Since the old KT thread about this has gone, I thought I would start a new one.
The 63rd WorldCon will be taking place at the SECC in Glasgow on 4-8 August 2005. See http://www.interaction.worldcon.org.uk/ for details.
Lanen and I have signed up (last year before the price went up!). Who else is going? It would be good to meet up with other KT'ers at some point.
Steven.
P.S. There is some discussion about this in the "UK Gather" thread as well.

Although I *mutters* suggested it, I'm afraid I cannot commit to this for a while yet, if ever. It's simply too expensive, and I have no idea what my finances will be like by that time of year.

I'd like to go, but I'm only 17.
Give me 3-4 more years, maybe...

The reason it's being discussed in the UK Gather thread is that the original idea was to hold this year's UK Gather on the fringes of WorldCon (note, NOT GenCon as a couple of peeps have called it in the gather thread). This was before we found out that WorldCon costs roughly 3 times as much as Dragon*Con to register for! Considering the (so far) very small guest list (not to mention the pretty amateurish-looking website), £110 is really too much, not many people are going to be willing to pay that amount, plus travel & hotel costs on top, without a much more enticing line-up.

£110 is a LOT of money for me!

Even for those of us in full time employment and earning a decent salary, £110 is a lot of money!
I'm not particularly bothered about attending this 'con' personally. I would consider Dragon*con in the US but I've not seen anything with the same allure in this country.
Perosnally, I'd prefer a gather than a con.

110 pounds is far to expensive that's nearly most people's weekly pay. I think I will be giving it a miss.

*clears throat* ;)
The idea was not to insist that people attend WorldCon per se, I agree that it's very expensive :( However, given that Anne will be attending, it seemed the obvious location for us to have the 2005 UK Gather so she can join us - which doesn't mean that participants need to pay to attend WorldCon, just that they be in Glasgow at the same time so we can organise something in the margins :D

Oh dear, not much interest in this year's WorldCON  It's a pity the organisers have to charge such a hefty entrance fee. Luckily for me, at least, the fee is offset by the cheaper travel costs of the event happening in Southern Scotland.
But, as Anneli says, there's nothing to stop us meeting up outside the event, if anyone is in Glasgow at the time.
Over to the "UK Gather" thread...

To ask if anyone else is going to World Con. Its only 6 weeks away
I would love to meet any NKTLers there, as I should be there for the whole event.
