I'm curious! I want to know what your student councils are up to this year. We have time for one last event before I (and the majority of our student's council) have to move on, but I still want to know what you're up to:)

Relay for Life was the last thing ours did...of course our STUCO is compiled of people who won for their popularity. Only a few of them actually care about student government. I just stop running cause there is no real point to ours.

we only run for prez and vp, which is prob a good thing cause then there can be a group of us in the background getting all the work done. It's actually a pretty good system, figure heads for promo stuff then the actual organizers.

The prez is starting to get better and the two of us are able to get stuff done now (or so it seems).

Our student councils are useless. We have one for each year (with President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer), and then one called the "Student Colalition" which is for the entire school. Basically all they do is run pep rallies, do spirit weeks, and make the morning announcements. The class officers do even less. It's pointless, really.

It also just occured to me that we're the only high school I know of that only has junior prom and senior prom- no other dances. Not that I care or would go to them anyway, but it's weird.

We haven't been allowed dances for years either (too many probs with drinking/drugs before hand). But we're trying to think of things other than dances to do.

Getting the dress code to vanish. It seems to be working. :D

We have a similar set up here in Australian schools. Our SRC (Student Representative Council) are just amazing! In the 5 years i have worked at the school i have been amazed at what these kids do... Basically all their effort goes into charity, every school fundraser seems to raise 1000's of dollers for what ever charity they have chosen this time. And they spread the wealth, one time it maybe buying books for Sri Lankan schools after the Tsumami ($6000 worth) the next it might be buying a wheel chair for a 5 year old. They cover them all, big charitys, little charitys, youth foundations, meals on wheels, Red Cross, the Salvo's.

All i can say is i wish every school was as lucky with their SRC as we are...

Coming from a wealthy community we choose to do a lot of charity work also. In our latest fundraising campaign we've raised 11,000 dollars in less than a week. As a senior class we choose to hold a fundraiser for something that means a lot to the community instead of giving a gift to the school. It seems like this fundraisers going to go quite well.

At my old high school student council was a joke, it was just something to put on your college application. Most the time no was even intersted enough to have a real election. I glad it is different at other schools :) .

We don't have a student council here at my Junior High School, that I know of. Maybe I should suggest such a thing to our principal, he's a really good listener. ;) Thanks for the idea!
