View Full Version : Poetry from a tired mind at 5 am

I'm not responsible for any of these making sense or if they don't seem like 'normal' poetry. I couldn't sleep this morning so thought I'd try to write something!

Here goes!

The sweet night's gentle kiss
A whisper on the breeze
In the dark hours of the morning
A song flows from window to darkened window

Calling
Searching

In the dark hours of the morning
I sit awake and watch a candle flicker
The breeze through the open window brings wordless voices
A whisper in the night
The song of the restless and weary of heart

For all the calling
For all its searching
It has found me
And plays its song to my tired mind
A lullaby and sweet goodnight
A serenade of dreams

Yet now as it sings to me
I feel the world slip away
Fall
Darken
And in the last moments of conscious thought
It leaves me to fall
To dream
For who else is dreamless
Who else does sleep elude
Only the song in the night will know.

And the second one I wrote at an insane time to still be awake. :D

In a moonlit graveyard
I walk among the overgrown headstones of people passed
and wonder
"Will I be forgotten?"

Through a shadowed wood
I see a run-down house
Old and decayed and ask
"Will time ravage me so?"

Across the star strewn sky
A fleeting arc of light disappears over the horizon
and I think
"Is life so fleeting as a comet crossing the heavens?"

What is it for but a bookmark in time?
A dog-eared page in the annals of history?
A smear upon the granite slate that is the universe...

We are but one life
One soul
One mind in the whirlwind of the past and the uncertainty of the future
And in the end we will all be forgotten
Time will ravage our bodies
And life will remain as fleeting as a comet crossing the heaves.
