DragonLady/GreenDena and her two young sons will be visiting Jeffrey555/BlueTopaz, BlueEyed Dragon and myself (Purrrdit/DivingPeggeth) in August.:bouncy: :applause:  Her exalted presence is a great excuse to have a Gather! Actually a one to two day Gather experience. :ok:
Saturday Aug. 20th we will be heading for Hershey Park and Chocolate World to spend the day eating chocolate,:choc: riding the rides,:mexwave: eating chocolate,:choc: hopefully meeting and greeting friends:group: while of course eating and possibly drinking chocolate:choc:. We would love to have you join us there! Did I mention the CHOCOLATE? :choc:
For anyone wanting a more intimate opportunity to meet, greet and get to know fellow KTers/Anne Fans you are invited to a cookout party:party: at our home the afternoon/night before on Friday Aug. 19th. As Blueeyed Dragon (our son) and my mother will both be in Fla. that night, we will have several beds available. We also have an inflatable bed and cot along with several couches and lots of floor space, so anyone wanting to stay over night is welcome! We can have a convoy to Hershey the next morning.
We intend to supply meat and vegetables for make it yourself shish-ka-bobs, corn on the cob, ice tea, sodas etc. Anyone attending is encouraged to bring a covered dish, desert, chips, pretzels or other snack item. You are welcome to BYOB, but be aware that there will be young children and we do not encourage over-indulgence. Weather permitting you will cook your own food over a wood fire. In case of rain, we have a covered porch and grill. Strange creatures have been known to nest in our woods and a firelizard egg hunt:dragon2: is likely to take place.
Now for the bad news; We live about 36.1 miles from Hershey Park and about 22 miles from Harrisburg. Our home is on the side of a small mountain, in the woods in ‘Perry’ county. In other words, we live in the country in the middle of no where, and a long drive from anywhere. BUT we love it!
Please let us know if you would have an interest in this Gather.

Yes, a whole area of kiddie rides plus a nice merry-go-round and people sized walking candy bars. Plus a small zoo that is part of the entrance price.

Unless something comes up with hubby's work -we're coming :bouncy:
We'll probably drive up on Friday as we're not that far from you. We're about 2 hours from Harrisburg, so it shouldn't be more than 3 to get to you (assuming backroads are invoved). How far are you from the Maryland border?
We'll probably get a hotel near Hershey for Friday and Saturday nights.
This is gonna be soooo great!!!

:bouncy: :ok: It's so nice when a plan starts comming togeather!! Can't wait to meet you!
We're north of Carlisle. So if you're comming from Maryland, we are closer than Harrisburg. Up 81, get off at Carlisle- Route 34 and follow it N. About 12 or so miles and only the last 7 or so are 'back country roads'. Actually they are nicely paved and not dirt untill you get to our driveway, so it's not really 'back' 'back country roads'.

It looks like SilverHawk and I won't be able to come. There is a law suit pending against a department store and SilverHawk is a witness. And hopefully by the 19 and 20th we will be on our way moving back to New Mexico.
She and I are both bummed that we won't be able to make it. But as long as all of ya'll have enough fun for us as well, we should be okay.

I shall have to see what my schedule looks like closer to the middle of August. It's not all that far for me (~60 minutes to Hershey), so I'll see if it would be possible to make it there.
No promises, as getting a ride from the middle of Chester County might be a challenge.

I'll be there -- but demand that someone ride roller coasters with me!
As for the cookout, I'll try but Friday is my last day of camp and I work in Mifflinburg -- about half an hour further from your house.
You know, if Dena is staying at your house, you really do need to drive up routes 11/15 and take a picture at the dragon (http://wltstuff.vexingvixen.net/graphics/dragon_5.jpg)!

27th July 2005, 01:48 AM
:bouncy: FallingLlama, I like you already!!!! I have to beg and twist arms with Jeff and my son to get them to ride the roller coasters!
Neat dragon, where is it? I never heard of it before. We will try our best to go see it & get photos if you can send directions.
Dena and her sons arrive tomorrow night at Phil. airport. I pick them up at 10pm:welcome: Then have to drive home. We are not sure of plans yet, but will probably be heading to our 'camp' at Big Bear Camp Ground in WV in the next day or two. Then for a while Dena will be visiting others before returning for the Gather.
In any case, if anyone sends messages, don't worry if it is a week or more before we respond. No computer at camp!

Then you and I will ride roller coasters and everyone else can wave to us!
The dragon is fairly near -- only about 20 minutes from my house, on 11/15 between Clark's Ferry Bridge and Liverpool. If you head up Rt 34 through Newport, when you come to 11/15, turn right (south). It sits between a restaurant and a place that sells and services school buses, and looks like it should be in a miniature golf course.

I just checked the original post in this thread, wondering if the Aug. 19th cookout also involved soy hotdogs.
Is there anything I should bring along with me to cookout? At the moment I'm planning to leave work early (with this much notice I should be able to do it) -- meaning about 4:00 instead of 6:00 -- and should be there. I'm also bringing a Rent-a-Kid (the daughter of a friend, celebrating her 12th birthday on the 23rd, the trip to Hershey and weekend with me my gift to her), assuming that Dena's eldest would probably prefer to ride roller coasters with someone closer to his age, so that they can laugh at us older folks.
Jeffrey, closer to the time I'll need directions to your house. On Saturday I can find my way to Hershey by myself.

We haven't even looked into yet. It's on hubby's list of "things to do". We'll probably end up at a Marriot property of some sort, cuz we have lots of points with them - but any suggestions I can pass onto Mike would definitely be helpful. I was going to check at Costco this week about the tickets - they usually have discount ones, if that falls through I'll let you know and take you up on the discounts you have. :ok:
I am thinking about the possibility of getting a combo Hershey PArk/Dutch Wonderland ticket - I may be going there later in the week with a couple of neighbors.

