View Full Version : North Ranges Weyr- Where You Can Have a Real Life, Too!

North Ranges Weyr is a medium sized, moderately active (5-10 posts per day, usually, not enough to drown your mailbox) Alternate 5th Pass PBEM Weyr. We welcome players of all kinds, but we're especially welcoming for those who like to take the initiative in plotting. NRW is run by three BOD-ites who all have real lives to attend to, so we don't have post counts or scheduled times to post. If you do post, you're likely to earn a ranking characters because we like to reward people! We enjoy reading good quality-written characters, too :)
North Ranges Weyr will shortly have two clutches on the sands, as a result of an ill-timed dual flight between Trinath and Dalenath. Who was to know that Trinath was old enough to have to be sent away during Dalenath's first flight? What will happen when these two must share the Hatching Sands? We're looking for candidates, especially males, to Impress the dragonets hatched of these two little darlings (note sarcasm.. *l*) Adoptables are available, but should be played prior to the Hatching to ensure Impression.
The Weyrleader's bronze was injured in the fight between the two queens, so a change in the Weyr Leadership will occur when the Senior Queen rises next. More adult riders are always welcome, especially blue and green male riders.
North Ranges Hold is also actively played in this PBEM. What happens to an 800-person Hold when they are suddenly without even the most rudimentary of plumbing disposal? A torqued off Chef, busy holders, and a population of the Great Unwashed, to say the least. Played Hold and Craft Characters are always welcome, as are fosterlings.
Try North Ranges Weyr! We let you have a real life! :) http://www.geocities.com/northrangesweyr !

Question: What's the posting like?
Round robin? Co-post? Full post? Optional?
Miss Scarrlet

All of the above :) the most popular form is round-robin, though some pairs of people have co-posted with each other, then presented it as a full post to the list.

And then Mir (alettath) and I did one that ended up being SO long, she put it at her website and just posted the link to the list!

Another question: I don't feel that I have the time *now* for a candidate, but can I create a (obviously low/no rank) character and still have the option of being searched later, if I change my mind?
I used to RP a bit (for four years, in fact) but I haven't for a while, and never really on an email type thing like this. I am interested, or else I wouldn't be asking these things. :)

sure, Lady Faizah. Make a servingwoman. Make a Crafter. Make a weyrbrat. Make a Holdbrat. Make a fosterling. :-D We'd take any of 'em, and you can take all the real life you need! :)

Cool! :) We're moving soon (very soon!) and I'll be out of town for a few weeks during the actual move, since we will have to move out of this place before we have a new place to move into, and probably unable to check my email. Although, I might be able to, I'm not sure yet...
Anyway, I guess I should be working on a character sheet. Probably a Weyrbrat, maybe a kitchen boy, or something. It'll be a male, because back when I RPed I noticed a severe shortage of male characters.

That's another of the nice things about NRW - it doesn't seem unevenly balanced in the sexes. I'm just getting up to speed, and have 5 characters on the go now, only one of them female. Two more will be appearing soon, one of each sex.
Mind you, I only have two (barely) middle aged characters, so I guess I'm a little guilty of ageism! Perhaps it's time for a crabby old aunty at the Hold?

Heh...well, I have....Females: Kasi (21), Eliara (22), and Alexya (10). Males: S'vrel (43), R'ven (er..30ish?), V'tine (28, IIRC), Alavid (26), G'mer (60-something). Am I missing anyone?
But we always like male candidates! Especially for brown, blue, and green. And any other characters you care to write, really. Espeically Holders and Crafters.

Mine are mostly in their thirties or younger. My Lord and Lady Holder and one of my green riders (Julrie) are the oldest, in their 40's :)

Off the top of my head you're missing Selora, or doesn't she count as a full character? You're also missing her off your signature. Meant to mention it.
And now I have to go back to my other computer and catch up on the horrendous amount of messages I have there because I have been busy/away/having a life.
I love this Weyr ;)

Kath, supposedly Lord Dorek's mother is still alive and living at the Hold. She'd be plenty old and crabby if you want to pick her up.. *snickers* IIRC, her name is Lady Dorine.

I only have Alexya on the brain because I did a thing with her recently. Selora I haven't played in so long I barely count her! Actually G'mer probably shouldn't, either, and B'rin didn't make either cut as I haven't played him in ages. (I try not to be a color snob but I so am.)

I really want to send in some charas but I wont be able to really post till I get settled at college, am I still allowed?
Anareth
19th August 2005, 01:47 AM
More than allowed! We have a couple members on limited posting because of college. And we don't put a huge amount of pressure on you to post. (Though if you send in a character, we reply asking for revisions, and never hear from you again, we may prod you a bit. And we did have to yank one person's characters--but she came in, took a bunch of adoptables, played for a couple weeks, claimed she was busy/had a new e-mail, and dropped off the planet for weeks...until she started advertising a new Weyr! She didn't reply to a BoD request, we gave her two weeks, and then pulled her from the site. So it takes real effort to get in trouble for not participating!)
Like Sarah said in the subject line, we let you have a real life. College and jobs always come first, and we understand that. Good luck starting school, btw. Just look out--it's so easy to get sucked into being a professional student!

You know - we could use some more 'brats too. I have a 'brat I love playing, and she doesn't have anyone to play with, since Selora and...uh...Marina don't post that often.
And yes, we do NOT poke you for not writing. I *try* to post at least once a day, but sometimes i'm so busy I do it once a week. And that's fine.
So, welcome, when y'all can get your characters created!!!

Been so long you can't even remember Marima's name, huh? LOL... (kidding ya). I wouldn't mind getting her into some more trouble, actually.

I will check my mail tomorrow. I am too afraid to look tonight and WAY too tired to do any replies!
Selora may very likely pop up again when her Dear Old Dad is feeling down, as he's going to be just as soon as Kizmeth rises....but we could use more brats. We could use some boy brats.

Hiya!
I sent a character sheet in yesterday (Brielle) and I haven't heard anything yet. Normally I wouldn't expect to hear back this soon anyhow, but apparently a few of my emails from yesterday went floating out into space never to be seen again . I wanted to double check if that email was received. No rush on approval or anything like that of course, I just wanted to find out if I needed to resend it or not.
Thanks!
