Did anyone buy this one when they saw it on the shelf?

I have to admit I barely bothered looking twice at it since I already had them seperately, and I'm one of those people who will buy a 3rd copy of Dragonsdawn if I see it...
But then again, I've purchased almost all of my paperbacks from secondhand bookshops, and I've only seen this one new, so that automatically puts me off buying it I suppose...

Don't have that particular copy, but I do have "The Ireta Adventure" in hardback, same thing, different title ;)

Interesting, I was talking to Pat, and she said she's never seen the one with the cover I mentioned, and she wonders if it's a UK cover - do you know? Is the one you have the American version?

I've seen this one in stores, but I already had the books separately so I didn't bother. http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0345467213.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

I'd presume the one you listed is the UK cover, but as I don't have that in my collection, I can't say for sure.
Delrey have also re-released the book as "the Mystery of Ireta"

I bought this one when I was in Denmark in the middle of August. I already had Dinosaur Planet, but I was returning a hard cover I had gotten as a birthday present and had to buy something, so I ended up buying this Ireta omnibus and three Terry Pratchett books.
I hadn't actually read read Dinosaur Planet, even though it has been standing on my bookshelf for years. I started reading it the other day, but have only read a couple of chapters yet - so far I am not very impressed :erm:, but I'm giving it a chance to get better.

Have finished reading it now. I find the first half of the first book confusing (i.e. who is who) and a bit boring, but the other half of the first book is quite good. The second book (Survivors) is better than the first, but I guess there has to be some trouble before a book is really good - no fun reading about stuff where everybody is happy and things are going smoothly .

Hmm, I'd have to disagree with Survivors being better... I liked both of them, they were ok, but I was very disapointed with the ending of Survivors. The start was great, and I thought we were really in for some suspense and action, then all of a sudden Sassinak comes down in a big ship and for me, things fizzled out after that. I know that the story lines are connected, but it was SO anticlimactic :( The only redeeming feature was the Thek cathedral and finding out the mystery of the Theks and Ireta, which still wasn't a mind-blowing twist, I saw it coming  Still need to read Generation Warriors, maybe that will take away the bitter taste.

Hmmm, I can't really rememeber specifics, just generalities, but I know I liked the storyline. The first parts of the book don't have anything to do with the planet pirates series do they, except that Lunzie is there? Geez, I really can't remember

Yup, you got it right. The first half is mostly featuring Varian and Kai, and them discovering that the next generations of the Heavyworlders have made a landing grid and are planning to claim rights of ownership of Ireta.

It's complicated...
Death of Sleep: Lunzie goes through numerous cold sleeps, ending with the one on Ireta.

Dinosaur Planet: expands on the last few chapters of Death of Sleep, mostly from Kai and Varian's POV.

Sassinak: Lunzie's great-great-great-ever-so-great grand-whatever is a kid on a colony planet, then pirates attack the colony and she is made a slave, then she is rescued and joins fleet, and is captain of a ship, chasing pirates, who happen to be headed for Ireta, which her ancestress happens to be cold-sleeping on.

Dinosaur Planet Survivors: Kai and Varian wake up, discover the heavyworlders have multiplied and sent for reinforcements, and then the Big Ship comes with Sassinak.

Generation Warriors - trying to get various witnesses back to the big trial - only a lot more complicated than that.

Sassinak and Generation Warriors show Elizabeth Moon's style a great deal.

That's a great summary of the series, Brenda. I can never remember what order they go in. That helps a lot. :ok:

The one you listed is the UK omnibus. I've got details (with cover pics) of all the omnibus editions I've heard of here: http://mccaffrey.srellim.org/series/dpp-biblio.htm#omnibus
