This thread is not about what you thought it was going to be about! Ah ha! ;) :D I got in the car yesterday morning and put the key in the ignition and it suddenly occurred to me to wonder . . . there must be millions and millions of cars in the world, and trucks, and SUV's, etc. Now, my car key won't turn on my husband's car, or my neighbor's car, or the car that belongs to the stranger I pass as I'm driving to work (at least I assume it won't), so does every single car have a unique ignition key, and if so considering how many cars there are, how is this possible! Anyone have an answer for me? Is there a car out there somewhere that if I went up to it, my key would fit? Now, maybe they can make them by computer design now, but that's only been available for a relatively short time compared to how long cars have been around. What about before then?

make a slight change somewhere on the metal, and make the lock accordingly and there is your unique key. Alot of the keys out there could fit each other's locks... but they won't turn them because of that slight difference

ah, so each key AND ignition are slightly different? Thanks!

Next question, and this is a silly one. Driving along the highways, especially in northern New England, upstate New York, there are signs that say "Deer Crossing". Some of them even have things like "next 1, 2, 1 1/2 miles, 'whatever'" on them. I wanna know, when did deer learn to read so they would follow the "strict" street crossing guidelines that our generous highway departments have provided for them!? :redfruit:

OKay, I'm out of questions. Anyone else got one? :bouncy:

No, but I can add something to your first question. ;)

Nowadays you have electronic keys or no keys at all! You have a Transponder Card that recognises a unique frequency and unloks the car as you approach. All you have to do is get in and push a button! :good: Without the card ain't no WAY you'll drive the car away. Not even hotwiring it will do you any good because everything is now controlled by a computer.

I was a deer crossing near one of those signs once it was a big stag with antlers ans stuff so maybe they can read they just don't want you to know.

We took our Ford to be serviced one day. (Mathew works for em in the puter dept upstairs). The boys got the car ready and left the keys in the ignition. Then one of the boys used an electronic key to unlock another car and you guessed it......our car locked.

We got a loan car that night so Mathew could take my keys in the next day and unlock our car.
