Stargate Atlantis

Sorry but I still don't wanna spoil the new stargate SG1 episodes I haven't seen so want Atlantis in another thread - oh yes, did I mention I'm nitpicky?? :angel:

Atlantis' first episode was on tonight and I only got the last half hour or so of it!! *cries* :cry: it's not fair it's not fair!
Anyways what I wanted to ask was can someone please tell me why the star gates look different (when they hadn't changed in 10 million years before that) and where all this new alien technology came from?

I'm not quie sure on why the designs are different... but there is no 'new' technology, it was all from the Ancients, in their city of Atlantis. It was just newly discovered.

Yep, all the gates in the Pegasus Galaxy have blue chevrons.

I've seen the whole first season, but I promise not to spoil it for ya, Jax! :)

My personal explanation for the new Gate look is that being in the Pegasus galaxy where I presume the ancients were originally from that they were able to upgrade those gates because of proximity to their home base. While those in our galaxy where a bit more difficult to get to easily.

Just a thought.

Then i remembered what the Asgard Gate looked like on their homeworld! :roll:

1)We know the ancients came to our galaxy fleeing the wraith!It could be possible that the Stargate network in our galaxy was built on a simple low maintenance design for longterm low tech use ! they may not have had the recourses to keep a modern (pegasus system) running without the recourses of that galaxy!

or

2)the difference may be down to local building materials! in the pegasus galaxy the gates may not be made from naquadar, whereas in the SG1 (our) galaxy naquadar was the most readily available-suitable material!
