View Full Version : So, Anyway. I was thinking. . .

Yeah, I know "with what brain?!" Actually, I went out to supper tonight at Friendly's with my daughter and her boyfriend because we had no electricity when I got home for work (obviously it's back on now). While we were eating I was telling them about the Youth Centre and how I'm the Queen of the Wild Things and how this really is my favorite part of the site. They know a fair amount about my hosting because I talk about it quite a bit, and my daughter has been to Dragon*Con so they're interested in SciFi as well. Anyway, after I was thinking I'd like to do something fun for the Youth this Christmas. I have a little dragon beanie baby (Legend) and a couple dragons hatching from eggs that I got at D*C and I was thinking about having a drawing for them early in December as Christmas presents for 3 lucky "youth" (presents from me). But, I need to come up with a cut off age that you all think is fair? Lets' figure that out first (ultimately I'll decide, but I'm willing to be "persuaded") and then everyone who's in that age group can add their name to my list and UN-Santa will pick out names from a hat and they'll be on their way in time for Christmas! Sound okay? :D

Sounds great! I'm not gonna participate (keeping my address private till I'm 18) but I suggest 20 for the cut-off.

Not fair! I wanna be in it and I'll be 20 in like 3.12 days. I say 25. That'll give all us big kids a chance too. But then it's not fair for those over 25...but then again, this is a YOUTH forum. I've always figgered my "youth" will cut off when I'm 25.

20 being the cut off age would include 20 year olds. :p

I's say 20 is a fair age... but what about those who are young at heart? ;)

I won't be participating either, as I don't celebrate Christmas, but good luck to those who are! :D

I would say 15 or 16 would be a cut off age for "youth". Although 17 isn't considered "of age" yet, (here in the U.S. anyway), 18 is considered Adult or "of age", and that to me means, no longer "youth".

Jus to add my :2cent: .......

I can get a Youth Travel Card up until the age of 26 here.....

Well. I told you I wasn't necessarily "thinking!" I should have included that this doesn't have to be JUST a Christmas gift, it can be a Hannukah, end of year, I don't celebrate anything gift as well. I apologize, I guess this old brain hasn't quite become accustomed to being politically correct yet. I still wish everyone Merry Christmas! :erm: So, How about a drawing for a Christmas/Non-Christmas present?! And, so far I like the 25 and under idea! ;)

*grins* Well, while I have a few opinions on this. I will point out that in the US car insurance doesn't go down til 25...and under 25 you have to pay daily FEES with most rental companies to rent a car! (Last year we couldn't put me as a primary driver on a car rental cause they'd charge us an extra $15 a DAY).

So while I personally think that 'young at heart' doesn't have a limit and 'youth' can't really be defined by numbers, somewhere between 20-25 seems fair to me.

Well, since it's my idea and my stuff I'm making an "executive" decision. The cut off age will be 25 for "youth". So, if you're interested you can put your name here, I'll start a list in the first post of this thread, and hold a drawing on the first of Dec. :ok:

Having just seen this thread! I think it's a great idea Cilla! :hugs: Perhaps there doesn't need to be a cutoff age...

But instead of it being for I should have included that this doesn't have to be JUST a Christmas gift, it can be a Hannukah, end of year, I don't celebrate anything gift as well. I apologize, I guess this old brain hasn't quite become accustomed to being politically correct yet. I still wish everyone Merry Christmas! :erm: So, How about a drawing for a Christmas/Non-Christmas present?! How about in November as a celebration of our NKT's first anniversary?

Hmmmmm. Ummmm. I think it's a great idea having a drawing for some anniversary gifts, but I'd sort of like to keep this little drawing just for the youth! :D

I think you're being ageist :D :D :D

The young already have huge advantages, why should they get priority draws too? ;)

Envy is a powerful emotion, y'know ;)

Me, greedy? Never ;) I'm just being empathetic with my beanie baby dragon who has caught the maternal longing and desperately wants to lay eggs :D Alas, nothing I can say will convince her otherwise :(

For those of you who are younger and nervous about giving out addresses or getting parental permission, perhaps the prize could be sent to a parent's business address with "nickname" c/o Mommy/Daddy @ hardwork, 0000 nothing avenue, nothing, nothing state, nothing country?

I had my daughter pick out one name, her boyfriend pick the second and his brother pick the third. The first one gets the beanie baby dragon, the other two get the dragon's hatching from eggs.
