Here's a nice long-runner to keep the Multi-Media forum busy. State what film you watched most recently and, if you want, describe it or say what you thought of it.
Last night, I saw Dark City on TV. It's a sci-fi film starring Rufus Sewell and Jeniffer Connelly, and it's not half bad, if it weren't for the fact that it reminded me of so many other films. Just off the top of my head, the plot had a lot to do with The Matrix, the setting rather reminded me of Brazil and the dark look of the characters was more than a little reminiscent of Sleepy Hollow or Edward Scissorhands.

I didn't like Dark City the first time I saw it, but for some reason I watched it again with someone else and liked it - go figure!!
I am currently watching The Abyss and the last few movies or mosts of movies I've seen in the last 2 days or so are; Parent Trap: Hawaiian Honeymoon, Harold and Kumar go to White Castle (man I so can't wait for the sequel to /that/ movie!!) Chronicles of Riddick, Wimbledon, Peter Pan and Dumb and Dumberer (note, I didn't watch all of all of those movies! But most  )

I watched The Lathe of Heaven. It was the original made by PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) in the U.S. in 1979. (Well around 1979 anyway.)
After the original broadcast, it was not permitted to be shown again for some reason. Anyway, the DVD also had a very interesting interview. Bill Moyers interviewed Ursula K. Le Guin for the DVD release.

The last movie I was was The Clearing, with Robert Redford and Willem Dafoe. It wasn't anything spectacular, but I really liked it, and had a real surprise ending. The one before that was Harold and Kumar go to White Castle. Oh geez, I was sorry I spent $4.50 on that. The previews looked sort of funny, but the entire movie I was watching thinking, ok, when is the actual movie going to begin?? I almost shut it off when it came to the cheetah part

We saw The Pacifier as well and really enjoyed it. Great movie for the family. Vin did a pretty decent job of playing a fish (or should that be frog :D ) out of water. The look when he saw the mini van.
I liked it a lot more than Kindergarden Cop. They kept the entire movie kid friendly and didn't throw in a lot of violence at the end to let the hero show off and save the day.

The last movie I watched in the theater was The Incredibles last November (I don't see movies in the theater much). I thought the movie was really good and held up Pixar's great reputation for excellent movies.
The last movie I saw on video was Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Today I watched Alien 3, it's one I haven't actually seen before!! I never watched them before because they were just never on and I wouldn't watch the 2nd without watching the 1st etc, though I think I did see a fair bit of ressurrection or whatever it is, and over the last few months have seen the 1st 3 :D
Going on sale on Thursday again after being sold out before xmas /finally/ is the LotR extended edition trilogy and it's $30 than before so I'm going to buy it :bouncy: I never bought the 3rd extended by itsdelf because I wanted the set so I will finally be able to see the ext ed of ther RotK at long last!! :D Have seen the other 2 though thankfully!

I liked this film! It's a different take on the types of love one can have in one's life...This woman is just divorced and goes to Tuscanny to clear her head. While there, she wishes for a wedding and a family in her house...and gets it, but not in the way she expected! A lovely film!

I watched Return of the Jedi last night on TV. It was the version with new special effects, but with the original actor as Anakin Skywalker at the end (FYI Sebastian Shaw, David Prowse was just the guy inside the Darth Vader suit). The only change to the originals I really hated was the way Shaw was replaced by Hayden Christensen on the box set dvd. I was feeling a bit down, but when that came on I cheered up. I'm really going to have to buy the box set for myself... I borrowed it from a friend a while ago, and during the month I had it, I watched the movies 3 times, and during that period we also saw A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and on another channel, Phantom Menace. I wonder if Lucas is letting TV's show those for a lower fee if they do it just before the Episode III premiere in May? TV channels all over the world seem to be showing them now.

The last film I saw was Proof of Life (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0228750/) . A film with Russell Crowe and Meg Ryan.
Plot Outline: Alice hires a professional negotiator to obtain the release of her engineer husband, who has been kidnapped by anti-government guerrillas in South America.

BUT, I watched "Finding Neverland" on DVD Friday night. Besides the fact that Johnny Depp was lovely to watch, it was an excellent movie. The child who played the boy Peter practically stole the movie IMO. Keep some tissues handy. :ok:

*smirks* Last night...I rewatched all of 'Pete's Dragon' for the first time in about 15 years. And I admit, I couldn't help comparing Elliot to various other dragons out there (Pern, medieval european, etc)...though especially comparisons to Pern dragons came to mind. *chuckles* Invisibility seems to be a good dragon trait! Too bad more don't have it.
I also hadn't even *realized* that Red Buttons was in that film! (last time I saw it I was too young to know who Red Buttons *was*). So I thoroughly enjoyed myself rediscovering it.
For *new* movies, the most recent was 'Ray.' It was a heartbreaker! But Jamie Foxx did *SUCH* a good portrayal of Ray Charles! It was a deeply moving film. It was also nice to see Warwick Davis acting in a role that allowed for regular human clothing (as opposed to Nelwin, Ewok, strange Hogwarts' professors, etc).

*nods* Though Red Buttons fits him so well! The things I've seen him in that I loved were Pete's Dragon (obviously) Hatari (with John Wayne. They catch African animals for zoos...back when this was acceptable practice. Romantic comedy at times), and he voiced Robespierre (small black kitten sidekick) in the animated movie Gay Purree (also starring Judy Garland). All of these I recommend unless someone has a distinct hatred of any particular genre. I will note that Hatari is probably the best John Wayne movie I've seen. The women get the better of him a few times. *chuckles* And it's not a traditional 'western.'

I LOVED that movie! I watched Saved lastnight, with Macaulay Culkin (and I have to say, I'm glad he is making movies again!) and Mandy Moore, I don't know who the main chick was though. It was very much into religion and prayer to start off with - and it was funny at the same time, I rather enjoyed the movie. The main girl finds out her bf is gay and she thinks jesus tells her to help him, by having sex with him, to try and turn him to the right path, and she ends up getting pregnant. A good watch!

Last night I saw The Hunchback of Notre Dame (http://imdb.com/title/tt0014142/), my second ever silent movie (after Metropolis).
I knew that it had to work extra-hard to get past the technology limitations when viewed by a modern person like me, but it did okay. I was moderately impressed with the acting and pace, and the score. The only problem was that the characters were a bit 2D, with little acknowledgement of moral relativity or internal justifications for seemingly unpleasant acts. It always disappoints me when the "goodies" are good because they're the goodies, and win because they're the goodies, and vice versa for the "baddies".

Just finnished watching Star Wars II: Attack of the Clones. I very much regret missing out on seeing this film for 3 years! It is SO much better than Episode I. It could have been improved and explained better if the deleted scenes had been kept in though. It was a long movie already, but what's 15 more minutes? Nearly all the deleted scenes were character driven, and they chopped that out in favor of action *sigh*

Saw Legalese a couple of nights ago. It seems to have been a TV movie, and I watched it solely for Melissa-Joan Parker. She's not that well known because she does most of her work on stage, but she's had strong supporting roles in several films, and an ongoing run in TV's The West Wing, where I first noticed her. I love the fact that everything she does has has multiple levels to it: when she smiles, there'll be an undercurrent of mischief, or confusion, or she'll be angry but with a touch of sadness.
Oh yeah, and I'd also really like to go out with her.

Interesting. I thought it sucked. Okay, the singers were not bad, but I had no sympathy for any of the characters, especially the Phantom. I just kept thinking "How bad can it be if he only needs that tiny little mask to hide it? And he's pretty handsome otherwise." And _nobody_ picked up on it! Also, every time they burst into song, their voices suddenly got three times as loud and much more echoy. How can a voice suddenly develop masses of echo, when standing in exactly the same spot?

I've found that when critics don't like a movie, it's a "must see" for me and I almost always like it.
So you like Gigli?
Last night I saw another movie from my cult horror box-set: Carnival of Souls. It has a couple of good moments, but on the whole it was very much second-rate. It looked to me like the low-budget first movie of a director who would later be quite good. I'll have to check up to see if it is.
Over the weekend, I also saw Kingdom of Heaven (in the cinema, of course) and American Graffiti (on TV).
The former impressed me. I thought it was good, but not as good as Gladiator; at times the sentiments were a bit anachronistic, but it was especially interesting on an educational level. I watched it with a friend who has studied this period of history in uni, and he says the succession of events is pretty accurate, as far as he knows. If anyone wants to go and see it, I would encourage them.
The latter movie I did not like at all, largely because I didn't care what happened to the characters. Maybe I'm from the wrong generation, or the wrong part of society, but I had no sympathy for anything they did or felt, which is pretty much essential in that kind of rite-of-passage story. The only real redeeming feature is the great soundtrack, full of early 60s rock 'n roll. George Lucas may have gone on to Star Wars, but I see nothing in common between them and this movie.