We had a great time yesterday At Jeffrey555 and Purrdit's place. BlueEyedDragon, GreenDena/DragonLady, Falling Llama and myself were the KT attendees - along with a bunch of family members and other friends. There was a Fire-lizard egg hunt for the kids and a Fire-lizard clutch hunt for the adults. There were giftees for eveyone - I came home with a hat with a dragon on it (okay it's really a teradactyl). Ryan has laid claim to the hat and went for a walk around the neighborhood this morning to show everyone. The other kids around us were very impressed with it :good: . FallingLlama brought some Gloppy stuff for the kids to play with (some of the adults :erm: okay, me played with it to). Lots of yummy foods - we kabobbed all kinds of meats and veggies then had some dessert. Kids ran wild all over the place. We had beautiful weather (well it rained a little in the morning, but by the time we got together the rain had stopped and it was comfortable to stay outside).
DragonLady and I got a kick at how well her youngest and my oldest hit it off! Best indicator of how good a time we had was the first words out of Ryan's mouth this morning were: "can we go back to Jeff's house? I'm not done having fun there." - BTW, he told everyone when he showed them the hat, that he got it from Jeff's house. I have a feeling the words "Jeff's House" are going to be a part of many conversations over the next few days
Today the rest of the group went off to Hershey Park (we couldn't make it :( )
I'm sure I've forgotten something but I really am so glad we did this - and we will need to do it again!!!

Jeffrey bring goodies to D*Con? Doesn't he always? He didn't make bubblies for this Gather (no time), but did bake a delicious apple pie, and added to pineapple upside down cake and Dux's triple chocolate cake, there were definitely plenty of dessert orders of "ALL!"
I wanted to post photos yesterday morning, but had no internet service. The initial photo -- against my better judgment -- is posted: http://groups.msn.com/ClanFiend/gathers2005.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=477
I will post more later, but am still editing, and want to clear the kid photos with Dux and Dena first!
As to HersheyPark: exhausting. . . fun. . . perfect! We'd definitely do it again! I'll post more particulars of that later -- if Jeffrey555, Purrrdit, or Blue-Eyed Dragon don't beat me to it (but don't trust Blue-Eyed Dragon's accounts -- probably not accurate)

BTW, the "Gloppy stuff" is flubber. I had a container of Jeffrey's, figured that he can bake better than I can anyhow, so filled it with my specialty -- and it definitely kept the kids occupied during those final preparations for kabobs.
Donna just informed me that Dena's eldest kept referring to her as "the Fallen Llama." She kept telling him, "no, I'm the other one." In our class, she was often "the other Vickie" and I was "the other Donna," so it's only reasonable for her to be "the other Llama."

 What green-eyed dragon?
Just an update:
Our big "adventure" at Hersheypark was being able to see Jeffrey in action as a firefighter (ok, not fighting fires, but doing firemanly-type duties). After about 11 hours of hiking the hills of the park, Blue-Eyed Dragon, Jeffrey, Purrrdit, and Chenoa were on the bumper cars while Donna and I guarded the luggage (yes, luggage -- some people truly do enter amusement parks prepared for any contingency). As they were exiting the ride, Chenoa started to run toward us, and started crying, with a very bad cramp in her leg. Massage didn't help, so Jeffrey slung her across his back in a fireman's carry (ok, a piggy-back ride) and was her transportation for the remainder of the trip. Oh, yeah -- Purrrdit showed she could do it as well when she escorted Chen to the restroom, and Blue-Eyed Dragon was required to give Dena's youngest a similar ride.
Anyhow, the "cramp' had not abated when we arrived home, and is still bothering her after a long sleep (though she can now almost walk as long as she keeps weight on her heel), so today she's off to the ER to have it checked -- just in case. We'll let everyone know how it goes!

Ok, I talked to Donna, and the doctor's verdict on Chenoa is . . . a severe cramp. Yep. With severe ones, the pain can persist for several days. He feels that it was brought about by heat exhaustion and possibly dehydration. Now she must lay around for several days, staying cool in the air conditioning, and being waited on hand and foot.
Dux, Dena, and Jeffrey/Purrrdit -- I tried to PM and to e-mail, only to be locked out of NKT for several hours. I'm not sure why neither will work for me (though I can usually reply to PMs). At any rate, I have a URL to give you so that you can all view photos and give me the go-ahead to post them. Contact me!

Btw, that is a Dux hat, not a dragon hat.
And I personally thought it looked good on Dux.
The fire lizard egg hunts work better at a real beach but we made do. Even if Purrrdit did keep trying to ruin it with her suggestions. She can run her own egg hunts if she doesn't like how I do it, so there.

Purrrdit, we'll have to go back and do those rides again -- and this time StormRunner really will be our first ride, so that we don't have to wait for an hour (though it was worth it!). Thank you for all of the goodies and for organizing all of this -- and for carrying Chenoa all over the park!
Hmm. . . I really should call and see how she's doing, shouldn't I?

Actually, Ryan hasn't let me get anywhere near the hat. He's still talking about "Jeff's House". We went for a drive today past a wooded area, he immediately piped up from the backseat "this looks like where Jeff's house is. Are we going back there? Can we go back there?"

I think I'll wait till we move to Florida before scheduling another gather and make it pot luck.
But you all saw how easy it is. Only two years of planning and several days of frantic setup. Anyone can host a gather.

How is everyone? Chen? Dux and family? fallinglama?
We miss you guys. Youngest is still talking about the jungle and how much he loved it there. Oldest is talking about Hershy's Park and how he bets he is tall enough to be a twizzler now.
