View Full Version : Official Dragon*Con Roll Call

All right, kids, let's hear it. If you're going, then pipe up and tell us where you'll be staying, how long you'll be there, who, if anyone, is coming with you, and if you've been before.
For my part:
I'm staying at the Hyatt from September 1-5. As yet, I have no roommate, but am presently in the market for one (http://annemccaffreyfans.org/forum/showthread.php?p=152714#post152714). This will be my third consecutive year at D*C, fourth year overall (I attended in 2000 and then didn't go again until 2002), and my second consecutive year as Staff at WeyrFest. Last year I was a panelist on the DragonSex and Villains panels, as well as a participant in the Not-Yet-Ready for Journemen Players improv sketch-- which is always a lot of fun. :> Looking forward to going again!

I'll be arriving Delta Flt 428 @ 3:40pm (just in case anyone's at the airport at that time) Thursday. Staying at the Mariott with Dall and leaving Monday evening 8:38pm.
It'll be my third consecutive year also.
Hey, is there gonna BE a Not-Yet-Ready for Journemen Players play this year? Two years ago it was pant-wetting funny, but sorry last year not so much. Nevermind, let's not gum up this thread with chit-chat.

I'm all set. Ranae and I are gonna drive from Colorado and be there on the 1st leaving on the 6th right after breakky. So far there is 3 in our room but I'm reserving the fourth space for Rusty in case she can make it.
So we still got room for one more if anyone wants it. Check the thread in the gather section titled Dragoncon Roomies for more info. Thanks.

We (me, LL, BM, & H) arrive on Wednesday 31st, touching down in Atlanta around 4.35pm local time. We're in the Marriott & will be there until Wednesday 7th. It'll be our second D*C (last year being the first) :)

I'll be arriving sometime on Wednesday and leaving early on Tuesday. Staying in the Marriot on the lowest floor possible (**** elevators and vertigo don't mix). Are you still on staff at Weyrfest, Cat/Cav? <Just reread your post and am smacking myself on the forehead> I dunno if I'm to do the costume panel or not, as I haven't heard from Steve yet. *cough* kinda need to if I'm going to actually make costumes as examples...
Any idea what's actually ON schedule this year? Other than the parade, of course. Which I doubt I'll be marching in.
must...make...banners... :banghead: Cuz, you know, I'm so bored since I have NOTHING to do. [/sarcasm]
Ian
6th June 2005, 08:40 PM
From what Cat/Cav was telling me in KTL the other night Steve hasn't really done anything yet as far as planning panels & events goes  She was going to email him to give him a nudge, after all it's less than 3 months away now!
We've asked for a low floor too, LL doesn't like heights (though she has no problem with flying!).
Aranel
6th June 2005, 09:14 PM
Yeah, I wish he'd get on the ball with it. It takes time to plan out things, not just the presentation and research part, but finding time to make the props! I just hope the track doesn't suffer for it. I REALLY hope he can be his own person and not try to follow too closely in Anna's footsteps. Anna did a wonderful job, but he needs to do his own thing with it. We had more fun in the bar than we did at Weyrfest, last year. That either says we're a bunch of stuck ups or there just wasn't that much going on...
Cavatica
6th June 2005, 09:45 PM
I did, in fact, email Steve. His reply went thusly:
ok... Bill Faucett is on the guest list for dragoncon this year. So
far none of the others [Jody Lynn Nye, Elizabeth Ann Scarborough] have
confirmed for this years dragoncon.
Second, I would like to do Not ready for journeyman players again, so
unless something happens we will.
Third, website... ok.. that is on my list of things I want and will
do, however, it will be after this years dragoncon.. probably early
October before it goes up. The reason for this is I will have a bunch
of new pictures and new information to put up at that time, and, more
importantly, that's when my yearly domain bill occurs, and I would be
able to change it so that I can setup a webpage, rather than just
email hosting.
Fourth, Angel [Hanley, the Director's Second] is helping with the pannel
setup and is trying to
figure out what we should do this year that she feels would be of
interest to the most people.
OK... I hope that answered your questions.. if you have anymore
please email me and I'll be happy to try and answer it.. also
thankyou for the offer of help.
So there you have it.
I'll keep poking him about maybe hosting a website anyway, and keeping in regular contact with his staff, etc.
Aranel
6th June 2005, 10:35 PM
Good! Even a free website, like geocities, would be better than nothing. Just for a web presence, if nothing else, and a tentative schedule of events. Last year, Anna, or someone, set up the message board. That could be an ideal solution this year. Feedback can sometimes be a good thing. ;)

I'm coming with my three kids. Arriving Thursday afternoon/evening, and leaving Monday afternoon. Staying at the Marriott, and I guess I'd better get on the phone with them as I want a lower floor myself.
My postcards ariived in the mail today. :bouncy:
Still am up in the air about a costume, I just cannot pin down what I want to do.

I'll be coming again this year, and so will a friend of mine. We'll be getting there on the 1st and staying until the 6th. :) We missed more than a few panels last year because we'd forgotten to check when they were. Any news on what will be going on this year?

