Pacific Basilisks
An ancient hybrid species, a cross between a chicken and a serpent. Each part of thier body reflects the mix, so it's not a snake head and not a chicken head but something in between, It's wings are fully functionally and larger than normal chicken wings. It has a feather ruff like a rooster but much of it's body is scaled like a serpents. Full grown it's about 2 feet long/high. with a squat main body , and it has two legs, the tail is feathered but snakish.
Pacific Basilisks come from eggs, hatched by sea toads, but presumably laid by roosters. They are found in groups of 7, 9 or 13. They are impressionable. The basilisks themselves are genderless, and are unbreedable. Only the G & S hosts know where to find the nests of the Pacific Basilisks. (And a few cryptozoologoists are also in the know)
Pacific Basilisks are extremely loyal, and adore being helpful. All have the ability to find small lost objects such as keys, they like tasks around the house or garden. Excellent at dusting and weeding. They may also act as guards for thier person or thier person's property.
Each color type has associated scents. They make noises that sound sort of like "Squibbit", but they are also expert at mimicing sounds they hear, they also have a humming/purring sound when petted. (Unfortunately, they are just a bit off-key) The scents manifest as the feathers dry after hatching.
The color types/combinations are
1. Red/golden
2. blue/green
3. black/blue
4. black/green
5. black/red
6. black/silver
7. silver/green
8. silver/blue
9. silver/red
They are very affectionate and do not like to be seperated from thier person, it upsets them.
They are omnivores, don't eat most vegetables, preferring grains & rice, and prefer seafood to most meats. They are notoriously fond of kiwi fruit as a treat.
(The creatures are brought to you by a joint effort of your G & S hosties, with input from other hosts, especially for you)
**********************************************************
Mountain/Forest Basilisks.
A sub-species of the Pacific Basilisk. They have been seperate from thier PB ancestors long enough to have evolved from the root species. These live below the snowline.
Although they are still nueter, they have begun to show signs of gender differential. The Crytozoologists believe that they will evolve in time into a male/female procreation species rather than being hatched from the egg of a rooster incubated by a toad. Cluster sizes have remained the same.
The color combinations have changed as well. Probably to better blend in with thier surroundings.
the new combinations are
Bronze/dark green
Bronze/rust-red
Bronze dappled
Copper/dark green
Copper/rust-red
Copper dappled
Dark green/rust-red
Bronze/copper
(color does not seem to effect the developing gender difference)
One good thing, they still retain a pleasant aroma, but no longer have the unpleasant odor. Instead of having that as a defensive/offensive measure, they have developed thier mimicking ability to a point where they can sound like predators and scare threats away, or make such horrible noises that people will flee from them.
**********************************************************
Snow Basilisks...
The cluster sizes are smaller, 3 to 7 eggs. This variety really has the crytozoologists stumped. Serpents are generally more active in the warmer months and climates. These basilisks are active durning winter and tend to hybernate when it's warmer. They can live in more moderate climes, but do not expect them to be very active in warm weather. You must provide a snug sleeping space for them, rather like their own little burrow or cave.
What has the cryptozoologists excited is that the Snow Basilisk has evolved into actually reproducing genders and are no longer dependent on the eggs laid by roosters and hatched by toads as Pacific and Mountain Basilisks are. Gender is independent of color, males and females are roughly the same size, the males have more of a ruff or crest around the neck than the females do, which makes them easier to tell apart.
All Snow Basilisks are mottled pearly/matte white, with faint color accents.
The colors are a pale icy blue, a pale icy green, pale grey, pale copper, pale bronze.
Unlike the Pacific and Mountain Basilisks, these do not have strong definitive scents. They are even more vocally inclined than the PBs and MBs. They are also a bit more affectionate.
They mature within a year, the females can lay eggs after 11 months. Eggs take approx. 9-10 weeks to hatch. Generally clutches have more males than females. In the wild, when the females are egg heavy, the males hunt meat for them, the females do their own foraging near the nest/cave/burrow. Hatchlings are born able to eat soft foods, and soon can eat everything an adult can. They have a good digestive system.
Please note, if you receive a female snow basilisk you may once they are mature, have your own hatchings/bonding. I am not restricting the breed.
**********************************************************
FeatherFluffs
Thier bodies are about the size of a tennis ball, they are covered with downey-like feathers which are fluffy and almost furlike in appearance. They have stout little legs and longer arms with hands that have three fingers and a thumb.
Thier purpose in life seems to be tidying up, they act like mobile automatic feather dusters. They will dust then teleport themselves outside and spin themselves free of the dust. They are also very good at sorting things. Beads, spools or hanks of thread, push pins, colored plastic colored paper clips, socks and other small items. They are affectionate and like to be petted after performing thier tasks.
They reproduce mating, then the females lay eggs., Thier color depends on thier gender. All the females can lay eggs, and all the males are virile. A female will lay her eggs, and they take approxiamately 3 1/2 weeks to hatch. A clutch tends to be about 7 - 10 eggs.At birth the newborn is about the size of a ping-pong ball. It can eat soft foods like oatmeal and hamburger when hatched. They are omnivorous.
The colors tend to be almost neon bright.
Pink - female
Orange - female
Orchid - female
Blue - male
green - male
purple - male
yellow - male
red - male.
Males outnumber females approximately 3 to 1.
They live about 4 - 5 years. They are mature by 5 months old. Females can lay thier first clutches at 6 months. They make almost birdlike sounds. They are about as intelligent as the average dog.
If you recieve a female Featherfluff, you may have your own hatchings of these creatures once they are at least 6 months old!!! I am not retaining sole control over them.

