For the ones that weren't fortunate enough to make it to D*C this year, could we possibly have a summation of the events there? Maybe some juicy tidbits on what Anne said? :D

I think she said B*gg*r or something like it, after crashing into and knocking over some furniture ... ;)

Bronze, are you a member at Pernese Friends? There's an excellent picture of her in her scooter over there.

Call it luck, call it fortunate coincidence or call it being in the right place at the right time...but I was priveledged to be part of the 'Anne Guard' on Friday at D*C. From my experience, I can promise you that our dear AMC is 'hell on wheels' in her scooter. :D

After a couple of panels, it was decided that a shopping trip to the Dealer's Room was next on the agenda. Anyone who has ever been to a con can tell you, that the Dealer's Room is the busiest madhouse at any con. Now add in one crazy lady on a motorized scooter with her entourage of devoted fans to the mix.

Koolness, Skyhook and Mastatek led the way, shouting "Make a hole...Make it wide"...three very intimidating males on a mission. Anne's assistant Leah and the rest of us trailed along behind, alert for sudden stops and trying to ensure that no one was run over too terribly.

We had stopped to visit with the artist Rowena, when someone reminded Anne that 'Selmak/Jacob Carter' (aka Carmen Argenziano) of Stargate SG-1 was in the Dealer's Room signing autographs. As it turns out, Anne is a devoted SG-1 fan, so we immediately set off to find him. In the rush and confusion, Anne hit reverse on the scooter and guess who was directly behind her? You guessed it....ME...and my poor toes were victims of the enthusiam of our departure.

But sore toes aside, this was one of the high-lights of the con for me and I'll never forget the experience. I can't wait for next year. :D

I shot almost 2 hours of video at D*C, which will be available for download once Sran gets the tapes & does his stuff with them. If you ask nicely he might even put it on DVD for you (he can do it in NTSC for peeps across the pond).

A couple of things Anne told us (which I think are on the video) are that she's working on more Acorna books (Acorna's Children: First Warning is now out in the US), & more Petaybee books, and also that a new movie deal is being worked on. She didn't say who the director was, but apparently he's an oscar-winner, and more importantly he has read the books!

Other than that, she was telling us about what she'd been doing in the US prior to D*C (such as visiting the museum of SF in Seattle), & said what a great honour it was to have been made a Grand Master of the SFWA.

Not sure if she ran anyone's feet over this year (though I wouldn't be surprised), but I did hear that she knocked a table full of food over! Skyhook was doing his usual good job of clearing people out of her way "Make a hole, make it wide!", & generally people don't argue with him!

She & Todd did a reading of chapter 1 & part (if not all) of chatper 2 of Dragonsfire on the last day, but to be honest the PA wasn't really loud enough & there was a lot of noise coming from the Serenity panel in the next room, so it was quite hard to make out a lot of what they were saying :(

In other news, Skyhook & Shirley (aka Shoil or Lady Tira) had their joining ceremony on Thursday night, there are pics on my site & Kool's. A good time was had by all, especially when the chocolate fountain arrived! Aranel's work was much in evidence that night, with Sky's shirt & Shoil's dress being made by Ara, as well as her own outfit, Kool's, mine (Aragorn) and several others, including the cloaks that both LL & BM were wearing.

On Saturday night there was the costume contest in the Pern room, MCed by Jody Lynn Nye as usual, and of course Kool dipped her again (H has a pic of that). He didn't win this year though, but he came second. The winners of both the men's & women's contest were dressed as dragonriders (go as a dragonrider & you're bound to win!). I went in as a Lord Holder, LL as a brawn, & BM as a Makahomian Temple Cat. Again there are pics on Kool's & H's sites, and I videoed the second half (women's). Unfortunately, due to having to dash back to the hotel room to change & grab my camcorder (& having to wait ages for a lift/elevator both going & coming back), I didn't have time to set the camcorder up before I had to take part in the contest myself, so I had to do it after the men's contest was over (last year the women went first), so I didn't get Kool dipping Jody :(

The game of the con this year was "Are you a werewolf?", which was played all over the hotels, you could find groups playing it almost anywhere you looked! The Pern room was no exception, & we often stayed in there until 3-3.30am playing it with Todd, Angel, Sisca & co. (again, H has a pic of one such session). Todd was moderator in the first few games we played, & introduced more of a story into it than some other groups had (a trait carried over by the others from our group who moderated). For some reason Angel was always the Madame of the village bordello (LL & BM were two of her girls), & was quite often a werewolf (I think 4 times in a row one night!). Things tended to get very silly very quickly, like the game where Gigi (Anne's daughter, a lovely person, & not just because she's very attractive either ;) ) was a baby & did all her nominations & comments in baby talk (she was a mute in the next game...)

