Ruth and Queen Egg is awesome! :ok:

Your files are very big, I must admit. One way to make them smaller would be to scan them in greyscale rather than in colour (since they're not in colour!). Also, scan at a lower resolution if you can, 100dpi is fine for web use.
Anyway, here's another one :)

I do scan them in grayscale, except the watercolors, which didn't send. How do I scan at a lower resolution?
Ian
29th April 2005, 02:07 AM
Odd, they show up in Photoshop as indexed colour, I have to convert them to greyscale. You should be able to change the resolution from within your scanner software.

IT WORKED!!!! :woohoo: I thought it wouldn't send.
:shhh:Jax, I considered that, but I'm not really good at people...both socially and artistically...:O
These pictures all turned out pinker than they were supposed to, but I guess that was just the light. This one is made out of white Sculpey, brushed over with Pearl-Ex metallic powder and then the baked piece was glazed. It's one of six hatching dragons (one of each color) and is, appropriatly, the smallest. The egg itself is about three centimeters in diameter.
More should be coming soon.

Like I said, everything in these pictures is pinker than in reality. So the gold flit is golder than it appears in the picture.

The next I'm going to send are two flits, a bronze and a green, perching on a wire bicyclist I got as a gift from my grandparents. They're each four centimetes from tail tip to nose.

Did you make the flits yourself, on a wire bicycle you got from your grandparents, or you got the whole thing from your grandparents?

Well, you could say I'm cheap, or thrifty...but I work small because I get more out of one block of clay. However, I have bravely ventured to make bigger things lately.
I just finished making a girl candidate and her new baby green dragon. Just a warning...I'm not good at people faces. So I worked around it, and had the playful little green batting at her face (or lack thereof), and you can't see her "face". But the dragonet's a cutie :D I might be able to get it on by next week if possible. Hehe.
Thankee!

The secret? ;) I use ordinary floor finish as glaze (perferably Future brand) because it works just as well as the special glazes but is only about $5 for a large bottle of it. I use it to seal the metallic powders (PearlEx brand) and add extra coats for the hatchlings, etc.

I mostly draw from my head, especially when I'm drawing something like a dragon where it wouldn't be such a glaring mistke if I make the head too big, for instance, then it would for a person or a RL animal. The black & white dragoin and rider was drawn in pen (and used up quite a lot of ink). Tedious.

My friend's idea of a thestral (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/19987578/)

Thank you.
For the highlights I waited for the watercolor to dry, then added a stripe pf water where the highlight would be. Then I dried off the excess water from the brush and sort of spread the water to push the paint away...sort of hard to explain.
As for the colors, it's like everyone says...use many different shades of the color as well as other colors (in this case, I used green, blue, and black) for varied skin tones.
You also want to have good quality tube watercolors, such as Cotman which is what I use. :ok:

Bronze Cast Update
For those who don't know, the sculpture class I'm taking partly involves casting in bronze, and our one and only casting was today.
The method we used, a simple, art-class-friendly technique, was to make a clay relief (with no undercuts whatsoever, which was severely limiting but necessary) and pack sand (with a bonding solution mixed in) around it to create a mold.
My mold failed the first two times, and I was really close to not being able to cast one at all, because my molds just wouldn't come out in one piece. So I altered my piece, tried again today (all the while crosing my fingers), and it worked out beautifully.
:woohoo: :hopping:
So here's (http://www.deviantart.com/view/35758085/) my (http://www.deviantart.com/view/35758126/) piece (http://www.deviantart.com/view/35758154/), fresh and unaltered (besides a cleaning with a wire brush to remove the sand) from the mold. The next week will be focused on actually working with our bronzes, so this is a work in progress.
Bronze is very unpredictable, so be easy on the poor ugly dragon. ;)

I know, huh? :heartbeat He's a big boy now, and he used to fit on two of my fingers. Now it takes two hands.
Those orange spots only appeared a couple months ago, during a shed. Makes his flared beard even more impressive now. :D