Myntara Hawks
** Please do not breed or give away without permission **
General Description
Myntara Hawks are named after Myntara, the forest in which these hawks were first found. They look much like terran hawks, though they are generally larger. Like the terran hawk, the Myntara Hawk is a bird of prey.
They come in a variety of colours - black, greys, browns, reddish brown, as well as the rare white. It is very rare that a bird will be all one colour, usually they are a combination of two. Even with the colour variations, all Myntara Hawks have a lighter underbelly with the darker feathers on their wings and tails. They have sharp talons as well as a hooked beak for hunting small animals.
Originally Created by: wulfin
Special Abilities:
All Myntara hawks have limited telepathy used to communicate with other hawks as well as their bondmates. They communicate with their bondmate and other hawks in pictures and images. They will never communicate with other humans.
Pure white hawks have the ability of healing - with the direction of the bondmate they can heal others as well
Pure black hawks have the ability to read ones thoughts - not just those of their bondmate
Hawks with black or white in combination have limited abilities. Other colour and colour variations have no other special abilities - just those of its species.
Oddities:
Does this creature need to bond? No. However, bonding with a human strenghthens their own powers. Bonding need not occur at any specific time in the Myntara Hawk's life, but it generally happens within the first year after hatching, before it reaches full maturity.
Specific Physical Statistics:
Size at birth: About the size of a man's fist
Size at maturity: Stands about 2 feet high (not including its long tailfeathers) with a wingspan of 4-5 feet
Time to maturity: They can fly almost immediately unlike their terran counterparts, but take a full year to reach maturity.
Life Span: 30 years
Scales? Hide? Feathers?: Feathers
Mental Abilities:
How smart are they?: They are very intelligent as birds go, however they are birds. They do not think the same as humans - either in thought pattern or thoughts themselves. Even after bonding, they retain their animalistic nature.
Breeding:
How often can the creature get pregnant: Once a year
How long between pregnancies: One year
How long is it pregnant: 2 months
Are all females fertile (barring accidents): Yes
Are all males fertile (barring accidents): Yes
Is there sex linked traits (like colour?): No - birds of both sexes can be any colour with the ability for that colour
How many offspring can the creature have at once: 6-8 eggs
Myntara Hawks mate for life

Ieshan Dragons
** Please do not breed or give away without permission **
General Description
Ieshan Dragons are named from their homeworld of Iesha. When their world was attacked and destroyed, the dragons found a way to leave their world and find a new place to call "home". These giant dragons are hoarders and though they do not mind sharing their wealth with their bondmate, it is on the dragon's terms...not the bondmates. Only in very rare occasions does the bondmate know the location of the hoard as these dragons are exceedingly territorial and will kill any creature that comes near it's horde. With the territorial instincts, they are also extremely possessive which is why no more than one Ieshan Dragon will bond with a person at any given time. The dragon, may decide to break the bond if they are not satisfied though this is very rare. With the long life of the Ieshan Dragon, they may bond with more than 1 human throughout their lifetime.
Ieshan Dragons prefer to live in a mountainscape riddled with caves sufficient enough to hide their treasures, though those that bond have learned to adapt and have found some very.. unusual places to stash their horde. These dragons can be vicious and have been known to destroy towns, villages, or cities in search of more items to add to their horde.
These dragons are scaled and there are many different variations of greens, browns, blues, golds, silver, black, red, white, yellow, purple as well as the occasional sport (mixed colours). The colours do not indicate any special ability or sex. Ieshan Dragon colours DO indicate their family clan and they breed within their clan (a green will breed with a green and offspring will be...green). When an Ieshan Dragon breeds outside of their family clan, then sports may appear with mixes of the two clan colours. Sports are often not welcome in either clan and the parents are banished. The only thing that will determine male from female are the horns on its' head. A female will not have any horns, the male will have 2-4" horns extending from behind its "ears" once it is fully mature (a baby male will have small "stubs" from which the horns grow). Male names end with constonent, female names end with a vowel.
Originally Created by: wulfin
Special Abilities:
All Ieshan Dragons have the ability to find treasure, whether in gold, silver, precious metals, gems, or otherwise. So you must be prepared to lose some of your own treasures to an Ieshan Dragon. They can also communicate telepathically between their own race as well as their bondmate. They will never speak to any other human. Also, the bonded human enjoys an extended lifespan by about 20 years.
Oddities:
Does this creature need to bond? No, but they often do just for the kinship if nothing else.
Specific Physical Statistics:
Size at birth: About the size of a midsized car
Size at maturity: Large - about the size of a B727 (not quite as large as the Pernese dragons)
Time to maturity: 20 years
Life Span: 1000+ years, no one is sure since humans do not outlive the dragon.
Scales? Hide? Feathers?: Scales which nothing can pierce.
Mental Abilities:
How smart are they?: These dragons are smarter than the average human and because of their long lives gain much wisdom.
Breeding:
How often can the creature get pregnant: Once every 5 years
How long is it pregnant: 1 year
Are all females fertile (barring accidents): Yes
Are all males fertile (barring accidents): Yes
Is there sex linked traits (like colour?): No
How many offspring can the creature have at once: 5-20 eggs

