I had put the leash on Jiggers (my brindle Pug) and was walking him outside when a helicopter came overhead with its searchlight on. It flashed it over the complex and me a few times and then they settled it on me. I waved (nicely :D) and then here come two police cars. They got out and asked me where I had been earlier. They asked who owned the cream colored Caprice and I said it was my uncle's car. They then asked me if I had a black boyfriend. I replied, "No, a white husband" One went to the apartment door to ask hubby some questions and the other one was talking to me. Seems a couple had been causing trouble at another 24/7 grocery store about a mile and a half away in the opposite dirrection we had come from. They had called the police and gave them a description of a salt and pepper team (mixed couple) that was driving a light colored, big Chevy car. We showed them the receipt from the grocer we were at. Since our stories were the same, we had proof where we had been, and that Pooky wasn't black (just black headed), they bid us good night and left - after I got to asking them if they knew a certain Corporal at the East Side Station (family friend).
I wonder what that couple did to warrant calling out the helicopter?
It didn't bother me when they showed up. I got used to policemen, both in uniform and plain clothes, going in and out of my house. Dad was their gunsmith until they finally got one hired on the force . . .

Whoo, I had an awsome Midsummer! :D
The stable owner & family were away but there were five of us looking after the house and the animals. There was another one of our riding instructors with her 14 year old son, and two of our riders (who help out a lot), a woman and her 13 year old girl. (They came a bit later than the first two, and when the girl showed up and saw who was there, she immediately started worrying about now having brought a nicer sweater. :giggle: )
We rode horses (including the midnight ride), did stable work, cooked a lot of good food, played games and watched a movie. So a very nice three days. The weather was on-and-off rainy (though more on the sunny side) but not too cool so no complaints there.

It works for most "Hey, can I borrow your computer for a sec" moments. Not as much for places of employment.
I'm down in Florida.
So, the Wifey and couldn't come down for a sit around the table game then. Of course, we're both into RuneScape (http://www.runescape.com) so we're not really all that likely to spend time playing traditional D&D anymore.
BZ, Faren, and I make a triangle in Florida. BZ and Faren are about as far apart (drive time) as I and BZ are. But, for me to drive to Faren's general location takes me twice as long.
Ah, not an equilateral triangle then.

Yesterday's Gather was quite enjoyable. A good time was had by all.
There were 3 willeteers present. Purpura, Murphy and myself
We used a different park this time, one that's closer to both MasterHarperBridget's house and my apartment. Which was handy because the two of us are the ones who haul the most stuff to the gathers. The parking was a bit closer which made unloading and reloading nice. It was also next to one of the little lakes.
The lake was duck infested, and in the morning before everyone got there, three of them came over and checked us out. There's also fishing in the lake. I don't have a fishing license but for the October Gather I might take gear so that Dena's (Earthmothers) boys can fish. They are young enough to do so without a license.
The spot we used was shady until quite late in the afternoon. We had lots of fun with the squirt guns and throwing water at each other.

Okay, I've mostly been very pleased with my new flat. But one big complaint: the oven. It's an old one, and does not hold the temperature it's supposed to. I was making brownies last week and they turned out all gooey (but still tasty!); now I'm making rice porridge. Thinking of my previous experience I turned the temperature higher but it's still taking much longer than usual.
I'm going to have to get a new one, I think. There's no way I can make something complicated like bread in that.

Pain? What happened? :hugs:
Combination of hard bed, flat pillows and lifting an over 20lb baby up and down into a pop-up travel cot on the floor, wedged between the end of the bed and the wardrobe at least once a night.
My back ached on and off all week but the last straw was when I bent over while leaning into the back of the car to do up Wolfling's car seat. I almost screamed in the poor pup's face. I had to drive us home like that because Hubby dearest is registered as partially-sighted and neither of my in-laws would have fitted in the driver's seat fully forward with Wolfling's buggy stuck behind it.
When we stopped for a rest halfway home I ended up propped up against a lamp post in the services' car park for the better park of 10 minutes before I could walk again.

It wasn't me, but going by the look on Wolfing's face he may have had something to do with it (or he's preparing to drop a nappy bomb).
Wolfling stands up in his and chews on the top rail, he also likes to bounce on the mattress as the base is springy.
Does Alison's cot have an adjustable base which can be lowered? If you're worried about a Mousling reenactment of the Great Escape it might be worth dropping the mattress now. We haven't yet dropped Wolfling's as he's not really that interested in what's on the outside when there is fun to be had bouncing and chewing instead, although it won't be long before we should do it just to be safe.

Do you have an oven thermometer so that you can check the actual temperature? Our oven runs hot by about twenty-five degrees. So when the Wifey's baking stuff she sets the temperature lower. Maybe your oven is the opposite?

Do you have an oven thermometer so that you can check the actual temperature? Our oven runs hot by about twenty-five degrees. So when the Wifey's baking stuff she sets the temperature lower. Maybe your oven is the opposite?
I think it must be. I don't have an oven thermometer, but I think I'll need to buy one.
Congrats!
Oh Noes! This must be rectified ASAP! They should have checked it out before you moved in and replaced it.
Ah well, I'm renting from a private owner and she never even checked it before the previous girl renting and the one before her... She just told me if it looked good enough for me, it was good enough for her. Since I'm paying 320€ of rent where most of the small flats in my town are slightly over 400, I'm not complaining.

Gah, I wasn't feeling too happy this afternoon. I realized I have no idea where my driver's licence is. Not good. It's usually in my wallet, I don't get it... There were some other things too that upset me in the afternoon, but since I can no longer remember quite what they were, it must have not been so bad after all.

They don't really have a great guide on how to play the game, but it is enough to get you to the point where you can safely explore the game. Unfortunately, they do not have much to see if you aren't registered. Just use a dummy e-mail if you just want to look around. The e-mail address doesn't seem to really matter anyway.

Well by the egg of Faranth! There were 11 of us doing the speed dating, and the idea was that at the end you mark on a piece of paper who you might have been interested in, and you get e-mailed their address/phone number only if both parties are interested. I didn't meet anyone of whom I though "oh yes, after four minutes I know she's the one!" but anyway I marked down three names who sort of seemed nice. Apparently they all marked down my name as well since in the e-mail I got were their addies. So possibilities, at any rate.

I didn't meet anyone of whom I though "oh yes, after four minutes I know she's the one!" but anyway I marked down three names who sort of seemed nice. Apparently they all marked down my name as well since in the e-mail I got were their addies. So possibilities, at any rate.
wow  even if it's just three potential new friends :)

Llama, Ghyle, and I know why . . . certainly you should realize . . .:tapfoot: you most of all . . .
Bullbound's potting of Rabble for her not claiming immunity on the page the poem is due was a premature potting. As long as there were still posts available for the page, she had time.
There are storms north of Tulsa.

All the storms are moving east.

Ugh, what an idiot. :irked:
 Our current cats like canned food better, but our first cat preferred dry food.
But I wouldn't feed canned food only no matter what the cat likes. Dry food is better for the teeth. Most likely I'll be feeding both.
Luna gets both. Luna likes both. Luna wants more NOW! Luna needs to go on a diet.
Cherlyn, you shouldn't have said anything. :( If Rabble doesn't want to claim her immunity...:stir:
But until the page has actually passed, you don't pot her. A person has the whole page to get around to either posting a poem or claiming immunity. No one shall be potted before their time.

Cool! If nothing else, perhaps you've made a friend or two. Go slow, be careful, and don't expect more than friendship. If anything develops, then celebrate.

There's a car almost right under my window with a malfunctioning burglar alarm. It goes off periodically, and there's no one near it at all. I'll be PO'd if it keeps doing that through the whole night.

Oh no! Not the dreaded malfunctioning car burglar alarm!
Maybe you can call the landlord or cops or someone and have the car towed or something.

Wolfling is covered head to toe in spots - Doctor ruled out chicken pox and measles and he does not appear to be bothered by them, although he's not quite himself - so I was wondering, anyone want to join me in a game of join the dots?

I sometimes get spots like that- I think its eczema.
I had an attack in my second year of university which was traced back to me being exceedingly stressed (about the time I shouted at someone) and my sister using fabric conditioner at home and residue being left in the machine. That looked like that and my Mum thought it was chicken pox (which I had aged 7) and rushed me over to her doctor (well the nurse at the practice) who said it was eczema.

I've been busy playing a new game I found and had stuff to do.
I'll be on a bit more during the week. Weekends are starting to fill up with social activities. With the job market taking a dive this past week (record amounts of people filing for Unemployment, record amounts of lay-offs, and record gas prices) there are lots of local people my age that are just walking to locations and hanging out. Newspapers are passed around, employers are discussed, and general chit-chat makes for a pleasant time.
Mother has been playing a different game too since she was suffering some RS burnout. It's called Fiesta. Here's a link to the main site, there are other games too. www.outspark.com
Social networking may prove useful, good luck.

I get canned food & dry food. I think it's best to have both. As for treats, I prefer the tartar-control ones. Crunch, Crunch, Crunch!

I went to the women's party last night. Actually tried the speed dating they had at the beginning of it, just for the heck of it. I don't think it amounted to anything (I haven't checked my e-mail yet) but at least it's one thing off my list of things to try before I die.
Met some friends there; they said there were about 800 people there total.
Today was the parade and picnic at the park. It was all good; the weather was sunny at first and then cloudy, but it never rained. Glad you enjoyed it!
Star Pirates (http://www.starpirates.net/register.php?referer=7598) Free to play (pay for extras), browser based game that I've been playing instead of WLTing. They don't really have a great guide on how to play the game, but it is enough to get you to the point where you can safely explore the game. Unfortunately, they do not have much to see if you aren't registered. Just use a dummy e-mail if you just want to look around. The e-mail address doesn't seem to really matter anyway. I'll tell Mother even if she doesn't need another game to distract her from me.

To all who asked, cos I'm too lazy to multiquote right now - Wolfling is spotty all over, even between his toes. Doc said most likely a virus, but could be connected with him teething. The rash isn't bothering him, no itching, just looks messy.

Fifth's disease is caused by a virus - it possibly gives them flu like symptoms and then a rash that doesn't itch - they have it all over and the cheeks are red; since it has made a rash he isn't contagious anymore . . . it is just one of those weird little things to make Mommies pull their hair out . . . :gaah:
