I am a bone china teacup
sitting on a cherry wood shelf
in amongst rows of clay mugs.
Their lumpy forms a distraction
from the exact, smooth shape of me.

I am a person
defined by the rules
of custom and society and morals
surrounded by those who live to
break rules and who don’t like
boxes.

Which form holds the more beauty?

Ooo! I like this!

The question you posted after the two stanzas (?) does make urge one to look at the two stanzas again.

At first, I thought the tea cup a little conceated. I also thought the person was a law abiding citizen amongst law breakers.

Then I looked at the whole thing again.

The person and the tea cup are the same. Both conforming to their world's acceptable views. While others around the person and the tea cup express themselves in their own way, regardless public opinion.

And that's my interpretation. Based on that interpretation, I think the answer to the question is neither. I also think that each stanza helps to understand the other. (Okay. I'm slow tonight and I had to read the whole thing several times before I got halfway to my understanding or interpretation of the poem.)

<makes happy noises> Wow. Someone understood it. Thanks for the feedback! I seem to make so little sense to people, in general. Like I can never get my point across withought restating my point 15 different ways. ((hugs Wolfegar))

You're welcome. Write more.

(Sooner or later you'll write something that I don't understand. I know you can do it. Uhm....)