Mynthians (Equine breed)
General Description
These equines are a mix of terran equines as well as the pegasi. They have the look of the Terran equines with the
addition of the wings of the pegasi. They have the same colourings of Terran equines, though pure black and pure
white are rare.
Mynthians inhabit the planet Myntara and were creations by mages to aid humankind in war. Mynthians are very
strong and fast - both in the air and on land. During times of war, they were ridden by warriors and were much
feared by their enemies. In times of peace they are often raced as the thoroughbreds on Terra, though Mynthians
are obviously raced on both land and in the air.
Now, Mynthian bloodlines are very carefully charted to produce the best of the breed as well as to control the
creation of sports (caused by breeding of siblings).
Originally Created by: wulfin
Special Abilities: Limited telepathy with their bonded through images, ability to fly.
Oddities:
Does this creature need to bond? Yes, before weaning or the Mynthian will die
Specific Physical Statistics:
Size at birth: The same as a terran foal
Size at maturity: 18-23 Hands at the shoulder
Time to maturity: One year
Life Span: 20 years
Scales? Hide? Feathers?: Horsehair on body, hooves on feet, feathers on wings
Mental Abilities:
How smart are they?: They are smarther than the Terran equine, though they are still horses.
Breeding:
How often can the creature get pregnant: Twice a year
How long is it pregnant: 3 months
Are all females fertile (barring accidents): Yes
Are all males fertile (barring accidents): Yes
Is there sex linked traits (like colour?): No
How many offspring can the creature have at once: Usually one, twins are very rare.
** Mynthians MAY be bred with the following restrictions **
All matings must be approved by wulfin as lineage will be tracked (as well as information forwarded about the
offspring including name/colour/bonding information)
Sibling matings to create sport will be considered, but may not be approved.
No mating with wild Mynthian horses - both must be "purebred" (bonded).
Do not give away without permission

Zalkryn Dragons
** Please do not breed or give away without permission **
General Description
Zalkryn dragons are large dragons that unlike many counterparts, rather than living in caves or mountains lives in the plains and prairies. They have two wings, four legs (all four are working limbs so that they can walk on all fours), a large tail that is 2/3s of their total length and their head have two curvy horns.
In the wild, these dragons live in groupings of up to 40 adult dragons with several clutches of young dragons. Once the young dragons grow to maturity, they often leave to find groups of their own - 2 or 3 may choose to stay with their parental grouping. These wild groupings are becoming harder and harder to find as they have had many battles on Zalkryn over land and territories (Zalkryn dragons are VERY territorial).
Female Zalkryn dragons are shades of gold, green, yellow, and black. Males are blue, orange, red, purple, and white. Once in a while a grey dragon is hatched, this can male or female and cannot live alone unbonded. Colour does not denote any special abilities, though red and black are generally the dominant male and female. The horns are generally the same colour as their scales, though once in a while they will be a different colour which will denote a different ability than the norm.
Zalkryn dragons do not know their names at birth until they bond at which time their name comes to them - it is a combination of a native Zalkryn name and the name of their bondmate. If they do not bond, they will learn their full Zalkryn name at the age of 3 weeks.
Originally Created by: wulfin
Special Abilities: Telepathy with their bonded, ability to breathe fire, ability to become invisible at will.
Oddities:
Does this creature need to bond? Only the grey needs to bond, others may or may not choose to bond.
Specific Physical Statistics:

Size at maturity: The body would be 20-40 feet long with a tail of 40-80 feet long.
Time to maturity: 8 months
Life Span: 80 Years
Scales? Hide? Feathers?: Scales
Mental Abilities:
How smart are they?: At birth, the Zalkryn has the intelligence of a 5 year old - as they mature they become more intelligent than the average human.

How often can the creature get pregnant: Twice a year
How long is it pregnant: 4 months
Are all females fertile (barring accidents): Yes, except grey
Are all males fertile (barring accidents): Yes, except grey

Mist Drakes (Draconic Species)
** Please do not breed or give away without permission **
Originally created by: wulfin
General Description
Mist Drakes are creatures that live on Myntara in areas with water. They have a trick of hiding in the mists where no one can see them. They do this both for protection as well as hiding prior to attacks. Their eggs are also hidden in the mists and only someone bonded to them woudl be able to see them.
These creatures have a single horn on their nose, 2 longer horns coming from their foreheads and "spikes" along their spines. These spikes are soft-scaled as is the rest of the drake, but the drake will flatten them in flight. They have four legs and can walk on all fours, and two wings. The body of the drake is about the length of a small terran puppy (think shih-tzu) with a tail that is it's body length and slightly longer. They look remarkably close to the image here (http://www.wulfin.com/BlackDragon.jpg).
Mist drakes are generally darker colours such as black, different shades of grey, dark green, blue, purple, and sometimes the odd dark red and extremely rare white. Colours do not denote sex, but abilities.
Special Abilities:
All drakes have an affinity with water, are telepathic, and are telekinetic with their affinities.
Black denotes a tendancy towards warfare and their abilities are of tactics and fire.
Grey have an affinity with stone and rock and their abilities are anything from finding metals or gems, to having powers over rock (shifting it, moving it, changing it, etc)
Green has an affinity to earth and living things and their abilities can bend the earth, trees, and plants to do their bidding.
Blue has a stronger affinity to water than the others and can control the rain, start and stop hurricanes and other water control.
Purple has an affinity to air and like the blue can control weather, but more in the realm of winds, direct air currents and thermals.
Red has affinity and abilities of all.
Whites have the ability to heal and are not telekinetic at all.
Oddities:
Does this creature need to bond? No.
When does it need to bond? No specific time, but generally upon hatching.
Specific Physical Statistics:
Size at birth: body size of an iguana, length from nose to tail of a child's arm (shoulder to hand)
Size at maturity: body size of a small puppy, length from nose to tail of a man's arm (shoulder to fingertips)
Time to maturity: 8 months
Life Span: 100 Years
Scales? Hide? Feathers?: Scales, but have a soft/flexible feel to them
Breeding:
How often can the creature get pregnant: Once a year
How long between pregnancies: 6 months
How long is it pregnant: 2 months
Are all females fertile (barring accidents): Yes
Are all males fertile (barring accidents): Yes
Is there sex linked traits (like colour?): No
How many offspring can the creature have at once: 10-20 eggs