Hmm, had to keep my DVDs a day over when they were supposed to go back because of the power cut, but I watched Ella Enchanted, which is pretty cool, and rather funny :D I also saw Bride and Prejudice, which was actually pretty cool too, but I had to watch it in a weird way (with a lady doing a voiceover of what everyone was doing when there was no talking - turns out one of the speakers cords had come out of the back, the centre one, and I could hear all the other sounds, but not the voices/talking  but we got it fixed anyways - the tv is in front of the window and the puppies like to race behind there when someone visits, or the neighbour's cat is out there teasing them)
Aaaanyways, it's so cool seeing Martin Henderson (kiwi actor) doing other movies, like Torque (though I've not seen that and have heard it's crud), The Ring, and stuff.

I won't reveal any of the plot, as it's a bit intricate and it may spoil the impact if you don't have to work it out for yourself. Suffice to say it's one of those movies that messes with your head a bit, like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind but, in this case, with a rather more Stephen King feel to it. I stayed up until 2:50 a.m. last night (or this morning, depending on how you look at it) to watch Kevin Smith's Chasing Amy, and I was actually very impressed. People vilify Ben Affleck in general, but I still think he does good comedy, and in this film the romance worked as well, unlike Jersey Girl, for instance. It was funny, and touching and, above all, convincing. Jay and Silent Bob also did not grate as much as they have in other Kevin Smith films I've seen, possibly because they only had a short piece late on.

i saw Crash this weekend.
I thought it was.. interesting. They gave Sandra Bullock top billing and i believe she had maybe 10-15 minutes of screen time. I guess they just wanted her name in the flick.
As to what i thought of the movie, i found the pace rather slow and the subject very annoying. (one of my pet peeves is prejudice and thats what the whole movie revolved around, but had it to such extremism that it really just ticked me off.. i'm sure it could be like that in LA, but to me it's like nails on a chalkboard).
The movie was artistically done. It tells several different stories, but then they all come together in the end with a "ohhh" moment.
All in all..if it's something you'd want to see, i'd say..wait til video, but don't pass it over completely.

That was the prequel to Snatch (Brad Pitt!! :heartbeat ). SOme of the characters cross over. And you are right about the plot.
Oh, they were talking about Snatch too but I didn't realize it was a sequel. Yay!! :bouncy: Now I have something else to watch. I love british humor. (at least I assume it's authentic british humor, correct me if I'm wrong please...)

Oh, it's definitely British humour. I knew Snatch and Lock-Stock were from the same director (Mr. Madonna, unless I'm mistaken), but I didn't realize it was actually a sequel. One of these days I'll get around to watching Snatch. I thought the range of characters in Lock-Stock was especially good and especially amusing. :)
Last night, I saw A Fistfull of Dynamite, described as the last of the "spaghetti westerns" from director Sergio Leone. It had all of the style of the earlier woks, and an interesting plot well acted. My biggest problem was with the soundtrack, which had some backing singers going "Shom Shom Shom" over and over again for large sections. I thought better of Ennio Morricone.
Before that, I watched Father of the Bride, and found it to be great light entertainment, a nice and undemanding hangover cure. :shhh: :ouch: :wine:

I saw Madagascar on Friday... Eh, overall it was pretty bad, but it had moments. I love the penguins, and those chimps. And that stupid song the lemurs sing that gets stuck in your head... "I like to move it move it..."
And yesterday I saw the new Star Wars. Blech. Don't see it. It's pretty awful.

All but the climax of Sith. Had to go to the loo in the middle of the Obi-wan - Darth Vader battle, after having sat through about an hour's agony. So I got less out of the movie than might be expected. However, it did blow the two other prequels right out of the water, and I'll definitely rent the DVD, even if I don't buy it.

Definite SPOILERS below
You could fill a couple of threads with all the theories as to what Donnie Darko is actually about. I reckon he's just looking through the tunnel to the future, and as he changes it (having seen it), his past self views the new, adjusted reality through the tunnel. Hence, the decision as to the shape of the future ultimately rests with him.
Or something.

Yesterday I recieved my Stargate Ultimate Edition Extended Cut in the mail. On Thursday, I saw The Birdcage. It's a remake of the classic French film La Cage aux Folles, which could be reasonably described as the original French farce. It starred Robin Williams, Nathan Lane and Gene Hackman, and it was pretty good. The film was probably stolen by Lane, as a flamboyant drag queen, although the others support well. It also contains a hilariously prescient line about John Major (the film was made in '96, so they could not have known about him and Edwina Currie, surely).

I saw it with a guy who has studied the Crusades in general at uni (although not very specifically), and he said that it is pretty accurate, as far as he can tell. His only query was about what the main female character did at the end of the film.

