To start a thread about this fantastic author I thought I'd post something I found on www.mugglenet.com:

The welcome letter on Rowling's website recently (a few days ago) went from
"...where I can give you hints and clues about what's going to happen to Harry next, and where I can announce I've finished book six... and no, that's not going to happen very soon."
to
"...where I can give you hints and clues about what's going to happen to Harry next, and where I can announce I've finished book seven... and no, that's not going to happen very soon."

So perhaps we can expect a release date for the sixth book very soon, maybe even as a Christmas present if Jo's very nice! :D :hopping: :bouncy:

Well, it turns out we won't have to wait until Christmas! :D The release date for the HBP will be told... in 24 hours!! :bouncy: :hopping:

I live just a few blocks from a large Scholastic complex (Scholastic is the US Publisher/Distributor for the Harry Potter books). It's interesting to see the increased security around their buildings just prior to a new release.

everytime a new book in a series comes out, i find myself quickly rereading all of the preceding books :D

it will be no different with the new HP book ;) just gotta plan on when to start in order for there to be as little time between the last book and when i can read the new one !!! :D

But better a bit too much in this case, because I'm certainly going to read the new HP as soon as I get my hands on it regardless of whether I've finished rereading book five! :bouncy:

Thinking of rereading the old ones makes waiting a bit easier for me, since I can think of the time when I start reading the old ones instead of when the new one comes out. :ok:

Am trying to decide whether to watch the films or re-read the books in preparation for July ;)

It's definitely July 16! It's even on Amazon.com!!!

So, let's all be honest, how many times has everyone seen the movies? And who owns them, PLUS every book in the series?

*raises hand for second part*

And the movies... well... at least, and I mean at LEAST, 4 times each, not to mention a few times in theaters (my friend works at a theater... I get in free!! :bouncy: :bouncy: :bouncy: :bouncy: )

I own all five books in hardback and all three movies on DVD - not sure how many times i've watched them though.

Beisla
4th January 2005, 06:40 PM
I own the first two movies, seen them two or three times. I've only seen the third one once and don't own it yet, but I might buy/get it.

I own all the books except for the first one. I've been using my sister's copies but when I decided to buy my own, I wanted the best cover art I could find. books 1-4 (http://www.mugglenet.com/pics/adultcovers.shtml); OotP (http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P/0747569401.02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg) (Yes, I'm a sucker for good cover art: I even gave my sister my hardback copy of OotP since she didn't have it, in favor of the cool-looking one I bought. :D) I haven't been able to locate the first book with the nice cover yet.

I've read the books maybe three times on average. (First ones more often.)

I can't wait for the next book to come out, and the title really kind of gets you thinking: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

I'm sure we all know who it CAN'T be... so just WHO is it? :bouncy:

Also, I'm proud to say I own all 5 books (the last two in Hardback and the first three in paperback), all three movies and have watched them... uhm... :erm: .. too many times.

One of each first edition hardcover :D (Took some time to hunt down Chamber of secrets) I had the Philosophers Stone First edition when it first came out :D have been a fan for years. And I have the paperbacks, which get read (The first editions bar Philosophers stone have never been read) I have all the Movies and thanks to my kids, have the vast majority of toys, cards, stickers, comic style thingies.....the list goes on

Have all the current books in hard cover. All three movies, on DVD. My daughter has a stuffed Fluffy she loves, and Hedwig flies around on my purse. Daughter also has a Quiddich robe cover-up that we used to base her halloween costume one year. Maybe this year she'll be Hermione.

I still remember when i found my first Harry Potter book. It was at a book sale at my sibling's elementry school. There it ws sitting on the bottom rack.

I just (last night) finished re-reading all five. I read the first two to my third-graders, and then re-read the rest at home. At our house, we have the count-down on the calendar - July 16 can NOT get here soon enough. I keep thinking that the half-blood prince is going to be Hagrid. I am not sure why, exactly, but for some reason, that thought won't go away. What do you all think? Is it a known character, or someone new?

but i've read in places that JK said there wouldn't be a new charater in the next book who plays a major part.
but the title of the book hasn't always played a major part e.g 'the goblet of fire' wasn't a major part of the book.

40% chance that Harry will hate them
40% chance they're working for Voldemort

80% chance that it's a man

I agree about the titles, they haven't always been very important to the story/series. No one thinks about what happened to the Philosophers(/Sorcerer's) stone, either. There was an editrial on Mugglenet on the subject, but I can't find it.

It DOES give you something to think about - if what jmercury heard is right, then the options are, obviously, limited. Maybe Snape finally gets it? Maybe Dumbledore convinces Moody (or maybe he is too busy with the order at this time)?

Funny...I walked into HP3 with a big thing of pop corn and a coke and sat right at the entrance...my rep is shot...

