Ode to Coffee
Oh lovely little coffee bean, "morning" you have meant
When you are crushed and percolated, you bring such admirable scent
When you are stirred with cream, so sweet, I savor your rich taste
You waken desire to drink so fast, but you must not wish haste
For when you arrive at my tender lips, freshly from your pot
Your caress could burn my tongue, for you are too damned hot!

My Dance
Inside red brick walls where the light is so warm
he quietly sits by his lamp
Appearing so serious, pretending to study
but really he's watching me dance

Beneath black lashes his playful eyes peep
and peer through the frosted pane
A half-hidden smile flirts with his lips
as I whimsically waltz down the lane

The music I sway to and float and sashay to
no one in the world can hear
Anew every winter the White Ball begins
with silence the orchestra plays by ear

His light has gone out, now, sure he's asleep
so into his window I glance
Appearing so peaceful, seeming so still
but really, he's dreaming my dance
