i'm a bit hesitant about this, as i'm not sure how anyone could play the part of freddy!
On another note has anyone heard or seen the video for the new electric 6 track radio ga ga? - i'm not sure what to think about that one either

What?!
Oldrider is a huge fan (I'm a small fan ;) ), but I'm not sure about this.... just as I wasn't sure when INXS reformed....

But. . . but Freddy Mercury was Queen. How can it be Queen without him?

Maybe they should call it Princess?
Or Queenlike?
Or AfterQueen?
Or..............

It could never be the same without Freddy. But they can try if they like!

I must admit I have serious reservations about this one; Paul Rodgers has a great voice, for the bluesy rock that Free & Bad Company did, but it's not the voice for Queen's music. Added to that, he's not known for his stage presence, whereas Freddie was one of the greatest showmen rock has ever seen. One preson who impressed me with his version of "Somebody to Love" at the Mercury tribute concert was George Michael, though I guess he's too busy with his own career these days. Another was Gary Cherrone from Extreme, who probably isn't too busy, though surely the ideal choice would be Justin Hawkins of The Darkness!!
On the other hand, at least with Paul fronting them, no-one could accuse them of becoming a Queen tribute band ;)

Has no one else seen the Electric 6 Music Video for Radio Ga Ga then apart from me ?
Please don't tell me i'm the only one here, i'm begining to feel like a recluse who sits watching Music Television all Morning !!!!!!

I showed this to my son as he is more up to date on the new music scene than I am and he was very surprised. He said that he thought Robby Williams was their new front man since "A Knights Tale"

Can't say I really like the man, but I have to admit Robbie Williams is probably the only other person who's enough of a showman to fill Freddie's shoes (after Justin Hawkins ;) ), and he's got the voice to go with it, there doesn't seem to be any style he can't sing.

i admit justin hawkins has the flair ... (if not the look ;) )
and i do think robbie has the talent to carry himself thru a show with queen ....
but i don't think either would have all it takes to fill the mercury shoe's ...
But a show featuring all of the above .... hmmm :darkside:

NOONE can replace Freddie Mercury!
In the artical, May said something about "Queen's Phoenix".... maybe they could call the new band THAT... but I agree Rodgers really doesn't do the same style of music Queen is famous for. His voice just doesn't seem suited for it.

I've seen the Electric Six Video H! You are not having a singular hallucination! Personally, I like it, though it took me a few watches to decide this! They haven't completely obliterated the track and I think it's more of a tongue in cheek homage to Freddie rather than an offense!
Not sure who this new singer is personally so no comments on his ability to perform with Queen! I'm of the ideal that, having lost their front man, they shouldn't try to re-form really. The voice so often makes the group, though not in every case I hasten to add!

Oh, no. Freddie Mercury was Queen for me. I like The Darkness, but Justin's voice isn't a patch on Freddie's... Not really a fan of Robbie Williams, but he might just be able to pull it off.

i've seen it a few times now aswell and i must say its growing on me ... slowly, but it is growing on me!
its definetly a tongue in cheek homage to freddy, but then is there any other way that would be more suitable, think back on some of freddy's best performances .... he was very over the top :D and thats what made queen, queen !

just heard it again just now, along with 2 other tracks by the same group ... i don't think the lead singer (whoever he is) has anywhere the vocal range to make it very far with the queen back catalogue ... :box:

Hmmm, the thought of anyone being able to do a credible Freddy and I think that only Robbie Williams could carry off a whole show.
Haven't see the Electric Six number, but wouldn't that make them almost DRAG Queen? :D

No one will ever replace Freddy that was proved at the 1992 tribute concert. I don't think they should even try to replace him, but then who are we to say what the remaining members do with the songs. As it looks increasingly likely that John Deacon will not be joining the tour they will have to find a new bass player as well so it will only be half the band on tour and in my opinion the tour cannot be called a Queen tour.

another thing i don't think any of us have considered!
are they going to be performing "just" classic queen tracks, or are they working on all new material so as to start on a fresh canvass as it were ?
also i had read that j deacon had retired ? is that the case or not ???

Hmm :faint: :sssst: No I don't think so no one exept possibly George Michael can replace Freddie Mercury. But if they are thinking of new songs and different perfomances .Why not.........................
