Was given the three 'Old Kingdom' books for my birthday, which I've been working my way through without displeasure! Generally, they're a simple read, though with darker elements thrown in and I've already recommended them others.
I am aware that this author has also written some new novels, with days of the week in the titles... Can't recal them off hand! Any on else read his work and wish to comment on the Old Kingdom series (Sabriel, Lirael & Abhorsen) or the newer books...?

I have Sabriel, I need it for Uni next semester for a course on literature for children and adolescence. I haven't read them, but I just have to share this story about it.-
So there I was at a convention a few weeks ago, with Emmy, looking at my new Garth Nix book, when a guy walks up and says "I see you're reading my book". :good: I have to say Garth Nix seems very nice and is quite good looking too. :D

(Looked it up a few minutes ago in short story my friend lent me, 'The Creature in the Case' which apparently follows on from the Old Kingdom series...

Oooooh so you got to meet him! I've seen pictures of him a few times but never thought that.
I've read the three Old Kingdom books and quite enjoyed them. I liked Lirael, the middle book, the best, maybe because I already knew a little about Lirael's world, but there was still a lot to be introduced. I found the mixing of fantasy with a kind of World War II civilisation a bit strange but it works.
It is interesting to note that the parts about the seven levels of death and the bells has some basis in mythology, but I can't remember where I've seen it now... :shake:
Highly recommended for someone looking for something a bit out of the ordinary!
And no, I wont tell you more about these - you just have to read them!

I loved that series. I keep rereading it. I have to say, that Mogget is the best character I've ever met. Where's a book without the lovable, talking "cat"?

I also liked the old kingdom series. I gave my son the Monday and Tuesday books for Christmas. He liked them, but I haven't got around to reading them yet.
