I would like to start teaching Kibby about the different religions of the world. If anyone would like to write what they believe I will have her read it. I would like this to be a learning thing. So that when she is older she can choses what to believe heself. I think that knowladge of the diffrent religions will help teach tolerance. Debate is welcomed. Please do not make it personal.

We may all learn something.

There was quite a lengthy thread on paganism some time ago. Try here (http://www.annemccaffreyfans.org/forum/showthread.php?t=2513&highlight=Paganism) for a pretty good discussion: [

Here's (http://www.annemccaffreyfans.org/forum/showthread.php?t=362) another discussion on Chassidic Judaism that might help.

There are so many different sets (some get so hostile, that I am tempted to call them factions !) of Protestant Christians -
Church of Christ, Methodist, Baptist, Southern Baptist, Christian Churches, Freewill Baptist, etc. . .
Then there are the independent churches Bible churches, Fellowship churches, and such . . .
They all tend to have a difference in interpretation and follow through . . . and with my state being a part of the "Bible Belt" and Tulsa is one of several locations known to be the "Buckle" due to Oral Roberts University and the ministries of Kenneth Hagin and Billy James Hargis (nope, I am not one of their adherrants).
I belong to one of the independent churches - our church structure is based on the book of Acts (NT). The Old Testament is good for real history but we follow the teachings of Jesus. Kinda in a nutshell: it is the WWJD phrase we follow. We also believe in baptism - full dunking; not the sprinkling on the forehead. Most of the kids (over 10) have been baptized. A little background of my little church: TCF (http://www.tulsachristianfellowship.com/AboutUs.dsp) No idea exactly where my bunch falls but I am not that worried about it.

Lutherans believe in the Triune God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). Some say we are Catholic Lite...all the liturgy, half the guilt. We have two sacraments...baptism and communion. We follow the same liturgical patterns of worship as Episcopalians and Catholics, and a very similiar lectionary cycle. We are open minded about many things. We believe the Bible contains truth, but is not the inerrant Word of God. We do not check our brains at the door when we worship. We strive to love God above all, and love our neighbor as ourselves. We believe humans are sinners and saints at the same time. We believe that Christians are best occupied following the Great Commission: feed the hungry, clothe the naked, educate the ignorant, visit the prisoner, and protect the vulnerable. If Christians concentrated on those things, much ill in the world would be healed. My little congregation is also a Reconciling in Christ church, meaning we welcome the GLBT community as fellow children of God and partners in ministry.

There is more, but I wanted to be brief.

Make finding out about different religions, a game, for a child.... and it isn't a serious issue when the child grows up and hears a bunch of people snapping at each other about what's a sin and what isn't.

Why is this in "Fun And Games" ?!

Zarkon, it may be in Fun and Games because Maw might feel it is safer for Kibby in here. This forum tends to be more comfortable, relaxed and less frequented by those who might get mean, nasty and sarcastic.

As Senior Fun & Games host, I decided to let it remain here.

Half the problem with discussing religion is that folks take it SOOOO blasted seriously! If you can't laugh at church, you aren't at church, you're at brainwashing.

Funny story: I asked the pastor how I should prepare for Baptism 14 years ago, and he said, "First you boil the hell out of some water..."

I knew I was in the right place.

that implies I knew a teenager was involved, which I didn't. *grin* some people teach their 10 and younger year olds about the same thing.

OOOOH, better be careful! You just called a teenager a child! Danger, danger!!!!

:rofl2: Yup . . . that is what endeared my little church to me . . . we have a chance to laugh at ourselves and to laugh together . . . We'll have a fun night about every quarter . . . I can tell you first hand God has a sense of humor !

We observe communion too . . . and we do have a loose outline for the service we follow but it can get side tracked :giggle:. . . we have ties to YWAM (Youth With a Mission) and several throughout the country.

Of course God has a sense of humor. Look at the ostrich, platypus, giraffe, and hippopotamus. Then there's the weirdest one of all, humans. We're all God's little, living cartoons.

God has to love stupid people.... there are way too many of them for Him to dislike them.
