I listen to everything, so I guess I don't have too much to say on that--I like everything, from diggeridoo to country to rap to Linkin Park. It cracks me up that just about everyone on this thread mentioned them--you kind of have to be in a certain mood to appreciate it.
XD
But you know what irritates me the most? Why is it socially acceptible to hate country music? I was raised on it. I'm not a fan of it, but it isn't that bad--some songs REALLY suck, but you don't get funny songs from any other genre in music, and the really good drinking songs (you know what I mean...) are ALL country. Bleugh.
Country isn't just "whiskey, beer and horses" music. Some of it is really sad, sweet, and fun. I think it irritates me the most when people don't know it at all and criticise it. Akin to calling something like a religion "stupid" when you don't know anything about it/have no personal beliefs of your own.

I hate pop and boy bands. They annoy the living bejeebers out of me. Britany Spears can kiss my hairy white a$$, her singing... Yick.
Rap (I actually like Eminem) but other than that, I don't like it and don't listen to it.
I like country. Shoot me if you want, but I like it.
I do listen to hard stuff (i.e. Insane Clown Posse, Rob Zombie, the dark stuff)
Ok maybe that's in the wrng thread, but oh well.

Because I've been forced to listen to it, and it SUCKS. I loathe Southern accents with a passion, and hearing someone howl about how they lost their love in a hick accent... *shudder*

I agree with you but I was raised on country and still hate it. John Denver is the closest I come and that is more of a sentimental reason than anything(my father, whom I love dearly,an I used to sit and listen to him, well we still do) But I have to say I like all other music except most modern music. I used to like rap about four years ago and then I became a mother and started to realize it was damaging to the mental and physical moral, I could go on and on! But one other thing is if you listen to a lot of the eighties they have some absolutely hilarious lyrics and a fun mood. Kind of cheery upbeat and all around goofy!! My husband loves the eighties I'm more of a Fiona Apple, Eric Clapton, and blues kind of girl myself. Oh and i do like some of Evenescense even though the are more of a Gothic feel. ;)

At least you know some country music, most of these kids who are all, 'DANG, COUNTRY SUCKS." don't even *know* anything beyond Garth Brooks. And Garth Brooks isn't all that great (IMHO,) and I'm not a huge country fan, but the bashing does get to me a lot.

Ahem. Some of those folks with "hick" accents probably have more degrees, culture and style than many of us can ever aspire to. Let's keep an open mind. We're a huge country, it'd be sad if we limited ourselves to only appreciating a small portion of it! ;)

Anything can be described as 'culture' though! GOOD culture is simply what the elite call good. Which is subject to change.

I live in Alabama...there are a lot of accents here...I've learned to deal with it. I try and avoid having an accent as much as possible, but people at D*C last year said that I do have a little of one. I don't like country music. I don't hate it either, I just have music I GREATLY prefer over it. That isn't saying it isn't good. It's just in a person's personality to whether they like it or not, just like any other kind of music. It's just in my taste to like Heavy Metal, rock, and techno/trance. I don't see why we need this thread. It would be better to ask what kind we like, not what kind we don't like, as there is bound to be people who like the music being bashed who might get offended.

I'll second that. Although every one of their songs is almost the same. (I did music as a subject for GCSE. The down side is i analyse almost everything I hear.)

Now that is just rude! Hicks have feels too you know and some of them are quite smart. Culture is culture you can't squeeze it in to a container and say "there thats what culture is" It is different to everyone and better or worse to everyone. Just because someone is different doesn't mean that they are ignorant they have had different experiences and different upbringings. Hicks can be cool to and I know I girl who hates the Northern Accents and only like southern! So next time you think of calling a certain style of speaking bad just remember your way is not always the best in others eyes and ears either! :box:

I had a bunch of Maroon 5 songs on my library of songs.....I just recently deleted every last one of them. Then after deleting I copied almost every Green Day song on American Idiot. I some from Dookie.

Emo, anyone? I adore Dashboard Confessional! Also (not quite as emo) Ben Folds, John Mayer, John Ralston (no one's heard of him, but he's TERRIFIC!), Greenday, etc., plus the classics, Billy Joel, Beatles, etc.
Can't STAND Britney, etc. Although, sad as it is to admit, I have a lingering love for the Backstreet Boys, as they were clearly the music of my childhood. ::bows her head in shame::

Finally, someone else who'll admit to liking the Backstreet Boys! I've been to two of their concerts, which were wonderful! Their latest album has some very good stuff on it. They were talented, they could sing, and so there to everyone else! ;)
