I was given a book called DragonPrince by Melanie Rawn a long time ago and I finally decided to read it. I found that it was pretty good and I like it so I bought the other two of the DragonPrince trilogy and have finished them now starting on the next books. Has any one else read any Melanie Rawn?

Yes, I've also read the Dragon Prince trilogy. I thought it was quite nice.
I've heard that many people have liked the Dragon Star trilogy much more, but I haven't gotten around to reading that, since our library doesn't have it and I'd need to buy the books...

Also heard good things about Golden Key, anyone read that? I'm thinking of buying it if I ever see it at the bookstore.

Her fans at her BB seemed to enjoy it, Beisla! I also hear that she is thinking about writing a sequel! :bouncy:

Besides the Dragon Prince books and the Golden key, there is also the "Exiles" trilogy onsisting of "The ruins of Ambrai", "The mageborn traitors" and "The Captal's tower" - which is yet to be published!

The Exiles are without a doubt one of the best fantasy series I have ever read! I'd rate it on par if not slightly better than most other and at least on par with Eddings as far as story telling skill is involved! Glorious book!

Im not quite to the Exiles trilogy yet, but I have just started to read the first book in the Dragon Start books. I am very retentive about reading in cronological order so it might be a while before I get to them. It seems that hear lately I have going through books like crazy. Its funny, I had DragonPrince for at least a year or more and never really knew what it was about or had the gumtion to read it and I find it very interesting.

Oh and one thing would somebody help me remember the Author of The Ultimate Hitchhickers Guide to the Universe and the books in that series. Im having a brain fart right now to who that is and I remember talking to someone about it while back.

Douglas Adams. :) There's a thread at the bottom of this page if you're looking for it.

I've read both the Dragon Prince and Dragonstar trilogies and enjoyed them very much, especially on a second and third read, and have just reread the Exiles pair. The depth of detail in the Exiles books is astounding and having the women dominant over the men really makes you look at how our world works now. I wish she would write the third one - I want to find out who Collan's family was!

I liked the first Dragon Prince Trilogy but not Dragon Star so much. I keep meaning to read the Golden Key as I think it sounds really interesting.

Love her books, she's great at bringing you into characters minds and hearts. My favorite book is book 1 of Exiles, I've reread it about a dozen times and I've had it for maybe 2 years ;) I'm just itching for Captal's Tower to finally be finished and published! Of the two Dragon trilogies I prefer Dragonprince... at least after my first readings. I was attempted a reread but new books have distracted me. I just bought The Chronicles Narnia which I've always wanted to read and I have some Eddings on the way for my birthday :)

I have just finished with Skybowl and now have to get the Exiles, but I love them. I especially like Rawn's unpredictability and how nothing in her world really seems like it goes the right way. It always seemes to go wrong, I like that. Plus Rawn has some very realistic character development and no one is perfect and even the bad guys have some good aspects. I love her realistic writing.

According to her website and Locus (Scifi review magazine), Melanie Rawn just sold her latest book to Tor. The title is Spellbinder and is a tale of modern day witchcraft. She started working on the Captal's Tower in January 2004, but she says it takes her 18 months to 5 years to write a book. Hope it's only 18 months. :2cent:

I loved her two dragon trilogies, but the Exiles are my favorite. I swear I've been waiting through six years of college for the Captal's Tower. Bloody Hell, I'm really to read that book. I don't think Collan is dead. He blasted well better not be, he's my absolute favorite. Redhead, sexy, musician, what else could a harpergal ask for.

My same thoughts exactly. I loved Collan, especially the pair he and Sarah made. It was such a shame that he died.

The first chapter of Melanie's new book, Spellbinder, is up at Chapter feeds. It will be out next month and is about a modern witch in NYC. It looks really good. Here's the link http://www.chapterfeeds.com/chapterfeeds/2006/08/spellbinder_by_.html

There's also a chapter for Kate Elliot's new book, Spirit Gate. There's a link at the top of Melanie's page.

Not really spoilers. Just the first chapter. Made me even more anxious to read it. Not until next month. Sigh.

Supposedly, she's been working on the Captal's Tower for about a year and a half now. But she said on her website that it could take 5 years. Hope not.

Well, it's already been, what, ten?

[At least there's someone out there writing slower than me...]

Huh. I don't think she started yet. Last news from her website said that she's devoting all her attention to Spellbinder and the following book tour, after which she'll decide what to do.

Spellbinder is out and I've got it. So far, it's pretty good. About a witch in New York in modern times. Also, more erotica than is usual for Melanie.

Have you visited her website? There are a number of people on this board who have anxiously been awaiting Captal's Tower, :sigh: Me among them. The Exiles books were so much better than her Spellbinder. But paranormal romance is what is selling these days. However, I'll read anything she writes.
