View Full Version : How young is young?
JayEgo
22nd April 2005, 10:52 AM
As this is the youth centre, I don't personally spend a lot of time in here. I tend to leave this domain to those who consider themselves 'young'? But am I missing out entirely? Is this for the young or the young at heart?
To discover just who's here, I figured I'd create a poll asking just how old all the forum visitors are... Do enjoy voting, posting and commenting ;)

I guess I'm young at heart, but eek! When did I cross from "young adult" into "old grup" territory?

Apparently when you turned 26!
I guess I'm considered a young adult even though I feel like an "old grup". I'm only twenty-three but when I get around people my age I feel old. Being married with two kids will do that to ya.

Welcome, geishagirl! Hmmmm, I seem to remember a Star Trek, original series episode where the Enterprise sent down a team to a planet where all the adults had died of a disease that only afflicted adults and that it was afflicting the children as they reached puberty and they also died. The planet was run by the kids left from that colony, it was rather like a tamer version of Lord of the Flies. The kids called adults "grups" - their language had gotten changed and shortened from years of not having anyone around to teach them to speak correctly. I've always sworn I'd be an adult (when I have to) but NEVER a grup!! :D That is why I'm Queen of Wild Things!

I voted as being 18, as my b-day is a week sunday. I post here cause this forum seems to be geared towards junior and senior high school students, and the people here have more in common with me than others on this board.

One of my favorite Star Trek episodes! :ok: Young at heart, since I'm in my 40s now. I sure don't feel that old.

I'm 29 and I fluctuate between moods. I feel young when I'm in front of my PS2 :bouncy: and old when I wake at 5 :) in the morning to prepare for work. I feel even much older when that little girl across the street refers to me as "that man"
The thing is, I still do a lot of things I did in my teens (comics, fantasy, comp games, etc). I just don't see why being older means I have to stop the things I enjoy :ok:

20. so, by this defintion 'young adult'. But I find that term offensive...
It seems that from 18-21 odd then we are classed at 'kids' or as 'adults' depending on what the 'older' people in society want from us.
An example of this is in the University education system, where our loan is deoendant on our PARENTS income, yet we are expected to start paying interest on this loan before we have a chance to be able to earn money to pay it off!
The term 'young adult' is just a get out clause. (But I am not offering an alternate :p)

& that reminds me of the other StarTrek(tos) where Kirk, Spock, and McCoy were afflicted by rapid aging--another good one :ok:

24... so technically young adult.... but I tend to have an old soul and a youthful spirit! ;) At least, many things from decades before my birth were involved in my youth, so I don't consider a lot of things 'old' that technically are. OLD has to be at least over 100 for me. *grins*

I'm a young adult, 18. I hate being termed a young adult. My mom says it means I have to start paying my own bills and if I live at home any longer, rent. It also means I have to work.

Enjoy it while you can. There things you can do at 11 that you can't do when you're older.
I can't think of what at the moment, but there are.

I am 19, but I will be 20 in January. When you are between the ages of 18 to 21 it can really confusing. At age 18 you can smoke, but you cannot drink, you can be drafted by the U.S goverment, but you can vote, but not rent a car  to be an adult or not to be an adult?

im kinda like that myself, im 24 and married with two kids and always feel old lol but saying that now my kids are old enough i've gone back to university to make up for the mistakes i made when i was younger.im thankful that i have a great husband because hes letting me go on a student exchange program next year to america but i know im gonna miss them all something chronic!
