Is anybody else going to a prom? I am. I'm homeschooled, but a buddy of mine wants to go, and her boyfriend isn't cooperating (yeah yeah, so he lives six hours away), so I've been drafted. Man what a racket. Tux's. Heh. THPPP  . Anyway, I dont want to rent a really expensive one, so I thinking about buying one used online. I've seen some good sites with pretty decent prices. Plus then I'll have a tux. My brother went to HS so he went to prom three times, and even though I'm complicit with the monster this time, allow me just to say: "Its a bloody gratuitous waste of dough!"

*chuckles* Well I've never BEEN to a Prom (all girl's high school experience, yay!), but I've been working for a friend of mine who owns a formals shop (rents, sells, and designs and makes custom order formals and costumes), and the last three weeks out here were prom season.
Ascot Formals (brand) has a $50 rental tux (deal includes shoes, simple cuff-links, tie etc...). If you can find a used one to beat that, go for it! Otherwise, see if any of the rental places near you do Ascot. Just thought that might be useful if you're only finding "expensive" tuxes (cause BOY can that price go up!) That one was a big hit with the fellows around here this season.

*sigh* no, I'm not going :( This is the part of homeschooling that really does stink. And I don't know anyone at the school in this new town, so I'd feel out of place going :disguise:

Don't worry about that. I was home schooled and still ended up making alot of friends even in the public schools. You see I went to a private school until I was fifteen. Then my family moved and I didn't like the public school so I decided to homeschool. Besides it goes by so fast before you know it you'll be in college making tons of friends. Just focus on you schooling now so you don't hve any problems in college leaving you lots of time to play! ;)

We don't have proms over here in the same way as you do. We have similar things, but VERY few people wear tuxes, most wear a normal suit. Or even just trousers and shirt.
At uni, we have a summer ball each year, but even there it isn't essebntail to wear a tux, and last year I just wore a suit and black tie. It's all you need! Why waste stupid amounts of money, really?!
Stoopid Americans!

I'm homeschooled, and antisocial. Why the bloody h*** would I want to go to PROM!?!
Okay..so I do...i'm pretty down in the dumps that my boyfriend didn't ask me.. ..but I will give him the credit that he prolly won't go either...he has terrets((sp)) and he is like me, CAN'T stand crowds...
Here I am, complaining about crowds, and i'm trying to pick out what t-shirt and jeans to wear to the David Copperfield Magic show tonight, which I might add is now sold out! *curses* But dad got VIP passes! Yay!
:bouncy: :bouncy: :bouncy: :bouncy: :bouncy: :bouncy: :bouncy:
Maybe I should let mom go with him...it is their anniversary today....naaa
I swear, I don't own a single pair of dress pants or a shirt that isn't a cheep t from Wal*Mart! *curses again then throws hip huggers and homemade Pern shirt on bed* I think I will wear that!
*curses when she finds her old dress* Hmm..maybe....naaaaaaaaaaa...
Going to a formal event in jeans and a too big t-shirt...of course..what else would I wear?

I went to my senior and my ex boyfriend's senior proms, same dress same ex-boyfriend. First prom was nice, and one of my friends picked me up and spun me around. Hehe Second prom the floor was sticky and I kept nearly tripping.

Not all of us!
My brother is a normal guy, and he likes to shop more than I do. Give me jeans and a t-shirt anyday over a stupid, uncomfortable dress. Not to mention shoes. YUCK! So what if I like to go play outside instead of going to a money-wasting dance. Yes, I'm definitly a tomboy. ;)
In my opinion, the only dress a girl should have that is over $100, is a wedding dress.

I hate to dress up so my junior year I wore my Sophomore year prom dress to Homecoming and senior year I wore the same dress for both dances.

I danced for the YMCA, I bundled for some song which everyone was doing for and I donced alog with a pre made dance song and I danced for New Yorh, New York. (I slow dance with someone because I promised). But apart for that (5 songs) I just talked with people (and ate the dinner). You don't need to dance to have fun, but you do get out as much as you out in.

The music at the prom I went to was dismal so I only danced maybe three songs. But I went swing dancing with some friends, which was a ton of fun.

Noone had dates the whole year attended. We dropped them at school and they went to the venue in 45 seater coaches. We collected them from school at 1am. Oh and the Bar was none alcoholic much to the children's disgust.

I'm guessing a lot of people are homeschooled then. Because the only friends I've got are at school.