Gryphons
Originally Created by C_ris
General Description
Half lion, half eagle. These creatures are odd because of their mix of races. When then they can change constantly between the two natural personalities until they settle as the mature into adults. They can be very fierce (though are generally docile when mature) if they or their bond-mate (if they have one) are threatened, or if their hoard of treasure is disturbed. They are easily large enough to give rides to humans.
They have the front half of an eagle (complete with wings) and the rear half of a lion. They eat raw red meat, though occasionally may eat some fish.
Special Abilities
None, other than a link with their bond-mate (if they have one)
Oddities
These are extraordinarily monogamous creatures and almost always mate for life. If one partner dies, it is extremely rare for the other to mate with another.
-----------
Specific Physical Statistics
Size at birth: 4m head to tail, Wingspan about 3m
Size at maturity: 6m high, 10-15m long, Wingspan about 10m

Males:
Red - Generally the Alpha males
Orange - Smaller, less regal
Females:
Yellow - The largest females (smaller than the reds)
Green - Lay smaller clutches, are generally smaller in size
Black: Both sexes, extremely rare, and are the largest of all the Gryphons.
How many offspring can the creature have at once? 10-20
Anything else you can think of: Gryphons lay their eggs (about 3m across) in natural cliffs and keep watch over the entrance to ensure that no predators come within range.
If gryphons bond, they need to do so at birth, and if they don't then they will just go wild.
Please, no breeding without permission.

They are very well tuned to magic and often choose the most magically charged of the people available to be their bondmate
Special Abilities
This critter can run 'as fast as the wind' and is telepathically linked to its bond-mate, though there is little in the way of verbal communication, and most of it is one-way, to the Steed. They are strong, and can carry several people at once.

Time to maturity: about 6 months
Number of wings/arms/legs if a peculiar number:
Scales? Hide? Feathers? Hide
Anything else you can think of.
Mental Abilities
How smart are they? About the same as a horse. They work by instincts rather than by rational thought.
Breeding
How often can the creature get pregnant? Once every year
How long between pregnancies? 9 months
How long is it pregnant? 4 months
Are all females fertile (barring accidents)? Yes
Are all males fertile (barring accidents)? Yes
Is there sex linked traits (like colour)? Yes
Male steeds bond with men and female steeds bond with women.
How many offspring can the creature have at once? 2
Anything else you can think of.
A Steed must bond within a month of birth, or it will die, as after a month, the mother will completely disregard the new foal, and if it has not found its bond-mate then it will die.

Tinyflits
Originally Created by C_ris
General Description Very, very small dragon-like creatures. They come in metallic colours, and live either wild in a fair or bond at birth. They take on many of their bond-mates characteristics (if they bond) but if they don't they will develop their own characteristics. Tinyflits like to hang around in decent sized numbers. They are very sociable.
Special Abilities All are telepathic, though at birth they can only broadcast emotions clearly, by maturity they can communicate words and thoughts easily. They work well as a team.
-----------
Specific Physical Statistics
Size at birth: 2 inches
Size at maturity: 6 inches
Time to maturity: 1 month
Number of wings/arms/legs if a peculiar number: 2 legs 2 'arms' 2 wings
Scales? Hide? Feathers? Hide
Anything else you can think of. All colours are metallic. Colours have no meaning.
Colours:
Silver
Purple
Blue
Green
Red
Gold
Rainbow Tinyflits are very rare, with only one per 1000 clutches or there about. They have every colour above in them. They can also be male or female. If two Rainbow Tinyflits mate, it will almost certainly hatch a Rainbow Tinyflit, though this rarely happens.
Sports can occur, but these are white and infertile, and also rarely grow above 5 inches in size. These are even rarer than Rainbow Tinyflits (occur once every 5000 clutches)
Mental Abilities
How smart are they? Instinctive at birth, but by maturity reach about the same level of intelligence as their bond-mate (if they have one)
Breeding
How often can the creature get pregnant? Every 2 months
How long between pregnancies? 2 months
How long is it pregnant? 2 weeks in mother, 1 week laid
Are all females fertile (barring accidents)? Yes
Are all males fertile (barring accidents)? Yes
Is there sex linked traits (like colour)? Only slightly:
Female Tinyflits tend to be more of a pastel- shade
Male Tinyflits tend to have a more bold colour.
Do they have to bond? No
If they can bond, when? Only at birth/hatching
How many offspring can the creature have at once? 3 max
Anything else you can think of: Tinyflits quite often hatch as twins, and twins always have the same colour though are not always the same sex. Rainbow Tinyflits never come as twins, and can arise from any pairing.
They often develop similar traits to their bond-mate if they have one, in regards to temperament
Please, no breeding without permission.

General Description
Barsoomian Lions are native to a star system called Drax, located in the far fringes of the multi-verse. The habitat bubble in which they were found, seemed to be a re-creation of an old Terran book series called John Carter of Mars. In general, they resemble the normal Terran lion, but there are some rather major differences. The Barsoomian Lion has eight legs and can grow to be 6 tall at the shoulder. Their speed and strength seem to be enhanced; it is unknown whether this enhancement was produced by bio-engineering or magical means. Barsoomian Lions are also empathic and can sense the presence of any living being within 1 mile of their location. This empathic sense allows them to hunt selectively and very successfully; they try to avoid contact with sentient beings.
Barsoomian Lions live and hunt in small groups or prides, each pride will consist of a dominant male/female pair, their offspring and a few non-related females with their offspring. The females are the primary hunters, while the male is the pride guardian and baby-sitter. Males will not allow any cubs that are not his progeny to live with the pride, these outsiders will either be killed by the male or driven off. Females will never allow more than one male in any litter to survive; she will choose which male she thinks is the best and kill any other male cubs in her litter.
Barsoomian Lions also have an unusual social gathering, once every 5 years. Prides from many places will gather in groups of 3 or more prides and exchange females. What causes this unusual behavior is unknown, but the results are obvious; minimal in-breeding. As a species, Barsoomian Lions are exceptionally well bred and have very few mutations. Xeno-zoologists across the multi-verse can offer no rationalization for the extreme viability of this species; xeno-biologists, xeno-geneticists and xeno-paleontologists are equally befuddled.

Meridian Battle Dragons

Species type: dragon

Updated on: 06/26/06
General Description
Meridian Battle Dragons were created by the War Wizards of Meridian ages before it became a pocket dimension. The original Battle Dragons were mechanical constructs animated by magic. Eventually, once they proved their worth in battle, the War Wizards sought the means to give their constructs life and the ability to breed. Long years of research were successful and the process of merging a free dragon soul with the mechanical Battle Dragon became real. The dragon souls were happy to find a home and their new bodies were much appreciated. The resulting creatures were now a self-replicating, independent species with eight colors, two sexes and various abilities.
Battle Dragons are bred for fighting, they can be very hard to control in peacetime; this trait is being bred out of them, but the process is slow. This trait is easier to contain if hatchlings are not trained in battle tactics or allowed to fight; once they have a taste of battle experience it is impossible to make them forget the feeling. Some attempts at redirecting this trait have led to serious complications; a group of Battle Dragon pit fighters was recently discovered on Draconis 3. The humanoids involved were arrested and sent to the mines for the rest of their natural lives, the exploited Battle Dragons were humanely euthanized for the protection of society. There are also rumors of a ring of egg thieves who are selling them on the Black Market; most often bought by folk from war torn worlds.
When not trained to fight, Meridian Battle Dragons make excellent companions and loyal protectors. Many have developed a taste for traveling and seek out members of the Travelers Guild to bond with their hatchlings. Most recently, eggs have been traded to new colony worlds needing protection from predators or hostile sentients. This guard duty does not seem to trigger their battle lust.

General Description
Boggins are a weird type of magical object that looks like a common fuzzy hat. Their origins are unknown, but they can be found in all parts of the multi-verse; particularly in cooler climates. They are one-size-fits-all and are usually content to be treated as any other hat. They are sensitive to temperature and can adjust their density to suit, becoming thicker or thinner as needed.
NEWS FLASH Recent investigations have discovered a new type of Boggin. These new Boggins have an evil alignment and a deadly nature. It has been determined that evil Boggins have teeth/claws which allow them to firmly attach themselves to their victims. These new evil Boggins are also poisonous, rendering their victims helpless within moments; this poison is also a flesh-eating corrosive.
For your own protection it is advised that no one attempt to bond a Boggin without first checking it for poison. There is no visual method to tell a good/neutral Boggin from an evil Boggin.

Crystal Bees
Created by: Lady Cin
Species type: other
Created on: 06/02/04
Updated on: 06/26/06
General Description
Crystal Bees are native to the alternate dimensional world of Zanarenth. Their exact origin is unknown, but they have been domesticated by the Renthian Dragons for thousands of years. Domesticated Crystal Bees are kept in constructed hives about 20 in diameter and around 10 high; wild Crystal Bees build their hives either underground or in large, hollow trees. The inner walls and chambers of a hive are covered with crystal silk for comfort and as insulation against weather and climate.
Crystal Bees are extremely territorial; there will never be more than one swarm within a hundred mile radius. They are also very protective of their hive; intruders will be subject to attack at the first sign of trouble. Every Crystal Bee is equipped with a stinger (grows back after use) and their sting causes temporary paralysis; multiple stings can cause death due to asphyxiation.
Crystal Bees make honey like honeybees, but also produce crystal silk. This material is highly prized by civilized folk, being very strong but feather light and soft. Its natural color is a pale, shimmering gray but can be dyed to any color. Clothing made from crystal silk looks like it has been made out of liquid gems and shines like glass. Crystal silk never wears out or tears by accident and it takes deliberate effort and a very sharp instrument to cut it, but the weave is so soft that a needle meets almost no resistance when used.
Crystal Bees look like an enormous, rainbow colored honeybee. They can be any color and they glisten like glass in sunlight. The queen actively controls the population of the hive; eggs can be kept in storage until needed in a type of suspended animation caused by combination of temperature, darkness and moisture. Bonded queens willingly produce new swarms for their bondmate to distribute, but only with the promise that the new swarm will not live anywhere nearby.
Color/Gender/Variety/Type Specifics
Queen female; can decide sex/type of each egg laid; can cause drones to change into queens or princes
Prince male; his only job is to mate with the queen
Drones male/female; infertile until changed by the queen; their jobs are to maintain the hive, organize the workers, direct the spinners/weavers & workers, decide how much crystal silk needs to be made and take care of the Queens physical needs
Spinners genderless; have two appendages called spinnerets which extrude the crystal silk thread
Weavers genderless; have extra long front legs with hands to weave with and build their looms
Workers genderless; gather food for the hive, make the honey, transport and place the crystal silk, repair damage to the hive, clean the hive

Crystal Shrieks
Created by: Lady Cin
Species type: weird
Created on: 01/29/04
Updated on: 07/07/06
General Description
Crystal Shrieks were discovered the hard way; someone disturbed a nest and caused them to sound off. When touched, a Crystal Shriek emits a high pitched sound which is quite painful to hear. This shriek is their primary and best defense mechanism against predators. Although they look like a clear crystal or gemstone, their bodies are actually very soft and vulnerable. Subterranean predators who arent scared off by the noise have learned that Crystal Shrieks are not only helpless, but tasty. Crystal Shrieks have legs which enable them to move or climb slowly, and delicate wings which enable them to fly for short distances, but neither method of locomotion is fast enough to escape predators.
Crystal Shrieks are native to the alternate dimensional world of Zanarenth, and can be found in most subterranean places near fresh water. Without a source of fresh water, Crystal Shrieks could not survive; fresh water provides them with most of their nutrients and a place to rest comfortably, plain air supplies everything else they need. The body of a Crystal Shriek is covered by a soft shell which is faceted like a gemstone, but easily pierced. This shell is transparent, allowing the inner body to be seen through it. The inner body consists of some type of fluid, which can be in various colors; how this fluid gives them sentience is a complete mystery. There is a circular band of metallic seeming material around their middle, giving them the appearance of a jeweled brooch. This band is actually the legs and wings in their folded positions; the four legs are multi-jointed like a spiders and the wings are as thin as tissue. Two legs and one wing grow from either side of the body, each leg is about 4 inches long, the wing is circular and about 2 inches in diameter.
The accidental discovery of these creatures was a near disaster. Miners working in a deep ore shaft, broke into a small cavern with an underground stream running through it. The stream was a nesting site, and when the miners disturbed the eggs the thousands of shrieks were deafening. The miners tried to leave the creatures alone, but the noise and vibration from the mining itself were disturbing the creatures. Unable to continue working and unsure of what they could do, they appealed to the Free Worlds Consortium for aid. The FWC investigated and sent in a special consultant; a deaf xenozoologist. After several days inside the mine, she came out covered with Crystal Shrieks. She had discovered how to tame them; you have to hold them, without damaging them, until they accept your touch and quit shrieking. This discovery led to another and their telepathic Mind Merge and actual sentience were also recorded. Crystal Shriek Mind Merges are like being in two places at once, only one place will have no sound; they can only relay visual imagery and no other sensory input.

Crystal Snakes

Species type: reptile

Updated on: 07/07/06
General Description
Crystal Snakes are native to the alternate dimensional world of Zan'arenth. An elusive creature, Crystal Snakes spend most of their lives Phasing through solid rock. It is speculated that this is their feeding method, allowing them to absorb nutrients directly from the rocks themselves. Crystal Snakes seem to come in many sizes, but for simplicities sake they have been classified as three varieties small, medium & large, based solely on the length of the specimen. Whether these classifications are accurate is unknown, it may be that they are born small and just keep growing.
Crystal Snakes may be related to Crystal Shrieks, both species are a type of fluid life form surrounded by a rigid but soft outer shell. The shell of a Crystal Snake is like a flexible membrane with a pattern of scales etched into it; their fangs are also a part of the shell. Only one part of a Crystal Snake is actually solid, their eyes; the eyes look like crystal orbs. When a Crystal Snake dies, the body disintegrates into dust leaving only the eyes behind.
One of the more mysterious aspects of a Crystal Snake is its gender. Males and females have no visible differences; you can identify pregnant females the eggs will be visible through her shell. Crystal Snakes mate in groups of anywhere from 5 to 50 individuals, the group comes together in a constantly moving sphere of bodies which may stay together for hours at a time. Females lay their eggs underwater (fresh water), most often in subterranean environments; once she has clutched, the eggs are abandoned. Around six months later, the eggs will float to the surface and hatch; the snakelets inside instinctively know how to survive.

Crystalings
Created by: Lady Cin
Species type: magic item
Created on: 02/19/04
Updated on: 07/07/06
General Description
Crystalings were first discovered in the Dimension Peaks; a vast mountain range within the pocket dimension of Meridian. They have since been located on many worlds throughout the multi-verse, wherever there is a high gemstone concentration. Crystalings are a parasitic life form which become useful symbionts when bonded by other beings. In their unbonded form, they resemble a disk-shaped gemstone about the size of a quarter; once bonded, they appear as a crystalline pattern of colored lines on their bondmates upper chest and/or lower neck.
In the beginning, Crystalings were classified as a dangerous mineral and possible life form. This misconception was due to the unique method a Crystaling uses to bond with other beings. When a Crystaling comes in contact with a living being, it causes total and instant paralysis; depending on the circumstances, this sudden loss of function can be lethal (falling, drowning, exposure, attacks by wild animals). The paralysis will last until symbiosis is complete; anywhere from 3 to 7 days. On contact, the Crystaling is absorbed into the host body and dissolves through the bloodstream, altering the host in subtle ways at a molecular level. When symbiosis is complete, a pattern of lines appear on the upper chest and/or lower neck of the host; the color and pattern of the lines determines the benefits gained from the bonding.
Crystalings feed on their hosts blood, taking no more than is needed for them to survive. Any normal being can support one Crystaling without any ill effects; attempts to bond more than one will either; a) fail with no ill effects, or b) cause death due to massive blood loss. However, there is an exception magic; wizards, witches, sorcerers and other magic users can bond multiple Crystalings who are able to feed on their magic directly. The more magical a being is, the more Crystalings they can support, but how many is too many is not predictable and exceptionally risky. Each additional Crystaling causes another period of paralysis to complete the symbiotic process; if the new Crystaling is one too many, the host will die. Each additional Crystaling bonded could also change the Pattern of the previous bond; the Pattern could stay the same, change to a new Pattern or be multiple patterns overlapping each other each with its own Type/Power.

Crystalings are genderless and reproduce asexually by budding. With bonded Crystalings, the buds will form at the center of their hosts pattern, first appearing as a droplet of liquid which solidifies and drops off in about 10 days. The new Crystalings can be collected and stored in non-organic containers for distribution later. Buds seem to form randomly and cannot be predicted, they just happen. Which Type/Power is produced is completely random.

Demiquines
Created by: Lady Cin
Species type: equine
Created on: 04/30/04
Updated on: 07/07/06
General Description
The exact origin of the Demiquine is unknown; Legend tells us of a wizard who animated a toy horse to entertain his children. But how a single toy horse becomes an entire species is hard to believe and most regard it as simple fantasy. Most Demiquines are now found in the Realms of Faerie, but there are reports of them throughout the multi-verse. Their small size and colorful bodies make them well suited as pets for children; faerie and elven children are known to collect them as well.
Demiquines are rarely over a foot tall when mature, but resemble normal horses in every other respect. Historically, Demiquines came in bright colors like red, yellow and blue with another contrasting color like pink, orange or green. Today, selective breeding has altered this to any color and pattern imaginable, as well as standard horse colors. Some breeders specialize in wild colors and patterns, while others concentrate on a particular color or pattern; needless to say, anything is possible at this time.
Magic is also a part of Demiquine genetics; they are capable of vocal speech, are able to Blink (short range teleport) and are able to fly, even though they dont have wings. How or why they have these abilities is lost in time and Legend. Maybe the stories about their creation are true, but science has not been able to explain it.

Dimension Dragons
Created by: Lady Cin
Species type: dragon
Created on: 04/30/04
Updated on: 07/22/06
General Description
Dimension Dragons are somewhat rare, but they can be found all over the multi-verse. They spend their lives traveling the cosmos, learning new magic and helping in times of disaster. They are most often Good or Neutral in alignment and fight against the forces of Darkness wherever they find them. They are highly magical in nature and actually use magic to fly, instead of their wings which are purely decorative. Most recently, the species has developed a relationship with the Travelers Guild on Draconis 3 and many have become bondmates to its members.
Hatchling Dimension Dragons stay with their parents for up to 100 years, learning how to use their inborn abilities and how to cast spells. While they are always capable of using magic, they must have time to learn what they are best able to do. Some specialize in a single type of magic, while others become generalists; many are capable of reaching arch mage level. Their forelimbs can double as both arms and legs, and are flexible enough to use the complicated gestures of human magic. Those with the ability to shapeshift, have been known to attend humanoid schools of magic.
Most pearls are female (90%), most onyxes are male (90%), so it is not uncommon for mixed pairs to mate. However, in any pearl/onyx clutch about half of the eggs will hatch a neuter mercury, while the rest will hatch about half pearl, half onyx. Mercury Dimension Dragons have an additional magical ability, elementalism; this seems to be in compensation for being infertile. Dimension Dragons of the same color tend to mate for life, mixed color pairs will sometimes separate to seek a breeding partner of their own color. Mixed color pairs in which one is a mercury, must always separate to find a breeding partner. Life partners and breeding partners are just a quirk of Dimension Dragon tradition.
Color/Gender/Variety/Type Specifics
Pearl they are covered with velvety, soft fur that shines luminously. In daylight or full darkness they give off a pale, ghostly white glow; under moonlight, they shine with a pure white light. Their wings are like silken sails with opalescent patterns and ribbon like streamers on the trailing edge. They have soft, silky chin whiskers and a tuft on the end of their long, whip like tails. When a Pearl Travels, they disappear in a flash of blinding white light.
Onyx they have smooth hides which feel and look like flexible black glass. In daylight or full darkness they give off an eerie purple radiance; under moonlight, they glow bright blue. Their wings are angular and look like sheets of glass, with sharp edges and knife-like extensions on the finger bones and elbow joint. Two slender, foot long spikes grow up from the top of their skull and their short, thick tail has a spiked ball on the end. When an Onyx Travels, they seem to disappear into a collapsing black hole.
Mercury neuter, infertile; they are covered with tiny fish-like scales that shine like mirrors. In daylight or full darkness they seem to sparkle, reflecting light from any source; in moonlight, they shine like a spotlight on a mirror globe. Their wings resemble elongated fins with rippled edges. They have a patch of tendrils growing under their chins, up along their jaw line and across the top of their skulls and their tail is fluked. When a Mercury Travels, they seem to be riding through water in a pipe.

General Description
Elemental Bears were created ages ago by the druids of Meridian, to help them in their work and to assist in battle. There are 8 varieties of Elemental Bears, each controlling a different element. They have long, shaggy fur which matches their element, eyes like jewels and razor sharp teeth, fangs and claws that also look like jewels.
All varieties can control their element in a 1 mile radius and can intensify the effect in a 10 foot radius. When they stand erect, they can clap their front paws together and shoot an elemental bolt. Each variety also has a stunning roar that they can use once per day.
Elemental Bears must be bonded, either to a bondmate or their mother. Their breeding is strictly controlled by the Druid Circle of Meridian. Elemental Spirit Bears are extremely rare and there is only a 2% chance of a Spirit cub being born in any litter, they can be born to any of the other Elemental Bear varieties; Elemental Spirit bears are always sterile. All varieties except the Spirit are fertile with each other and the cubs type is determined by the number of cubs born. If only one cub is born, it will be of its mothers type; if two cubs are born, there will be one of the mothers type and one of the fathers type. Spirit bears will only happen in a 2 cub litter and the first cub will be of the mothers variety.