The last movie I watched was Equilibrium. It's definitely Matrix-inspired, and while it's not as good as The Matrix, I think it's better than either sequel. I think it's the only movie I've seen with Christian Bale, and his performance as Cleric Preston makes me more interested in seeing the new Batman movie. Also, it has 17 minutes and 48 seconds of Sean Bean dressed all in black, which would have had me watching it earlier if I had known.
And speaking of Viggo Mortensen: I rewatched G.I. Jane in some Memorial Day cable movie marathon and realized that he was the master chief in charge of training. Very interesting role. Demi Moore had to focus on being strong and capable, while he got to play a more ambivalent character.

How about you give a short description ofthe movie for those who haven't seen it? Unless it's something like Star Wars 3.
The last movie I saw in the theater was Fever Pitch, with Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon - she falls for him not knowing he's a Red Sox fan - and I mean a FANATIC!!! She only finds out when she sees him on TV painted up for Spring Training! She's a workaholic, and the movie is about trying to find a balance - and the ending was so sweet!!! It's a great romantic comedy - we were laughing the whole time - and you really care about them and hope they get together!
I like that they had to rewrite the plot a little when the Red Sox started winning games last season!!!
I've been renting a lot of videos - most recently the original Singin' in the Rain - I love that musical! and Disney's Anne of Green Gables. The first time I saw that I hadn't read the book; now that I have it's even more enjoyable! A good family movie, especially for kids with really big imaginations! (Maybe not the boys so much... :erm: )

I watched 'The Core' last night. About when the core of the earth stops spinning and causes the EM shield around the planet to deteriorate and leaves it vulnerable to all the sun's harmful rays etc. So they get a ship with nukes in it to 'jump start' the core of the planet and get it spinning again. SO campy, but surprisingly enjoyable :D

I finally got ahold of a rental of To Kill a Mockingbird. It did a pretty good job of adapting from the novel, but of course it can't beat it ;) But the most important part, the last speech of Atticus Finch before the Court Verdict, Gregory Peck got that part down to perfection.

Anthony DeLongis worked on that movie!:applause: he played the opponent in the sword fight and also coordinated much of the fight scenes in the whole movie, including the swordfight scene.
At a seminar in New Jersey in January 2004, I was one of many who got the chance to learn the elements of that sword fight scene and put it all together into one solid fight. He also taught whipcracking that weekend.

I watched Man on Fire tonight, it was pretty good too, and I didn't realise it was a true story until the end!
Oh yeah and we watched Spanglish the other day, it was quite funny in places, but am not sure if I like the ending or not *wrinkles up nose* I think it was a bit of a dumb way to tell a story, as a girl who was writing a university application telling the story of her mother to say at the end of it all, that she is her mother's daughter and getting in or not getting into the university would not make who she is

I watched Barraka (sp?) over at my Aunt and Uncles house last night. It's not a conventional movie though. I think it was originally made for Imax theatres and it's just a bunch of pictures (from 24 countries on 6 continents I think) with background music. Parts are funny and parts are just really, really sad. It makes you think that's for sure.

I watched Rabbit-Proof Fence last night - a movie from an amazing true story about three half-aborigine girls who are taken from their mother to protect them from becoming aborigines, and run away from the school they are taken to, travel over 1200 miles to get back home. Really inspiring, really sad.
Then for an uplift I watched The Importance of Being Earnest - it's so funny, and the music and characters are so perfect! Especially Judi Dench as Lady Bracknell!!!

Empire Records - I am SO glad I rented that :bouncy: (sorry for the huge write-up but I LOVE this movie)
It begins with the sort of predictable premise and line of events of a few quirky kids' jobs at stake as their 'Empire Records' store is about to be turned into a 'Music Town' with the rigid policy of NO revealing dress, tatoos or piercings, pretty much meaning all of them are kaputski. But many elements of this movie take a swerve from the norm and are ANYTHING but predictable, with some really memorable characters and serious moments. It doesn't bog itself down with cheesy mushy romantic wub junk, that part wraps up in roughly 3 minutes, but at least it has its own STYLE in it (though theres a real doozie line in that scene ) Some situations border or even cross into the realm of total silliness, but the good thing is that this is unique, it doesn't fit in with the usual teen comedy stuff, for the most part it just lets it be itself. And it just loves MUSIC, this has so much great stuff from the mid-90's and earlier, a clear and enjoyable undertone of the whole movie. Any film that includes 'Vidio Killed the Radio Star' definately goes into my lists!
This movie has all that and, uh....... LIV TYLER!!! :inlove: :heartbeat :whee:
