There're going to be a whole load of cards to do someting with at the end of the festive season, some of which may have great sentimental value but others which may just be excess to need. What do you do with your festive cards at the end of their usefull life?

Years ago I'd take them for the kids in my class to use, but we now have a "no holiday policy" (political correctness and all that) and I take them to church, where someone sends them off to St. Jude's or something (not the hospital, another place for kids)

I'm a hoarder, so I guess I put them in the desk drawer to join cards I've received in the last 13 years since I moved away from my parents.

All my KT cards go in my KT postcard drawer and we keep most at least a year and look at them again when we get the christmas decorations out the following year before recycling them!

I tend to keep my cards for 1-2 years. then I give them to my mother. She (thru the church) sends them off to some organization where they use them to make things. This way I don't feel bad with not keeping them. I have a few cards that I have kept forever and I probably always will.

We put all of our cards into our recycling bin normally. A few get cut up and made into tags, but not many.

My Granny used to cut up hers with pinking shears (a task I used to be roped in to do) it used to really hurt my hands as they were quite stiff) but we just keep some and put the rest in the recycling box.

Anything from the postcard exchange goes into the book with the rest so I can look at them later. The other cards all go into the Christmas box until next year. This year I couldn't find any cards I really liked so those old cards became postcards and off they went. :bouncy:

Recycling as with the most of my letters envelopes old papers .
Only the things with huge sentimental value is kept in a box in the attic ;)

Unless from a loved one I usually like to give them to kids to give them to kids to do art with :)

You didn't make this multiple choice, Jayson!

My cards get sorted at the end of the season. SOme I scan into my computer for clip art projects. SOme go to school with my daughetr for art projects, some I use here for craft projects, and some just go into the recyling bag.

My PCX cards are kept, as well as the other sentimental ones. The rest are recycled. (The local student council has a paper recycling box. :good: )

Definitely into the recycling bin (unless they are photographs and I want to keep it)

A craft we did a couple of years ago with our girl guides: We took the cards and cut the front off. Then wrote a message on the back and cut the cards into puzzle pieces. Then into an envelope they went to be given to and assembled by a loved one in order to read the message.

Most years I keep some cards, recycle some and do craft with others.

During the season I tape them up on the wall. Afterward I take them down, and seem to be hoarding them. I'm such a pack rat. :D

Our cards get packed away until the following November. Then, I read them again. Then.. I cut out the most appropriate pictures and use them as name tag for the Christmas gifts. I've collected a variety of scissors with different cutting edges.

So many of them make the prettiest tags.

I put them on the wall during the season and then they go into the recycle bin. I just don't have the space to save them and wouldn't know what to do with them otherwise, as I am not really acraft person.

I keep them until the following winter when they come out for the kids to do crafts with, or I give them to the creche where they go and they use them to do crafts.

Either keep them until next year so I have a starting list for next year's cards, or toss em. Depends on my mood.

We keep all our X-mas cards and when its time to wrap gifts the next year we cut them up and use them as tags :) Its one of my favorite things to do each year! Though this year my mom did all of them while I was at work so I didnt get to do it this year :(

It rather depends upon whom the card is from. Some I could really care less about, and they get recycled. Others I'll keep for years. My Christmas cards that is. Haven't thrown away a signle PCX card. They're just too unique to get rid off. :D

I rarely make multiple choice polls AnnMarie... I prefer to force a choice or a comment about why it should be multiple choice

Yeah AMarie, Jayson is very "forceful" but truth be told, only to others and not to Alter :)

I just discovered that several local chain stores will be taking cards for recycling

That's good considering our recycling collection won't take carboard!

Most of my cards this year were posties from PCX, so they're in the holder with all the other posties :D The few that I did get will be recycled. I'm a bit surprised by the lack of local recycling in England... in Oz, there's a recycling bin for each home (as far as I know)...

We are now recycling less than we used to despite the council claiming this new system is better :irked:

We're saving all our cardboard of course, waiting to locate the nearest palce we can to take it eventually...

We're lucky, we can recycle cardboard, several types of paper, plastic milk cartons, glass and tin cans.

Well, some cards I keep, depends on what they are. Some cards I cut the front off, using fancy edge scissors, and I punch a hole in the area designated as the top, and then, string a gold thread thru or floss or some such and I use those as gift tags for packages. works out well.

I used to just toss them, but hubby insists that we keep them. They are in files in his office.

Our local council does not recycle card, but several of the shops in the city do, so I usually take them down when I go to buy next year's cards in the January sales :)

Our local council does not recycle card, but several of the shops in the city do, so I usually take them down when I go to buy next year's cards in the January sales :)It really beggars belief that when the facilities exist, and have proven to be cost effective, councils still don't offer decent recycling services :irked:

We recycle less under their latest scheme than we used to... They will take plastic bottles but not other plastics now, which have the PET symbol on and are recyclable! :irked:

It's not like there's a nearby facility we can take things to either! We'd probably create more pollution using the car to go to the recycling plant than we'd save by the recycling

I use the cards from previous years as decorations~ :erm: when I can find them.... I 'pack' them away safely every year,,, and sometimes can find them but mostly they stay hid for a year or two then pop up to join the current batch...

in an after Christmas sale I found some beautiful Thomas Kincade cards that if they dont get lost will be next year's mailings~

cross your fingers peeps, some of you are on that list too~ :D

I don't get too many cards of any sort, so I like to keep them all :D All the ones from Kalina I put up and keep up as long as there's room, but as soon as I run out of room, I save all the others. Though some of mine from years ago I have misplaced after I moved :erm:

I keep some cards from people I care about. My friends and I make each other cards so I definitely keep those. I'm a lot more picky about other cards then I used to be, though. :erm:
