Of ALL? "Renegades of Pern." Or possibly "Skies", except RoP is more frustrating because of the wasted potential.
Of the non-Pern books? Hm. I couldn't say. There aren't any Ship books Anne herself was involved in that I didn't enjoy, and I haven't really gotten far enough into other series to make a call.

I was pretty disappointed with the last two or three Acorna books.

I don't like the Acorna books :( And I wasn't very keen on the PTB series either...
Of Anne's written alone works, my least favourite of the Pern series is Skies of Pern, it just didn't grab me in the way the earlier episodes did. :(

The Acorna series to me is the worst, the first two books were ok but after them I just lost interest, in fact it is on only series I have which isn't complete. Maybe I should buy the missing ones for completeness.

I don't really like the Freedom series much, okay, I don't like it at all. The premise is okay, but on the whole I find most of the characters really obnoxious after the first book. I also don't like Niminsha's Ship, because, basically, it's old territory, and that whole "soil makes me have litters infant spawn" really rubs me wrong. It's bad enough she has to turn most female characters into baby machines, but this goes beyond verging into the total embrace of utter stupidity. I like kids, but not when they're coming out like circus clowns out of a minicar.

I have Acorna on my bookshelf but just cannot get into it. Last time I tried it I got to page 30, it is rare for me to start a book and not finish it.

Renegades of Pern and Skies of Pern for me. Just.. Ew. Dolphins is up there, but not as much as the other two; its only saving grace for me is the scene where Lessa tries to pronounce dolphins.

Dinosaur Planet Survivors. I hated the last half. I know it ties in with the Planet Pirates, but it KILLED any sense of climax with Sassinak swooping in, after that it was so boring and blah, when it could have been much more exciting with the Survivors battling the Pirates themselves and foiling their plans.

I admit that I only liked the first two Acorna books, which depressed me, because I really, really liked them. Ah well :)

I've read all of Pern, Tallented, and Brainship, as well as most of Acorna (I'm in the middle of Acorna's World at the moment) and some short stories. Of these I'd have to say that my least favorites were PartnerShip and Nerilka's Story. PartnerShip just dragged. The story never really caught my interest and Nancia was just too good and drove me crazy. I'm not really sure why I disliked Nerilka. Too short perhaps? Or a decided lack of dragon and rider interaction? That's one of the things I love in the Pern books and there was hardly any in Nerilka. (odd, since there was also hardly any in Dragons Kin and I enjoyed that one)
And unlike most of you, I liked Renegades, probably because I love all those little details and hearing the same story over and over from about five or six different points of view.

"All the Weyrs of Pern". I found it much too technical and not enough draconic-focused. It was extremely dull.
Kaoru
9th November 2005, 08:22 PM
mine is ATWoP. too technical for me....
I'll agree, but for different reasons. I love the technology. One of the reasons I love the First Pass; you get to see how the dragons were created, what technology the colonists brough with them, etc.
With All the Weyrs, I didn't like the feel of the story. Here we have the heads of the planet--people who have always beforehand looked over every possibility before heading into a situation. Now all of a sudden, they all blindly follow a giant talking computer. I'm..sorry. Did senility hit when I wasn't looking? :redfruit:

I never got Legends II....what was the short story about?
Can't really say without ruining it. It's taken place directly after Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern, though.

I have tried and tried to read Freedom's Ransom. I just can't get into it. It just isn't an easy read. It should have focused on finding out about the farmers. Also there is the big mistake in it. At the End of Freedom's Challenge it says that the Farmers removed all their equipment except what the people had modified, then suddenly its all back and they are raiding some of the Farmers' stores to get supplies? Challenge was very clear that they took everything including their stores so that the humans could spread out more.

I have read all of Pern, Most of Acorna and Rowan, I liked them all, I think my least favourite would be the last part of "The Chronicles of Pern" The section titled Rescue Run the rest of the book i liked though :D

Dunno hw I missed this one last year!
My least favourite has to be Renegades. I own all the Pern books, the Crystal Singer ones, The Tower and The Hive ones, the Acorna ones and a single ones like Restoree and a Doona one. I also have Legends II.
The only book I have not read more than once EVER is Renegades. I bought it for completeness.
In other books I absolutely LOATHE dragons blood. I do NOT like it at all, but then you were talking Anne books so I won't go into reasons why ;)

Yeah, well Nimisha wasn't too crazy about having twins, much less triplets - it's not like she would have chosen that! Which makes it very different.

Petaybee, any of them. It's the only series I have never managed to get through. I got about two thirds through the first book and lost interest. I didn't much like the premise, the characters or the plot.
Among the pern books my least favorite would be Renegades of Pern. I wish she had tacked on the last chapter about finding AIVAS on to TWD and toss the rest out. The only good things about Renegades were AIVAS and discovering the way the average people of Pern live, and the downside of Pern: the Holdless and the "highwaymen". I knew they had to be there, Pern is not a utopia, but we had never seen them before.

The "body heir" stories, and Beyond Between - I really disliked that one. It hinted at things without giving any satisfactory insight. In fact, apart from the Runner story, I didn't care for A Gift of Dragons at all.

I couldn't get into the Acorna series at all - I still have a few, because of my complete inability to part with books, but I don't like them. I wasn't a great fan of the PTB books either. I'm also leery of anything Todd McCaffrey - nothing against him, but it all just smacks of 'The NEW Virginia Andrews TM' type.

I read the first Acorna but for some reason just couldn't get into it so I haven't bothed to read any more of the series.
I think I read most of her other books including the one about the horses for Arthur which was really enjoyable

i think my least favorite book was Crystal Line. It was great, but it just made my so angry. Or Killsandra's behavior made me angry, I just kept wanting to throw the book across the room, but i couldn't stop reading. I'll have to think some more about the other books. I generally enjoy all anne's books, but haven't read all of them yet.

I usually like just about all of Anne's books but the one I just hated was "All the Weyrs of Pern" It was just ver boring, I never finished it, and I usually finish all the books I start, just to finish them.

"Acorna" just seemed really stupid, to me. I never was interested in the Dinosaur books or the PTB or really, any of her other series.
Renegades of Pern was dumb, as was Nerilka's story, and All the Weyrs of Pern.
I actually liked Dolphins of Pern, but then again, I also liked the Masterharper of Pern...
