On the one side you have the extremists. People who believe that women who exist only to ride gold dragons, or to breed more riders. People who believe that bronzeriders are inherently superior to any other colour. People who will use violence to accentuate this point. People who believe that the end justifies the means and that some times people just have to be sacrificed.

On the other side you have... the *other* extremists. People who believe in equality - that women are equal to men, that greenriders are equal to bronzeriders. People who will use violence to accentuate this point. People who believe that the end justifies the means and that some times people just have to be sacrificed.

And in the middle you have the vast majority of the people. People who think that extremists from both sides are scary. People who mind their tongues so as not to get hurt. People who'll say what they think - but only quietly in case someone disagrees with them and offence is taken. People who are just trying to survive in day to day life.

In a Weyr like this politics touches everyone. The only question is how much.

Throw into the equation thirteen Eggs. No gold Egg which means that girls will be strongly discouraged from standing. Add a variety of male Candidates whose position in life will be decided in the course of one fateful Hatching. Maybe they'll Impress bronze or brown and be leaders, forced into the public eye for the rest of their lives. Maybe they'll be blue or green and see any ambitions they had of leading vanish away. Maybe they'll Impress nothing at all and live out their days as nothing more than a drudge.

The stakes are high. For thirteen Candidates, one way or another the world is about to change.

Wouldn't you like to be one of them?

A shameful bump and a fan letter.

I'm too scared to join your Weyr, but I really like the ideas and plotlines. :)
