Well, okay, if you only want it to be a little bit different, the Wyldr Weyrs probably aren't for you. We're pretty much...
Well, quite different.
You see, some sixty-odd turns ago the dragons really stepped up production - they were reproducing like crazy. No one really knew why... they just took to accepting the swelling numbers, and finding random closets to stick everyone in. Wings became full-powered, and Weyrs started fielding several flights apiece - Pern hadn't ever been as full-strength as it was.
And then there were the Weyrlings. You can't have a good Weyr without Weyrling scrapes... well, these two really got into it. They disappeared between - into one of the Weyrling's dreamscapes. Only it wasn't a dream; it was a real place, located on another planet not so very far away. Upon returning - and finding the Weyr in mourning for the loss of two of it's Weyrling pairs - the Weyrlings explained where they'd been, and were sternly punished. It'd planted a seed in their WeyrlingMaster's mind, though, and he sought out the coordinates from one of the dragonets, visiting the place himself.
So the turns turned, as they're wont to do, and the dragons continued flooding the Weyrs for no visible reason.
Until the morning the Thread started falling - and never stopped. Pern was decimated, it's population distraught, it's pastures and fields useless under the onslaught of Thread. Settlers were chosen, and sent to the "new" planet; there to be safe from the Thread and to ensure the continuation of humans and dragons alike.
Join us on the planet of Wyldr, either at Nesrin Weyr, Asharawn Wherhold and Healer Hall or Selynin Weyr. We've got some pretty strange ideas, but it should all work out okay...
