I'm getting ready to read Planet Pirates/Dinosaur Planet
and trying to figure out the chronological order these books.
So far, I have them:
Sassinak
The Death of Sleep
Generation Warriors
Dinosaur Planet
Dinosaur Planet Survivors
Is that right?

McClance, Brenda posted a good list in the Dino Planet Omnibus thread...
Death of Sleep
Dinosaur Planet
Sassinak
Dinosaur Planet Survivors
Generation Warriors
She had descriptions from each of the books, but I was afraid it would be too much of a spoiler, so I took it out. Hope it helps. :)

They kind of overlap a bit too.

Yup, the last part of Death of Sleep overlaps Dinosaur Planet, and same with Sassinak and Dinosaur Planet.

There is a lot of overlap, making it hard to decide the order to read them. I actually took notes on the timeline and made a graphic out of it (http://mccaffrey.srellim.org/series/dpp-intro.htm).
Despite the chronological order of the books, I'd recommend starting with the Dino Planet books and then the Planet Pirate ones:
1.Dinosaur Planet
2.Dinosaur Planet Survivors
3.The Death of Sleep
4.Sassinak
5.Generation Warriors

I decided to go with The Death of Sleep first.
Thanks for the help, everyone! :ok:

I've got copies of Death of Sleep and Dinosaur Planet Survivors and while Kylie was in hospital, thought I'd give them a go. I was quite surprised to see Lunzie again in Survivors and now have to go and find the rest of the books.
*I'm one of those horrible people who can pick up a book mid series and not have it spoil the story for me*

I just recently reread the series (well, am up to Generation warriors) started from Dino planet 1, then 2, then Sassinak, Death of Sleep and now Generation Warriors. Like Carmie, it doesn't seem to matter now where I start for this series at least.
Personally though, I think that the order in which I read them ^ is the best way to do it. :)

I'm going to quote the post I made in the other thread. I'll put spoilers in white, but the descriptions are just one-liners that you might see on the front of the book.
It's complicated...
Death of Sleep: Lunzie goes through numerous cold sleeps, ending with the one on Ireta.
Dinosaur Planet: expands on the last few chapters of Death of Sleep, mostly from Kai and Varian's POV.
Sassinak: Lunzie's great-great-great-ever-so-great grand-whatever is a kid on a colony planet, then pirates attack the colony and she is made a slave, then she is rescued and joins fleet, and is captain of a ship, chasing pirates, who happen to be headed for Ireta, which her ancestress happens to be cold-sleeping on.
Dinosaur Planet Survivors: Kai and Varian wake up, discover the heavyworlders have multiplied and sent for reinforcements, and then the Big Ship comes with Sassinak.
Generation Warriors - trying to get various witnesses back to the big trial - only a lot more complicated than that.
Sassinak and Generation Warriors show Elizabeth Moon's style a great deal.

Thanks for that Brenda. Now I can see how it all fits and I'm looking forward to getting the rest of the series.
