I've just reserved a room at the Marriot for Dragoncon. So if anyone needs a room, we've got space for 2 more people still. We've got the room for 5 nights leaving on the 6th. Email me directly to let me know if you need/want a room and are going for sure. Thanks.

I'm interested! I've PM'd you, Nenwen. :D

Must organise flights ... cheapest quote so far is £434!

I've booked a room at the Hyatt, and I, too, am looking for a roommate. It's a two-twin, no-smoking room. I'll be arriving on September 1st and leaving September 5th; basically, I'll foot the bill for two nights if my roommate can foot the bill for the other two. Right now, I'm staying at the reduced rate of $146 (I think) a night.

I'm really a very tolerable roommate-- I try to keep things clean, I'm pretty quiet, and I don't mind if you want to stay up until an insane hour (in fact, I prefer it) but will keep it down if you prefer to turn in early. I'm not exactly modest about changing clothes in the middle of the room, but if that sort of thing makes you uncomfortable just let me know and I'll change in the bathroom instead. Sometimes I talk in my sleep, but I'm pretty sure I don't snore.

My only requirements for a roommate are that you shower once a day (I mean it (http://annemccaffreyfans.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3787). I don't want to smell you when I come in from a long day of staring at the inside of the Weyrfest room), that you please be respectful if I want/need to turn in early, and that you flush the toilet when you're done. ;> At the moment, I'm only interested in female roommates, but if desperate times call for desperate measures, I'll be flexible accordingly.

Unfortunately the later you book the more expensive it is :( We booked direct with Continental Airlines at the end of January & paid under £250 return (Manchester to Atlanta). The same flight now is over £400.

I know ... my friend also booked in January and got her flights from London for £272. Unfortunately, I wasn't sure then whether I'd be able to make it or not. I'd bought my D*C ticket but on the grounds that if I couldn't go, it wasn't that big a loss, financially. Now that I've finally sorted out attending, I can book a flight ... but I've definitely missed the best deals.

I'm trying other alternatives (like a cheaper flight to a major US airport, then picking up an internal flight), but for a flight from Glasgow with only one connection, this looks like the best price so far. *sigh*

On the positive side, at least I'm going! :)

They're the official Dragon*Con airline, and give a 5% discount (with another 5% if you book 60 days or more ahead of time) for domestic flights for D*C goers -- that wouldn't help you from Scotland, but maybe once you actually got here?

Oooh, thanks, Cavatica! I didn't know about the discount ... it would come in handy if I managed to get a cheaper international flight to the States. I'll try a few combinations later on and see what comes up!

:good: Many thanks!

Btw ... I'd be interested in your offer of rooming, but I'm not planning on leaving till the 6th. Sorry, but Nenwen's dates fit better with mine.

--Well, you know, now that I look at the Orbitz prices again, Delta's flat rate is $178 and United Airlines' is $148. Even if you called Delta directly to get the full 10% discount (rather than forking over an additonal $25 for taxes and Orbitz fees), that's still $160.20 vs. $148 (before taxes).

Hm.

Might be more advantageous for me to just fly UA this year.

Don't worry about the roommate thing, Kerianth. :> I appreciate the gesture, though.

Funny how discounts sound good - till you check out the competition! I'll look at United Airlines, definitely. ;)

And you're welcome, Cavatica! Thanks again for the flight information.

if you can travel on middle of the week days (wed are best) you might be able to find something cheaper..

it took some playing around but i managed to find a return flight a few months ago for £250 .. departing manchester changing at newark.

if you look only at direct flights you tend to get expensive prices ... try and be so flexible that your outside the box ...

you may even find it cheaper to fly to france first and then onto atlanta...

Thanks H, I am planning to travel on the Wednesday and I don't mind a bit of travelling within the UK too to get to a cheaper airport - though Manchester's about as far south as I'd like to go!

I'll check out the route you recommend ... and also look at flying via France. :ok: I just need to sit down, spend a few hours online and get this booked!

I've got a room at the Marriott. Heard it was quieter than the Hyatt and easier to get around - more elevators, etc. If you want to cancel your room Cavatica you can stay with me. Up to you, hon. :) You just sounded like a good person to room with. Ya'll let me know if you want to stay w/me.