I'm actually getting to go this year for sure(now that I said that something is going to go terribly terribly wrong). I may even have one of my dormmates in tow. I've got my costumes designed and directions on how to get there (not that I wont get lost anyway) Now the only thing standing in my way is 1 the Alabama football game on the 3rd and I need a place to stay, considering that if I do have to go to the football game only be staying 2 or 3 nights. But if I dont have to go then I'll be there straight through :D So I'll see you guys there and if anyone needs another roommate let me know. :good:

Hello, everyone!
2003 was my first D*C, missed last year due to best friend's wedding (a good cause!), and am looking forward to going this year!! First time, I went alone and had a lot of freedom to attend any panel I wanted, and talked to a lot of new people. This year, I'm going with a good friend, hoping to get costumes done in time. (Didn't get to do it first time around, will try to be on top of things this time.)
Are there any musicians in the bunch? I guess Opland-Freeman aren't gonna be there (according to their site, they're in Ireland in September!) and I'll miss the music/Harper Hall aspects of the paneling. (I'm biased, I'm a singer.) Anyone interested in making some music in their absence?
Looking forward to it!

lol...ok...I'll tease some more. I have the front and back of the torso piece (what is that called? A cuiress?) almost ready to paint. And they look freaking awesome!!!!
I wanted to do that first cause that is the hardest part and if that didn't work then I could just as well scrap the whole costume. I am very, very excited about it now.
Even my husband - Mr. Can't Be Done - is surprised at how good it looks.
After the paper mache' I put a thin layer of wood filler over the whole thing...saneded it...and now I have the second layer on it. I do want some dents and stuff in it...so it isn't perfectly smooth. But DAMN! I'm a happy camper.
Course now that I said that it will all fall apart!

Of course it was :) I for one will never forget Catalina's immortal cry of "make it so I like Dick" :bouncy:
Which reminds me, Anna and Pam between them were supposed to be making the 2003 NYRFJP available on video or DVD. Anyone know whether that ever happened? It was my first (and so far only) D*C :( and I'd love to have a record of it, particularly as I rashly volunteered to be involved when Angel said she desperately needed other players :D

Jeffrey555, Blueyedragon, and I will be attending 9/1-5. We are staying at Microtel Inn & Suites. It is about 8 miles away, but even with parking charges near Dragon*Con, $44 a night for all 3 of us for a room with a microwave and refridgerator is too good a deal to pass up. SORRY-I made the reservations the beginning of the year and understand there are no longer rooms available. However if by chance anyone else is in the area let us know.

Parking charges need not be expensive. Since you are driving, maybe try this: The Courtland Garage - get off I-75/85 (Southbound) at Courtland Street (I believe it's exit 249D) At the top of the ramp you will be in front of the Hilton (on your left). Get over to the left as soon as possible (this can be tricky) and the parking garage is on the left about another block down (greyish metal latticework) turn left into there. I believe it was $6.00 for the day last year on Saturday and Sunday (Friday was more expensive as it is a workday). If you drive up to the sixth or seventh floor, there is a covered skyway over to the Peachtree Mall and D*C, or park on the ground floor and D*C (I forget whether it is the Hyatt or Mariott part) is caticorner from the garage opposite the Hilton.
Another possibility is to Take Marta (Metro Atlanta Rapid Tansit Authority), but that all depends upon how close your hotel is to a station and how much gear/costuming you have. Check out Marta (http://www.itsmarta.com/), D*C is at Station N1 (Peachtree Center)

I was at Dragon*Con last year with my amputee mother and her electric wheel chair. I think I used the same garage you're talking about. It worked great! That one and the one lot just up the street were even cheaper if you entered by 9am. (I think that was the time?)

The costume I have this year isn't fancy just something cobbled together.
Halloween things should be either out or VERY soon out... even if you have a couple accessories.
It isn't *about* the costume. MANY people don't participate in that aspect. It's going and enjoying the whole, wacky ,wonderful experience. And getting together with old and meeting new friends is the most important part.

Mae, if you feel like it, bring your SCA stuff anyway and maybe, if it fits, I can get it from you for a reasonable price? If you are a size or few sizes larger than I am, I know someone else who might want to get them from you if you don't want them anymore.

The ones I wore at Halloween, I put on sort of like a headband -- not the plastic kind, but the fabric kind you put over your entire head and then pull your hair through. I just didn't pull ALL my hair through, so the hair in front of the elastic disguised it. I think it worked pretty well.

What size clothing do you normally wear, Maedhbh? (see, I spellededed it!) That could narrow it down quite a bit.
*digs through closet*
I might have SOMETHING you could fit into. Hafta see.
Oooh and to add, I put my oriental costume from last year together at the last minute, literally, the very day before I left, by hitting a thrift store. You never know what you'll find.

What size clothing do you normally wear, Maedhbh? (see, I spellededed it!) ...
Yes, dear. I noticed right off. Thank you!
Size? Umm, I have dresses ranging from size 3 to 6 or 8. I think. I don't really pay much attention to it. And I'm pretty sure the size 3 only still fits because it's stretchy material. I think one in that size in say broadcloth wouldn't fit. I think my pants are size 8 or 10. Depends on who makes it. Oh, and LONG. I can't wear short anything. Too long legged/armed I guess. I'm not really much help in this am I? LOL
I found a store last night that sells used saris. Think I'll go see what they have and see if I can get Kris to remind me how to wear one. I've never worn one before. Just tried one of hers on once.
