I was just wondering what other people would have named Botany if they had the chance to name it. I can't really think of a name right now, but when I do I'll let you guys know. So how 'bout it? What would you call it?

Seems like we had a thread like this before, on the old KT. Wonder what I posted...

I think it was something along the lines of "New Hope".

Oh yeah, and there was also the "Starbucks" suggestion.

Botany sounds good, but failing that I'd go for New Hope or Fresh Start.

Why did they name it Botany? Is it an Australian thing or something?

Not sure.

For Botany Bay, where many convicts who were transported to Australia (for things like stealing bread when they had no food, most of them weren't murderers etc) landed.

Why not one of those tacky names in TVor films like:
THE PLANET OF NO RETURN
or
FORBIDDEN PLANET, hehe forbidden planet *thinks of the store* *sigh*manga*sigh*

I mean there has to a planet SOMEWHERE with that name.

I always figured that 'Home' would be a good name for a planet!?

"Home" sounds simple yet to the point. Very good choice. :ok:

Yep botany bay (near where i use to live before i moved up north.) also it was the same situation they were in as well. It was a test to see if the convicts could servive in the harsh australian climate and all.

Starbucks?

I just figured with all the coffee they're trading that, Starbucks, was an appropriate name. ;)

Most planets seem to only have 1 word in em new hope maybe a solar system or constellation but not a planet, i like the idea of botany it suits the situation they got placed on a planet and had to fend for themselves like botany bay which was virtually all convict population even if they werent really crims murderers woulda got their head shoved on the block botany bay was petty thievery crims

Do me a favor please, Flaym. Get to know your shift key and your period key.

I remember reading it for the first time and wondering why the HECK they would choose the name of a plant science as the name for their world. I knew about Australia being a prison colony, but I'd never heard of Botany Bay.

Not to mention the lovely comma, semicolon, and other punctuation marks.

I probably would have called it Harvest. Makes sense since that's what was it's main purpose for the aliens.
