View Full Version : Things actors can't do

Actors in general impress me - I'm easily impressed too, especially the way some of them can do other accents so well!
I like a lot of cheap movies where things don't look real etc etc, my flat mate used to get so pissed off at me cuz he'd ask me if a movie was good and I'd say yep, almost every time, in the end he'd still ask me, but then realise who he was talking to and either yell or mutter at himself or me

One thing I've noticed that actors can't do, is blush on cue! cracks me up when a guy says to a girl, 'you're blushing' and she's like 'am I' and she isn't!!

Yeah, that's one that I've noticed too. Some actors can't seem to laugh convincingly.

One thing I always look for in scary/spooky movies is how well female victims scream. Many are just not good screamers. Some are downright pitiful. I'm rather glad that in some horror movies these days they have the womenfolk fight the evil bad guys. They probably aren't good screamers.

And whenever you see a little tear well up and roll slowing down a cheek, I always think oh yes, onions

or in the case of some actors .... a timley nostril hair plucking ....

Some can do it spontaneously, though. Blushing on cue would be hard, if not impossible. However, today it should be relatively easy to add a bit of blush afterwards.

MOst of todays actors can't sing or dance... there are movies in the last 20 years where, if a character had to sing, it was dubbed by a professional singer.

Some cant even act *cough*orlandobloom*cough*

As an actor, I can say, blushing is impossible on cue. Laughing realisticly is extremely difficult, and I personally am not so great at welling up tears. (I think they use eyedrops, not onions ;) )

Orli has a few things to learn when it comes to acting. Such as new facial expressions! I've only seen him in LotR and Troy, but the expressions were the same. He's very athletic, though. Good with bow and arrow for real, not just digital fakes, and the scene in Helm's Deep when he uses an orc shield to surf down the staircase, that's him doing it. Many actors do as many stunts as the movie insurers will permit. It gives the director more freedom to film them in closeup.

I'm actually surprised by how many actors can and do sing themselves...

As long as the actors get laughter to look right, they can always fix the sound in post-production sound recording (as much as 98 % of The Two Towers dialog was put there afterwards, the on-set recording wasn't good enough), or even record them laughing genuinely off camera if they're lucky.

Robert De Niro can't cry on demand. Yes, he's one of the greatest living actors, with a great emotional range, but have you ever seen him shed a tear?
It often surprises me how well actors can be taught to do martial arts these days. I suscpect that neither Carrie-Anne Moss nor Keanu Reeves, nor Laurence Fishburne had had any training before they were cast in The Matrix...

actually, I can blush on cue...it's the only time I do.

But not that it matters since I'm no actress :erm:

I don't think actors act death, dying or resucitation very well... It's never easy, clean and sterile as in many movies... It's unpleasant at best!

So we're including child-movie actors now? :) Cool. I will point out that at this point you're also talking about (just for the sake of pointing this out) 2 high-schoolers with very little previous experience who are acting in a kid's movie. As much as Harry Potter is popular... the characters were meant to appeal to the younger crowds (and those who have grown up FROM the younger crowd), and therefore a different acting expectation is required. And they're at least as good (if not frankly much better) than about 90% of what's on the disney channel, and pretty much ANYTHING live action on Nickelodeon in the past 5 (possibly more) years.

Certainly they're better than a very large portion of the children's actors/movies/tv shows out there (anyone wanna claim acting ability for Barney or the Wiggles or the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers? *cringe*)

Aria (just adding a little flare to the discussion. ;) call me the devil's advo-cat if you willl!)