Fairy Wolves resemble normal Terran wolves in shape, but are vastly different. They grow no larger than a fox hound; they are all colors of the rainbow; they have fairy wings; and the alpha males/females are born such, since they do not fight amongst themselves. They are not normally agressive at all and will only attack to defend their young. Adults will use their innate magical abilities to leave the scene of any confrontation not involving their families.
Ordinarily, their coats will be many shades of a single color with dappled, stripped or brindle markings. Their fur is about three inches long on their backs, shorter on the legs, smooth around the face and about six inches long in their ruff and tails. The fur is silky soft and somewhat fluffy, but not poodle-like. Alpha males are marked with a silver ruff, while Alpha females have a golden ruff.

They actively seek to help all intelligent beings and can appear at need. Fire Kin have been known to show up in emergency situations and save the day; by kindling a fire in wet wood to save a person from freezing, by re-lighting a torch which has gone out in dark places, by keeping a fire burning when there is no more fuel for it, etc.
One of the favorite situations for a Fire Kin is as the hearth fire of someones home. If that home has several fireplaces, they can split off pieces of themselves to be the flame in all of them, each piece still being part of the whole. Flame Lizards are native to the Elemental Plane of Fire, but they are not true elementals. They are mortal creatures which must eat and breed to survive. Their lifespan varies; on the elemental plane they live only around 10 years, on the prime material plane they can live to be 100 or more. When they hatch they are only about six inches long but they never stop growing; once they reach maturity they can alter their size as needed. The largest recorded Flame Lizard was 60 long and was thought to be over 100 years old.
Flame Lizards have extremely hard scales and are immune to all natural and magical fire damage. They are warm to the touch when calm but can set stone on fire when they are angry. They come in five colors; red, orange, yellow, blue and white with no gender related issues. Females lay their eggs in a bed of live coals and the eggs must be kept hot, at hatching the nest should actually be on fire. Bonded hatchlings should be kept in a fire pit or other hot enclosure for at least the first six weeks while they learn to control their temperature and abilities. A bonded Flame Lizard will never burn their bondmate and can share their fire immunity with their bondmate when they are in physical contact with one another.

General Description
Frost Wolves normally live anywhere there is snow and/or ice, but they can survive anywhere. They live in packs of up to 50, of which the majority will be female and led by an alpha male. Lesser males can stay with the pack and are important to the packs survival, but only the alpha male breeds with all the females. When a pack becomes too large it will spilt into two or sometimes three smaller packs; the lesser males will fight amongst themselves to become the alpha of the new pack(s). Lesser males sometimes leave the pack and form all male packs.
Like all wolves, Frost Wolves hunt to survive but they kill only what they need and never for pleasure. The pack moves constantly and co-operates with other packs to make sure they do not over hunt any area. While each pack is independent, packs will join each other to overcome a large menace. In times of lean hunting, packs will often split into smaller groups and move far apart in order to take advantage of what prey is available.
Frost Wolves use their magic to protect themselves; they can make their fur glow to make themselves look dangerous or when that doesnt work they will attempt to cause fear in their adversary. They will only attack as a last resort and only if they think they have a chance to win. When they think they are outclassed they will flee; an individual will return and bring the pack to confront the threat, packs will flee until they find enough other packs to overcome the threat.

General Description
Furry Flyers are a mutation of the standard flitt that have recently been discovered in the pocket dimension of Meridian. Originally thought to be a weird species of bat, the discovery of a nest and clutch of eggs buried on the beach at Spice Castle has brought this variety to the public. The hatchlings of this clutch proved capable of bonding and they have become very popular companions. One other distinction of the Furry Flyer is that they do not have the ability to breathe fire.
In appearance, Furry Flyers are shaped like a standard flitt but their entire body is covered in fur. Males have short, smooth fur while females have long, silky fur; queens have a crest of white fur on their heads. There seems to be no color distinctions between genders and their colors range from blacks, grays, whites and every shade of brown. Males tend to darker colors than females but this is not absolute, the only gender distinction being the queens white crest.

Guardian Bears were created eons ago as protectors of innocents. Their types and functions have changed over time and there are now five different types, each with its own specialty. They do however have some abilities in common; all are Good, they have the ability to detect lies and perceive the intent of others and they are loyal to their bondmate until death. Each variety can be distinguished from their non-magical species by their eyes; Guardian Bears have gem-like eyes, each variety having a different color/type.
Polar Protector: the largest variety. Like their polar bear counterparts, they have pure white fur and can be up to 15 tall when they stand erect. Their eyes are like diamonds and shine with a white light when they are actively protecting their bondmate. They have the additional ability to protect their bondmate from any type of cold, natural or magical.
Guardian Grizzly: dark brown with gray markings; up to 10 tall when erect. They have amber eyes which glow yellow. Able to grant their bondmate superhuman strength.
Guardian Black: black with tan markings; up to 8 tall when erect. They have sapphire eyes which glow blue. Able to protect their bondmate from any type of energy, natural or magical.
Guardian Brown: brown with cream markings; up to 8 tall when erect. They have ruby eyes which glow red. Able to protect their bondmate from any type of fire, natural or magical.
Guardian Teddy: the smallest and rarest variety; up to 4 tall when erect. They come in many colors from normal bear colors to all colors of the rainbow. They have emerald eyes which glow green. They bond exclusively to children and protect them by hugging the child and turning them both invisible, then moving them away from the danger. When their bondmate reaches maturity a Guardian Teddy transforms into one of the other Guardian types; 50% brown, 30% black, 15% grizzly, 5% polar.

Ice Kittens are native to the pseudo-elemental plane of Ice, but can be found wherever it is cold. They are especially fond of snowy mountains and deep cave systems where it never gets warm. Ice Kittens crave affection and will go to great lengths to find a bondmate, even risking their lives. Their ability to detect magic usually leads them to magic users or those with innate magic, hopefully with the power to protect them from melting.
