Theme songs for characters and stories?

Several times now I found that some characters have "theme songs", a melody that reminds me of them. Some of my stories do too...and sometimes even some events IN a story!

If so, what music do they usually "choose"?

Mine...well, it's mostly instrumental...New Age, Classical, Jazz and even some from artists like Vanessa Mae and Bond! :roll:

Depends on the character, and the story. MOST of the music for Oisinn Droicht is very Celtic in flavor. HOWEVER, I was listening to Duran Duran's "Hungry Like The Wolf" and thought of Jenna Fael.

I have a character based in part on MacGyver (can jury-rig just about anything), Michael Knight (from Knight Rider, certain mannerisms), but with certain attitudes re-adjusted. (After Stargate SG-1 came out and I compared him to Jack O'Niell, I realized that my character is much like Mac and Jack combined. (Jury-rigger/weapons expert. What MacGyver might have been if he didn't have that "I don't like guns" attitude.

Whenever I write him and he's doing his hero thing, I always tend to mentally hear the theme song from MacGyver. It's kind of exciting and when it's working right everything flows smoothly.

Other character may get a musical bit sometimes, but the character described above is the only one, (at the present), that seems to have his own theme song.

That only happens with AMC books and other books, but not my own stories. They're just not characterized or written well enough :O

Sometimes I hear a song and think, "That rather works for so-and-so", but I try not to make up 'soundtracks' because inevitably they don't go the way the story goes. Sometimes a particular movie soundtrack fits the mood I'm in and that helps me write, but it's not really a theme song. (Lately it's Star Wars music.)

Edited to at that I did find myself putting Matchbox 20's "Unwell" ("I'm not crazy/I'm just a little unwell/I know/right now you can't tell..") on while writing the last section of my fic Brothers in Arms. (http://annemccaffreyfans.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3887) It just seemed to work.

I think of Celtic traditional music with one Pern fanfic character, Melody. When I think of Melody and T'ran together, I think that their theme song "Hungry Like the Wolf".;) I also think of that song while I'm writing about mating flights. When I think of T'ran by himself...hmm... I'll have to get back to you on that.;)