Anyway, this post is getting too long, so more later (when I think of it!), but one thing I will say (which Kool mentioned in PF) was the feeling, when we walked into the lobby of the Marriott on Wednesday afternoon, that we'd never been away, & this was even before we'd met anyone else!

OK, not exactly news, but a few comments/thoughts/feelings about the con.

As mentioned in the last post, the feeling that we'd never been away as soon as we arrived at the hotel.

Hearing someone call my name about an hour later, looking round & seeing Kool (who'd gone looking for us), & then meeting up with him, Ara, Kat, JJ & Cilla for a meal (later joined by Lady Cin, who was sharing our room).

Meeting Shoil for the first time, having known her here for over 4 years.

Likewise for msgoofy (I was the first person she met in KTL).

Meeting Maedhbh too, though I haven't known her for anything like as long.

Seeing Maedhbh's outfit on Saturday night!

Meeting Faren & Keio

LL in a corset :D (she got LOTS of apperciative comments, & not just from guys!)

Are you a werewolf? (aka fun with Todd & co.)

Maria & the others in HQ at the Hyatt, who were so nice to us

Alejandro in the Atrium Express at the Marriott, who was so stunned by LL's T-shirt on Thursday morning that he entered $200 in the till when she gave him a $20 bill, & was going to give her $195 change until he realised what he'd done! He also gave us breakfast on the house one morning (Tuesday I think) because we'd been there every morning!

The con atmosphere, you have to experience it to understand.

The one bad point - the fire marshals being ultra-zealous on Saturday & Sunday nights & annoying everyone, hopefully something will be done about that next year.

Oh, another bad point, saying goodbye to everyone (Ara was getting weepy when we said goodbye to her, Kool, Maedhbh & the others on Monday night (they were leaving, not us)), & not getting to say goodbye to some peeps (Kat, Faren, & msgoofy for example)

I cannot believe that silly outfit rated a comment all of it's own. Ian! :p

What to say? It was better than any dream I'd have of it. I got picked up by Kool & Aranel at the airport. How wonderful is that? :D It took a lot of stress out of it. I get lost every single time I go to a new place. <sighs> Let's see, how to make a short list of the fun. Being in a (beauty) costume contest judged by (a very drunk) hottie Connor Trinneer. Finding out that it's not true that all girl's in a (beauty) costume contest are mean - they were great. Getting to watch Sky & Shirley's wedding. Getting hit on by a very cute (unfortunately married & drunk) Han Solo. Getting to hear almost the first two chapters of a new Pern book read by Miss Anne & Todd before their publisher ever got to see it. :D And laughing a ton when she stopped three times to make corrections. Watching a HUGE room full of people doing the Time Warp dance. Going to an Emerald Rose concert & trying desperately not to fall asleep in my chair in spite of loving their music (first time I'd ever even heard of them, let alone hear them play). Getting to sit & listen to Marina Sirtis & Lavar Burton making fun of Patrick Stewart. I'll add more later as I think of them. :)

Oh wow. Reading Ian's posts makes me miss everyone all over again.
I actually wrote all about my D*C experience in my blog. http://www.wolfegar.com/index.php?ind=blog&op=home&idu=11
Check out September 7th and 8th for my experiences. And Ian, I intended to have time to say goodbye to everyone on Monday. Unfortunately, I looked at the weather and had a panic attack (what ended up being Hurricane Ophelia was right off the coast from me). I called the airlines and we took an earlier flight home, so I missed the end. But it was WONDERFUL to meet you all, and I only wish I'd known about Todd's Werewolf game. Keio, Scavy and I did have a great time playing with the other gamers though, and it was nice to meet some new folks.

One thing I will add, I though Anne looked great. Tired, but she's still got it. It was worth the price of admission to hear her do her kitty imitation when Priscilla gave her the hellcat ears. Mrrroowwwww.:cat:
