One of my favorite writers of science fiction, (aside from Ms. McCaffery of course) has been Andre Norton. I have every one of her witchworld books. If I could pick fantasy world to live in, it would be Pern first, :heartbeat Witchworld second, :good: followed closely in third by Xanth (Piers Anthony). :ok:

Knowing that Andre Norton was a good friend of Ms. McCaffery it was doubly sad news to learn that she passed away at the age of 93, on Thursday, March 17th, of this year. :sad:

She will be sorely missed. :noface:

Andrea Norton was a great writer Bridget - I agree, it is a huge loss for book readers the world over - there is a thread about it in the lounge if you haven't seen it! {{{{{{{{{{{{{snugsels}}}}}}}}}}}}}

I was browsing in a used book store today and found a paperback copy, printed in 1979 of Andre Norton's "Star Ka'ats and the Plant People" I think I know who that is going to! :devil: Meow! :disguise:

A great writer I believe she influenced a great many people. She will be sorely missed. Her last book is yet to be released although I believe her publishing house rushed a copy through so she could see it before she died.

Yes, she appearantly loved the cobalt blue cover. I believe it was called THREE HANDS FOR SCORPIO, and is due out in April sometime. At the site I read that she wanted to be cremated with her first and last books, and because of her health the publishers rushed to get a first printing done for her.

i have always meant to read Andre Norton's work, but never have gotten around to it. I must remember next time I'm looking for something to read. (I think that's the problem, I have only come across her books when I
ve had several in line to read)

Two questions for you. Is The Last Planet the only title you have read?
Also do you have a preference between hardcovers, trade paperbacks & paperbacks?
I ask about the preference between books because most of the omnibus reprints I've seen are printed in hardcover first then later as trade paperback or paperback.
You might want to take a look at this site. (http://www.andre-norton.org/)

It is larger in size than the standard paperback & sometimes can be the same size as a hardcover.

Here are a list of recently reprinted titles;
Witch World series
1-3 The Gates Of Witch World (tpb) – collects first three Witch World novels
4-6 Lost Lands Of Witch World (hc) – collects the next three Witch World novels

Beast Master series
1-2 Beast Master’s Planet (hc) - collects The Beast Master & Lord Of Thunder
3 Beast Master's Ark (pb) (with Lyn McConchie)
4 Beast Master's Circus (pb) (with Lyn McConchie)

Time Traders series
1-2 Time Traders (pb) – collects The Time Traders & Galactic Derelict
3-4 Time Traders II (pb) – collects The Defiant Agents & Key Out Of Time
6 Echoes In Time (pb) (with Sherwood Smith)
7 Atlantis Endgame (pb) (with Sherwood Smith)

The Solar Queen (tpb)

Darkness & Dawn (pb) – collects Starman’s Son & No Night Without Stars
Gods & Androids (pb) – collects Android At Arms & Wraiths Of Time
Janus (pb) – Judgement On Janus & Victory On Janus
Star Soldiers (pb) - collects Star Guard & Star Rangers
Warlock (pb) – collects Storm Over Warlock, Ordeal In Otherwhere & Forerunner Foray
Dark Companion (hc) – collects Dark Piper & Dread Companion
Steel Magic (pb)

I am sorry to lhear about andre norton dying this year. Wow at 93 she had a great long life behind her tho. I will always love her books too as well as anne McCaffrey's ones as they were one of the first scifi books I ever read and enjoyed. I salute you definately with respect and love... :rip: :cat2:

Slow as ever, I had no idea she had passed on until I tripped on this thread. The Xanth series was my intro into the grown-up fantasy world. Shortly followed by Anne McCaffrey's Pern books. I don't even know how many books I have read by Norton. It's sad, but she has at least left much for our children to read and enjoy. It always blows my mind to see someone so adept at creating new worlds.

From the list I've only read;
The Beast Master
Lord Of Thunder
Beast Master's Ark
The Time Traders
Galactic Derelict
The Defiant Agents
Key Out Of Time