Now, the adult cover is just plain weird! I honestly think the Half-Blood prince is Snape...lol...or maybe not. Dumbledore is promising. It may be someone new or relatively minute in the last books. Anyone ever thought it could be someone who has gone in the last 5?

I just realized...there's only 2 books left! What will I _ever_ look forward to? :faint:

So, I know I've been so excited about getting to read HP6 before the rest of the world but the more I think about it and the closer it gets to time I've decided I just don't want to risk my job over it. If I got caught I would most likely be fired immediately and that would make me sad. Wouldn't it be an ironic twist of fate if Draco Malfoy was the Half-blood Prince? No one ever said the HBP had to be a good guy! Then the Malfoy's couldn't be so uppity about being pure-bred wizards. Of course, that won't happen, but just entertain the thought.

I saw on Mugglenet a short part from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince that described the Half-Blood Prince. I have a feeling that it isn't an old character. The description that I read only even slightly fits two already existing characters: Mad-eye Moody and Professor Dumbledore. And that's just barely. Yep, I bet that it's a new character, now that I've seen the description.

(He) looked rather like an old lion. There were streaks of grey in his mane of tawny hair and his bushy eyebrows; he had keen yellowish eyes behind a pair of wire-rimmed spectacles and a certain rangy, loping grace even though he walked with a slight limp.

It first appeared on J.K. Rowling's site, behind the secret door. I suppose it refers to the half-blood prince, but we don't really know for sure, since nowhere does it say that.

Maybe it's Mr. Weasley. Maybe the Weasley's find out that they are the only surviving relatives of some really rich Prince and now they're wealthy too. Wouldn't that just stick in Draco's craw. Do we know for sure that "half-blood" means half-muggle?

Do we know for sure that "half-blood" means half-muggle?No, we don't. There's been a lot of speculation about that in the editorials I've been reading. It could e.g. be half giant, couldn't it? I have been wondering about this, too. I keep trying to think back, and there is nothing I can think of - no hints that Petunia is more than she seems to be.... Is there something you've read that has given you that feeling, or is it like mine, just there?

It is not like she's repressing hostility about her sister, but it just seems SO strange that they would be SO horrible to Harry. I would give a pretty pennt to be able to read that first letter Dumbledore left with Harry that night.

Brenda
5th July 2005, 11:03 PM
I can't help wondering if maybe she isn't completely unTalented.

By saying "There's more than meets the eye" I'm referring to her suddenly standing up to her husband and letting Harry stay, when she had always been trying to get rid of them before. So I want to know what was in that letter, and what else she might know. She never told Harry anything about himself or his parents - and what we know might not be all that she knows.

At this point, 10 and 12 year olds are fairly young for the more recent books. One thing that I really like about the series, is that the content is more or less "growing up" with the characters. So, the kids that began with the series at about the same age with the characters are also somewhat in line with the maturity of the books. Much less scary in the first book or two, but definitely getting darker by the 4th and 5th. And no doubt, the 6th will be even darker. They are about 16 or 17 there, right?

How is it that Royal Maiden in Wisconsin has already read the book? See the thread What I am reading now.

Well, I may not get my copy for another 14 and a half hours, BUT, I am only paying £4.99 for it....
Gotta love having kids who get special discount for being under 14!
Sooooooo! At 7am my son and I will rise, have breakfast and a coffee, and be out of the house and at the shop by 7.20-7.30am. After queueing for 30 minutes, when the shop opens at 8am we will fight our way to the book shelf, grab our copy and run to the checkout, pay for our book, and be back in the house by 8.15am :D

You have a right to brag. I was just curious if you had gotten a copy like those people in Canada.

I told my mom about what you said about reading it early because you work at the library, and my mom being the person she is joked around and said to remind her to take up a part-time job at a library when the next HP book comes out.:D Just don't tell us about the plot!

 Dont worry :) I wont say anything until some of the rest of you have had a chance to read it ;) I'll be reading it again once I have my own copy tomorrow. You are going to be so surprised though!

Just because I'm curious, on a scale of 1 to 10, how much did you like it? 1 being 'I hate it' and 10 being 'It's the best in the series'.

Well there are things that I really liked & things that made me quite upset  I thought it was wonderful! I liked it much better than Order of the Pheonix :darkside: All in all I'll give it a 9 :D (I really want to say more but I promised I wouldnt  my mouth is sealed, until later :D)

I think that I would like HBP more than OotP for one reason, because Sirius died in OotP. I'm sure that there was a perfectly good reason for J.K. Rowling killing off Sirius, but I wish that there would have been some way to avoid it.

It's out tomorrow.

In 5 hours, I will be heading to WalMart. It is about 5 minutes away, and I am sure there will be plenty of folks there. It may not be a party, but it will be a party TO ME! Hooray! :bouncy: :bouncy: :bouncy: :bouncy:

Oh, no, it's not that I didn't like it because of that, it's just that I wished it didn't happen. That's actually one of the reasons why I loved it, though, it added depth!
