I hate DUMB day traders who don't know how to play the game! For Harry's share value to be going down, people have to be selling their shares. Who in their right mind would sell a share that will get you a £10 divvie in a few days? Either the BBC are calculating things wrong, or there are an awful lot of stupid people playing without understanding how stocks and shares work!

Daytrader - someone you just buys into the highest rising shares on any one day then sells for a quick profit. Divvy Trader someone who holds on to shares with large coverage in papers despite the reaction of the daily floor trading. Day Traders can confuse the Daq in the short term and cause problems to long term traders.

Remeber shares can fall as well as rise but there will always be a divvy. (the lower the price compared to the divvy potential the greater the share of cash on a Friday.

Well, I'd say your best bet is to aim for a mixture of the two....and if everybody was watching what they were doing, there shouldn't be the huge gulf between share value and divvie value.

The share value is determined by the number of people buying and selling the shares. If lots of people want to buy, the value goes up; if people are selling then the value goes down.

The dividend for a share is determined by the number of column inches that celebrity gets in the British press each week. Details of how this is worked out are given in the Celebdaq FAQ, but basically, the more press a star gets, the better the divvie.

Now...you'd think that if a celebrity was in line for a decent divvie, people would be buying the shares and the share value should increase. True, this is complicated by the fact that how much of the total divvie you get is determined by how long you've held the shares but, within reason, you'd think the shares with the best divvies should also be the ones people trade (or at least hold onto).

Alas, it doesn't seem to work this way. The day to day share values seem to be getting more and more volatile and, even stranger, people with excellent divvie prospects (you can see the proposed divvie on the star's profile BTW) seem to start losing money on Monday each week. Prince Harry is an excellent example this week. It's been obvious since the last divvies that Harry would have an excellent dividend this week, yet people seemed to start selling at the end of the weekend, driving his share value down.

Just did a quick check of share prices on a certain couple. It seems the day traders maybe trying to take the market again. When will they learn to stick with the divvies, a small profit over the day is well and good but the real money is in speculating in the long term and gaining divvies.

If you find them I'll shoot them, I'm deadly from 25 metres. I stuck with my choices and currently they are all in credit however, it looks like a couple are now dropping. Traders are getting back into certain shares post the Op, however, others are now suffering the Day trader effect. :irked:

Attraio it only takes a few minutes a day to check your shares and their Divvy potential, and although it's not real money we have fun.

All my shares are in the black although a coulpe seem to be dropping. It's divvy day tomorrow so the falling share prices shouldn't affect my portfolio too much, however, I guess I will have to do some trading tomorrow to sort out next week's share potential. If I was you I would take the kneecap look what trying to aviod it has done to poor Bobbsy. From top to 10th in a week without a kneecap and lost over 500 thou. For anybody else who's been as frustrated as me at the volatile day trading situation, I suspect we've all missed an important announcement!

Have a look at THIS! (http://www.bbc.co.uk/celebdaq/20050225shs.shtml)

Basically, you no longer have to hold shares for the full week to get the full divvie. Instead you get the full divvie value on Friday morning for any shares you've held since close of play on the Monday...reduced proportionately for things you hold for less time.

This goes a long way to explaining the strange trading behviour over weekends.

Personally, I think this is a very stupid rule change...I think it takes most of the skill and interest out of the game, but hey, maybe that's just me.

Smaller amounts mean bigger % increases as there is less to increase. Top of the shop with a good divvy predicted.
