View Full Version : Avatar needed

I have this really funny idea for an animated avatar, but can't make them myself because I don't have the right program  . I already have all the pics (5 total) and 'script' I need for it ready. Would someone who can make an animated avatar with animated text please help me? I'm begging. Pretty please?
I'll go ahead and post the stuff here. If at all possible, I'd like the text in the word bubble thingies (couldn't find any pics w/o them). I had to erase the words because they blurred in scanning. The first one needs to say "Sit Boy!", the second "Sit Boy!!". I'll have to put the other 3 in two more posts.

3rd needs to say "SIT!!!" 4th "Gah!" (weird yes, but that's what it said in the comic  )

This 5th one needs to say "Ah...Oww..."
I would REALLY, REALLY, REALLY appreciate it if someone could help me out with this. :)

I took a look at the pictures and noticed that the dimensions of the images are all different sizes. Whoever does this for you will have to either crop four of the images to size of the smallest one, or will have to make some other size adjustment.
Something else too. Each individual image added to an animated .gif will make the file larger. Animated text as opposed to static text will also increase the file size. Are you sure you want the text animated? If so, animated in what manner? Fade in-fade out? Each letter appearing as if they are being typed? Just sitting there but the color changing?
Or do you want the artist that takes this on to...get creative?

I scanned them out of my little brother's animanga books. I tried to keep them close in size, but I guess I didn't do too well  . I don't have any photoediting software, so I don't think I can crop them  . I'll look all thru my computer for something though; there may just be a trial version for some editing software.
The text doesn't have to be moving; I just meant drawn in somehow. The text scanned in blurry and was impossible to read.

Okay, the text shouldn't be a problem. You probably don't have to resize the images yourself. Whoever does this can undoubtedly to that. Although that could be a help.
Oh, one more thing, do you want the text overlapping the graphics or maybe underneath the graphic like a caption?

Okay. So I decided to take a crack at this. The file size is 49.3 KB and the dimensions are 137x110. The avatar size limits on this board are "100 by 100 pixels or 64.0 KB (whichever is smaller)" according to what it says in the CP.

The program I used for this reduced the colors in the image as it exported an animated .gif. I'm blaming that on why the images, especially the last one, are darker in color.

You did a better job than I did Wolfegar, I can't even get the size under a meg. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: And I've been trying all morning.

Well, it's under a meg now, but still too large for the NKT size limit.

Dang, the smallest I can get it is 212kb. Sorry Levallia, I tried. :sorry:
And that size is even too big to post just so you can see my effort

I did better than you? :faint: *Wonders how that happened.*
For those who may be interested....
I used ULead's ImagePal, (it came with my scanner way back when), to crop the images Levallia provided. I got the horizontal measurement and the vertical measurement from the images that had shortest one of each to set the rectangular selection tool to a specific size. Then I cropped each image down to that size.
I then opened up Webster, by Xara, and pasted each image, in order, into each frame. Then I just had to do the text, adjust the timing delay, save it and then export an animated .gif.
The image I posted above, is the one that worked best at the default settings.

Well, I used Adobe Photoshop CS2 and Adobe Premier 6. I used CS2 to add the text into each pic then imported each picture into the Premier timeline, hacked at it with the razor tool until each pic was too small to cut anymore then exported it out as an animated .gif
Premier automatically adjusted the pics to be the same size.
Unfortunately The smallest I could get the file size was 212kb at a frame size of 97x70something (can't remember the width size).
Oh, I'm sure if I kept reducing the frame size, I could eventually get the file size down enough, but it would probably end up being too small where you couldn't see the text.

Did I do something wrong? It saved into 'My Pictures' properly, but when I set it as my avatar, it doesn't move. What did I do?

I presume you right clicked on the image and selected save picture as.
Did you save it as a .gif type? I know sometimes I.E. wants to save the files as a .bmp instead.
Here it is in a .zip file you can download.

You uncompressed the .zip file to get to the .gif file inside, right?

The .zip file is a compressed archive. Save it as it is. Then go to where you saved it and double click it.
I hope you've got WinZip (http://www.winzip.com/) or some other unzipping (uncompressing) software.
If you'd prefer I just email the file to you, PM me your email addy.

I do save it as it is; it says that it's zip, but then when I check it later, it's gif
I don't think I have that software, and I have no idea how to figure out if I do. :erm:
I'll do that. Thank you so much, Wolfie! :D I hope I haven't been too much of a pain in the arse  .

PM answered and email sent.
I sent you the .gif file. As I stated in the email, if it still doesn't work properly, it may be that vBulletin is resizing the image or doing something to it when you upload it. (I'm not sure how the board is set up to handle the images uploaded as avatars.) I'm surprised it didn't work the first time though.

I just did a test by uploading the original image as my own avatar. It does the same thing for me that it's doing for you. The board must be set to autosize the image or something and maybe that's messing it up. At least, that's all I can thing of anyway.

In one sense I think we got lucky with this one. First, I have not yet bothered to get a program that can actually resize a .gif, let alone an animated .gif.
Also, I'd just figured out that the program I used to make the animation, (which can export animated .gif files), can resize images.
I resized each frame individually, (it wouldn't let me do all of them at once), then I exported another animated .gif. You saw the results.
Whew!
